Those tuners were made by Ping Works (PW) , they are not Grovers. The tailpiece also said PW on it, so also Ping Works.
I don't know if the tuners were changed out on that Melody Maker or not, if they really were originally Grovers then they have been changed out for the cheaper PW ones.

It is Joans sound for sure. But one correction, she tended to play Les Pauls in the Runaways. Look around the Runaways youtube vids such as ruclips.net/video/tcCPNHIwRK8/видео.html . Also the guitar came with stickers that she had on her guitar. It looks like someone had put some of them on and took them off again.

Pat Travers used one, until it was stolen. He is a guitar badass. I have two Melody Maker Vs. They are both first year of issue. They have Seymour Duncan pickups. Guitar Center wanted list, so I bought them on line for a lot less! I hate G.C. and will not do business with them.

I've had both, and I actually prefer my '65 Melody Maker with humbuckers swapped in over any SG I've ever played.

Trust me, the tuner wear thing is possible: before i sobstituted the old tuners on my strat, that things were almost black, so... anyways, good video as usual

Regarding a new Melody Maker in 2020, it existed but was having an identity crisis. Epiphone made a new starter guitar called the SL, which is a Les Paul (slightly smaller than a normal one, like the Special 2, GT, etc.) with 2 single coil pickups and available in a lot of colors. It was renamed in 2021 as the Melody Maker. Maybe the identity crisis started in 2021 lol

I was going to buy one of these a few years ago, but it got sold online as I was driving to the store to try it out. Now they cost almost double what they were then.

I do prefer this shape over the fish. I like the more 'standard' over all but this one does interest me a bit.

Isnt the tiny headstock just the normal one without the wings?

Love your channel but I take issue with calling original Melody Maker pickups "garbage." They're more Fender-ish than Gibson-sounding, but they actually sound great paired with a Princeton Reverb. Oh, and roll the tone back too :)

I bought one from Sweetwater in 2009 while I was in Iraq. I had it shipped to my home and I think it has only been out of the case twice. I don’t think I have ever even plugged it in and played it. I just thought it was cool at the time. It has been in climate controlled storage for a couple years now back where I used to live, with several of my other guitars waiting for me to finally move all my stuff to where I live now.

I bought mine in 2009 for $777.00 CAD. Which IS, like $112.00 USD, ahahahaha. I have the 2009 single cut worn white Melody Maker as well.
They both outperform my custom shop ES 339.
