I was precisely looking into this guitar since seagull guitars are very expensive in Mexico but your opinion on the tone difference made me want to keep on saving so I invest in a better sounding instrument. Even though I hear this is very good I just fell in love with the S6
It's a very good guitar for all around music. You'll never believe the quality your get for your money. Now it's one of my favorite guitars. Strongly recommended.
Burhan Chaudhry Hi, sorry for the late reply. Beside the easthtetic difference (white binding surrounding the fingerboard and the headstock on the 830 not on the 800 and only around the fingerboard on the 820) the main difference is in the woods the back and sides are made of. The 800 features features nato or eastern mahogany back and sides, the 820 mahogany back and sides and in the case of the 830 the back and sides are made of rosewood. By the way rosewood is darker than mahogany easthetically speaking. All three models feature a solid spruce top. Most of the guitar's tone is driven by its top. As for which is best suited for you as a beginner IMHO all of these guitars will fit the bill. You won't gain or loose much by choosing one over the other. If you have the chance to try them or let another person play them for you in the music store it would be the best thing to do. This way you can decide which one is best for you. I personally like the 820 over the 830. I'll post a review of it this weekend so you can compare both guitars. But again it's my personal opinion. Hope that this would help you a bit :)
Well honestly for the 830 it will sound a lot brighter and boomy. Because of the solid rosewood back and sides. Rosewood is the most desirable woods in guitars. Look at all of the expensive Martin Guitars, you’ll see that all of them are made out out East Indian rosewood
Hello there, Sir! That's a very sweet ownership review... and loved the way you take pride in handling/playing your cherished possession. :) I am a beginner/novice to the acoustic guitar, in the process of acquiring one and beginning to learn. The initial suggestions for me were the Yamaha F340, while a few also mentioned the FG-800 if I could tad stretch my budget. After an "extensive and exhaustive" search for videos and resources on the web, I stumbled upon the FG-830. It's rave reviews, emphatic recommendations and having bagged awards galore... drifted me to seal my decision on this make. I am "absolutely-sold on buying" (oxymoron intentional!) one soon. My purchase may be an "overkill" from a beginner's investment-perspective, but what-the-heck... this one is for keeps, and a lifetime! ;) Thank you so much, for your short but impactful review, that further influenced my decision! Wishing you "many countless hours of joyous strumming" with this fine instrument! :) P.S.: - Please let me know the brand/make of your hardcase featured in the video. Looks like a perfect fit for the FG-830. I am from India, and I hope to find one here to accompany mine... :) Thanks a bunch!
Hi, I'm glad you liked the video and thanks for subscribing. The FG800 is actually a great guitar. The hardshell case I'm showing is the Yamaha CGC/4 BL.
Whats the difference between FS830 and FG830. Will FS sound be any less just because its smaller? From the specs its just a smaller scale length and body depth. I'm intending to get a 830 just need some advice on the body size. Scale Lenght: 650 mm (FG) -> 634mm (FS) Body Depth: 100-118mm (FG) ->90-110mm (FS) whats your take?
Hi, I have never had experience with an FS body but I guess that the difference in sound wouldn't be huge compared to the extra comfort someone small would get from playing the smaller guitar. If you're somehow comfortable with the bigger sized guitars than I think you should go with the FG830 to gain that little difference in projection and volume otherwise the FS830 would be a great option for you. Just remember that if you're not comfortable with the FG size, your playing and the overall tone you'll get from the guitar will suffer too anyways. I hope I didn't add to the confusion and was helpful in a way :))
These are out standing sounding acoustic guitars. I have one .the only small down side I'd say is they should have used a bone nut and bone saddle or are least bone saddle instead of plastic urea I've got bone saddle to change to and bone pins Either way brilliant guitar sound is extremely close to a very expensive martin or gibson
All of the FG’s are amazing and beautiful! Love this guitar
I just ordered mine too. Hope to get it soon!
Perfect! Enjoy!
:))
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, and your playing skills are so good 😊
Is this guitar heavier compared to the other 800s? Since the back and sides are rosewood?

Hope you got both now as Seagulls are a few hundred bucks used usually.
How about fgta ?

Rosewood is better than nato or mahogany
That's the one!
Nobody mentions just how wonderfully thin the finish is on these.
I have the same guitar its very good solid wood top
Nice job with the review!
