For those of us who have been using Excel for many years and were forced to learn long and complicated functions, including array formulas, these new functions are mindboggling! Thanks!
@@stenionet I was using Excel 2007 for a long time. When Office 2021 came out, I finally upgraded. These functions were just introduced yesterday by the great Excel development team to the Office insider community. Although I have seen a few other early bird MVPs introduce this function to the audience, I haven't seen anyone who explained it in an easy-to-understand way like you Leila. As always you have presented outstandingly well and concisely. Keep it up!
I totally concur with this. I took up learning VBA due to a lot of these types of formulas missing from Excel. Glad to see them continuing to add to the collection of Formulas in Excel.
The CHOOSECOLS function is going to be awesome! This makes doing FILTER SORT tables even better because I won't have to create staging tables that only include the data I want to show in the filtered and sorted table. I can easily create a subset of the original data and display only what I want to display. Such a game changer!
You are amazing, Leila. Your course on VBA made me fall in love with programming and I nailed two interviews yesterday. Python was super easy to learn after VBA and now I can finally see some hope in my life. Thank you so much.

Good times for Excel trainers like me also. We get to update our courses. So nice that I can finally put Left, Mid and Right functions to rest ! RIP, you will be missed.
Before I was acquainted with powerquery most my sheets had these stupid nested ifs to manually split by delimiter, glad to see they implemented an easier way. Wrap is incredibly useful for stupidly setup data, especially when you’re copy+pasting from pdfs for some reason.
unbelievable the code that must go behind these functions - textsplit is definitely the one I would use to separate single columns into multiple columns of data ... thanks Leila ...
Yes, Textsplit is it.! But think i still need Right. The names example. I want column with 1.Names, 2.empty or middlenames, and then 3.last Names. Found your channel a few weeks ago. Love Excel, and now this channel.
Ok, I'm gonna say it. IT WAS ABOUT TIME MS!!! We cried for getif/filter/concat/sort/split/join for years (I did more than 15 years ago) ... then we implement them in VBA (some needed just interface to be usable), and still cry that although very easy to have, enterprise environment didn't feel safe with VBA... then comes g... with the ?sheets that has it all, free, but is only online... and now, after so many years, MS decides to implement them... I say just OK, IT WAS ABOUT TIME!!! Thanks for the great presentation Leila.
I agree that TEXTSPLIT is probably the most useful based on how often I’ve needed to parse names or other data into separate columns. That said, I expect to find creative uses for many of the others eventually, especially in combination with other functions like the ones you highlighted (SORT, UNIQUE, FILTER, etc). Great presentation as always!
I agree these are great additions to Excel, and boy would they have saved me a lot of laborious hours on a large consulting job I recently finished. I gotta say to the Excel development team, great works guys, but what took you so long? You're about 60 years late to the party! The basic concepts behind these functions, including the meaning of the arguments and what they accomplish, were first introduced in the mid-1960's by a guy named Dr. Kenneth Iverson as a part of his Ph.D. thesis before he joined then-giant IBM. They appeared in his programming language known as APL but used a much simpler form wherein, rather than writeout the words "take," "drop," etc., they were summoned with concise symbols known as "primitive functions." It's great to see Dr. Iverson's way-ahead-of-its time concepts appear in a popular usage form. Now, Excel team, you've only got about 25 to 30 more such clever function primitives to create to catch up to where Iverson was in 1965. I eagerly await! 😊
Grab the file I used in the video from here 👉 pages.xelplus.com/new-functions-file
(requires Office 365)

Excel is becoming more and more powerful. I think the team shoul also work on the sharing issues. In that case it could be use to create powerful Applications. Thanks team. Leila you're awesome as well.
I like CHOOSECOLS! I'm thinking of a lot of possibilities with that one. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome I also loved the text split function. More power to ask those excel power users
Good times for Excel trainers like me also. We get to update our courses. So nice that I can finally put Left, Mid and Right functions to rest !
RIP, you will be missed.
Beautiful formulas! Some are game changers because of the simplicity.
Thanks !!!
Wow, wonderful! I often dreamed of functions like these. Thanks a lot Leila for this presentation and M$ for these innovations. I agree TEXTSPLIT !
Amazing News! Thats exactly what i have been searching for.
Textsplit and VStack will be used from now on
Thank you for this video
Before I was acquainted with powerquery most my sheets had these stupid nested ifs to manually split by delimiter, glad to see they implemented an easier way.
Wrap is incredibly useful for stupidly setup data, especially when you’re copy+pasting from pdfs for some reason.
My fvt function is choose column. Thanks alot Leila!! :)
unbelievable the code that must go behind these functions - textsplit is definitely the one I would use to separate single columns into multiple columns of data ... thanks Leila ...
Yes, the knowledge required to do this. Just brilliant minds at work.
Hah! We need these functions yesterday! Thanks Leila for this good excel news!
Yes, Textsplit is it.!
But think i still need Right. The names example. I want column with 1.Names, 2.empty or middlenames, and then 3.last Names.
Found your channel a few weeks ago. Love Excel, and now this channel.
Leila you are awesome, You make our work so easy.
You're really more than excel dictionary.. Thanks for your efforts
i'm as exited as you to see this new functions, thank you! bless you!
I agree, it was time 😊
Thank you Leila.
The video is very much informative.
I was waiting for new excel formulas and Your Explanation.
👍✔️💯
I agree that TEXTSPLIT is probably the most useful based on how often I’ve needed to parse names or other data into separate columns. That said, I expect to find creative uses for many of the others eventually, especially in combination with other functions like the ones you highlighted (SORT, UNIQUE, FILTER, etc). Great presentation as always!
I can't even imagine how would I make my Google sheets working without SPLIT. Something like SEARCH with LEFT?
FAVOURITE…VSTACK…thanks update Leila..take care
I am practically drooling at the mouth just seeing this. It's about time. I LOVE EXCEL!
