after watching summoning salts video on the world record, i looked up a tutorial just to see that the SINISTER1 himself is teaching us, absolutely amazing.
3 PUNCH KO GLASS JOE 42.00… WAIT 40 seconds, when Joe backs up all the way, 2 Right Gut Punches, 1 Left Gut…ONLY 3 punches and a perfect 42.00 every time
Just for anyone experiencing the same problem as me, sometimes the star punch in the last phase of Von Kaisers won't knock him down, I recommended do a quick left gut punch to finish him.
Had to replay the Von Kaiser part a couple of times to see exactly why it's necessary to get the buffer'd gutter on him. I guess it prevents him throwing Zee Uppercut and makes him go straight to jabs.
At 1:06:15 you begin to talk about the count and the hit points your opponent will get after getting up. If you notice just above the energy bar you will see 6 tick marks. The increments between each tick mark are not exact so I have had to approximate. 1. 8-10 2. 21-24 3. 37-40 4. 52-55 5. 70-74 6. 87
You can get the Lua script used to show the damage here: github.com/Kolpa/FF1Bot/blob/master/emulator/luaScripts/PunchOutStats.lua. Just save it and open in FCEUX emulator.
I have to say, I love this tutorial, but it would be very helpful if you would have the game volume up a little higher, because I'm totally blind, so I listen for timing things via music and other things. Also, some blindfold strats would be great. I can make it to Tyson, and I have beaten him in the past, but it's so, so luck based for the first minute and 30 of the first round. Trying to avoid every hit in that time is almost impossible blind, unless you've got some sort of strategy for knowing when he's gonna throw his punches. I loved this game as a kid, and I watched someone named Summoning Salt before I watched this, and he was hitting fighters so much more than I thought was possible. Learning those new strategies would be so awesome! He didn't explain what he was doing unfortunately, and since I can't see, I had no clue how he was managing to do it. I was able to discover a similar alternative strategy for great tiger. After throwing the first left face punch, make little mac quick dodge to the left twice without buffering though. Just use the tapping technique. And then proceed with the right gut punch (buffered) as usual. The timing should work if you don't buffer. :-D If you delay the first quick dodge slightly, you may be able to buffer the second quick dodge though. And then buffer the right gut punch as usual.

I know this comment is a billion years old, but for those who are still struggling, basically all you need to do is do two uppercuts, and one (blocked) gut punch over and over until you reach 14 hearts. As soon as the stamina says 14, you do three uppercuts instead of two (the third uppercut should NOT hit him), and then while Joe is in the back throwing his fists, you do B, A, A, B. The uppercuts and gut punches must be one after another, no time wasted, so you need to buffer as soon as you throw every single punch. The B, A, A, B timing also needs to be precise, but as long as those are also thrown one after another, and you don't wait in-between punches, you should be alright. If you get the timing wrong, he will always come up after one second. If at least two seconds pass without him getting up, you've got it right.
When he steps back to taunt, any punches you throw will occur with less frames. So basically the tempo is faster for the last sequence. I was having the same problem until I figured this out.

Is anyone aware of any differnce in hp or damage values on the nes classic? I literally can't get him down with this method. After 3 stars and 2 face lefts I have to dodge, left face, left face, left face, star punch, then dodge again left face left face to get him to drop, also in the third phase I require the 2 face punches after the 3 star punches to bring him down, pretty sure missing the second star punch timing won't put you off by THAT much damage
The health display and controller display is really cool. Anyone know if that is external programs or built in to the emulator he is using. I'd like to get the health display.
This guide has been super helpful. I only have one question, which I probably know the answer to. When I'm doing Piston phase 1 after the 3 star punches, sometimes he'll throw an uppercut between the first and second jab to get my two stars. Is this another variant or am I simply not doing my two jabs fast enough? I have a feeling it's the latter.
He can randomly throw uppercuts randomly but it does help to be as fast as possible. Those two face punches should be buffered. The uppercut should not happen very often.
@@Sinister1 Thanks for replying. Yeah, I meant to mention that Honda throws the uppercut maybe 1 out of 10 times, so it's not tripping me up that often. I've noticed that since I've gotten faster at throwing the first jab (turns out I wasn't buffering that one...oops) that I see the uppercut less and less. Thanks again for the response!
You most likely wont see this because this is an older video but when i try to do the second piston hond star punch it never actually hits on the right frame. Do you know how to fix this? Also are you supposed to buffer the first star punch or not
As soon as the fight starts, try doing right uppercuts over and over again until he does his taunt, then gut punch at the right time to get either a 42 or 43 second knockout
So I can't seem to get the full damage on the star punches on Piston Honda fight, no matter how I try timing them...could the emulator I'm using or controller make it so I just won't be able to get the extra damage?
I imagine you are talking about the input display and frame advance. That is a standard feature of many emulators you just need to find the menu option or hotkey that activates it.
I'm confused. When I knock down Glass Joe he gets back up on 1. Am I playing with the wrong version of the game or something? (This is on Nestopia emulator)

@sinister1 i found a weird glitch today where Honda will not get up on a one count...I play on an nes classic btw...but I don't know what I did in the previous two fights...but I played as I always do...typically always get a 48 to 52 time..made a save state before the fight....and I have reloaded and fought that fight like thirty times now.... Honda will not get up on a one count at all...usually 2 or 5....I have never seen that happen....yes I'm getting good at this game and follow all of your and zallards strats...no damage... late 30s knockdown...he gets up Everytime....lol...I keep reloading the save state...I've never seen this happen before...but like you put it...he musta went skynet....lol...
Is it possible you pressed Select before the fight? If so that will reduce Honda's HP by 1 which is imperceptible to the human eye and he will not get up on one.
@@Sinister1 idont know...but I did not know that...that's initially what I thought I had done but I thought pressing select reduced your health by half..

Imagine any of sinister's fights in Punch Out in real life, where the opponent get's TKO'd in 37 seconds.
