Is Affinity Photo any good for painting?

I use Affinity Photo a lot for photo editing although I've only used it once before for digital painting and that was well over a year ago. At that time I wasn't very impressed, so I thought I would give it another try.

This is great, I'm huge for Affinity Photo on both desktop and ipad. There are very few videos on people using it for digital art. I'm glad to see its useful in that area.

Hi Erik, I’m a huge fan too. I use for all my photo editing. It has got better as a drawing/painting tool, but still not quite there yet.

AP for ipad is also very good. As for brushes you can also import photoshop brushes.

Hi Danielle. I’ve had a quick go with the iPad version and found it a bit clunky. I think it was down to the brush I was using though. I’ll have to investigate some photoshop brushes

I've been using all my Photoshop brushes from Aaron Blaise, who has a lot of great nature brushes. I also like the brushes available on the Affinity website. I got the nature brushes for $5. Any brush pack you get from Affinity will download to the program automatically so I don't have to import them in anymore.

I was surprised about Affinity Photo's brushes as well, really nice textures. I keep going back to Krita for painting though at the moment. Nice videos btw :-)

Hi Steve, I'm watching because I've just splashed out (£23.99) on AP (bargain) in their half price sale and I do like to do a spot of digital painting and have created some pretty decent artwork, although I usually use Clip Studio. You asked about adding brush packs, I'm pretty sure you can add the DAUB brush pack to Affinity Photo - they are a great deal too. I might have a go at painting in this software later and will share the results and my thoughts!

I found AP better when I purchased the Daub Essentials and Daub Pigmento brushes (Around £10 each set - a real bargain) They are much more realistic than the stock brushes.

Hey I'm looking for a windows drawing software which I could use to draw my digital art but I wanted one which could have a one time payment so far affinity designer and affinity photo is my main choice are there any others you can recommend?

Hi Shark, yes!! Krita is free add the digital atelier brushes for about £20 and you have an excellent package. Rebelle 5 has just been released, around £80 in my opinion the best on the market. I have a review coming out later today. Hope this helps 👍
