Love that the end discussion being long, love that you two have so much to say and have great insight. Season 2 its AWESOME, actually, the show just gets better each season.
It's a lot of fun to hear you guys speculate about Jimmy/Sauls future. All I will say is that this show will continue to zig when you're expecting it to zag, and no other series has done it better.
Oh my.... I love that you two are all about this show!! At first, I couldn't believe that they would try to make a "spin-off" of Breaking Bad, but holy shit. This show blew my mind season after season. Your commentary is so spot on. I can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of it! I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This is the best show of all time (IMO).
Congrats on completing Season 1, been a lot of fun to see you fall in love with the show which is only going to get better and better and I can't wait to see you watch it. I need to respond to two things you said in the outro without saying which bits they were, with 'Oh if only you knew' and 'Oh no it won't', now that vagueness is done, yes there is something with the opening titles, see if you pick up on it as the show progresses. See you in Season 2. ❤
The Intros do mean alot. It's literally what happens at the end of Breaking Bad. The spider under the tie, the kid who was shot and killed by Todd. The falling mug, it could be when Walt was physically fighting Saul when Saul ordered Mike to but the Bugs in Walt's house without knowing. The drawer of phones, the main reason for the whole downfall of Walter and Saul and the reason why Hank and Gomez were killed. The business card in the dirty sink, self explanatory. The phone book, self explanatory. The feet massager, his real peace.
Y’all finally made it to the Season 1 finale, I can’t wait for you to watch Season 2 next, and I think you guys should watch Casablanca and The Queen’s Gambit at some point
Going way back to the beginning when Saul asked Mike "how did you know I would do it" about the Juan Valdez bump and dump, I expected Mike to say " you're slippin' Jimmy". I always got the impression that Mike knew exactly what Jimmy's history was.
The opening title sequences are a metaphor, won't say much more on that. Each episode of each successive season follows a similar pattern of images, with a slow degradation over time. This holds until the final season, which was the only one with more than 10 episodes, so things take a turn, as do events. Just another genius element of a genius show.
love watching you two react to Saul. it is the gift of seeing the show for the first time again. i can't wait for you two to watch Kim Wexler grow into one of the best, most complicated characters on television
One of my favs, such a good episode. Marco, guilt, appreciation like you guys said, being better and more alive in one world vs the other, characters, so good. Soo soo good.
I can't remember if you've seen the movie Nobody yet but I love that there are a couple of little connections like the kitty cat notebooks and the kitty cat bracelet
Buckle up kids it's only going to get slower until season 5. Lots of filler episodes ahead with occasional flashes of brilliance culminating into the biggest anti climax in tv history.
When BCS was first released, the wait between seasons was painful so I get the desire to watch just one more episode. I don't think I binge watched another show quite like I did with each season. It's the TV equivalent of a book you just can't put down. That will get even worse as the show progresses. If you love it now, you'll really love later seasons. I can't wait to see how you react to the character arcs of some you already know and some you've yet to see.
It's not the hectic chaos of a cliffhanger that we saw a lot of in Breaking Bad, but it still has the feeling of a big shift coming. Things look like it could go well for Jimmy if he does the right thing now, but he enjoy slipping so...
The pacing of Better Call Saul is very different from Breaking Bad. Everything in BB was at a frenetic pace, because Walt only had a limited amount of time. BCS can take its time with the plot, because they're going back in time and there's no deadline hanging over Saul's head.
Thanks for the great reaction...so happy that you guys are addicted! Btw, Jimmy / Saul wore Marco's ring through ALL of Breaking Bad. If BCS shows you anything, it's that no characters are all good or all bad...your feelings towards most characters change alot during the series run (like Chuck and Howard this season).
Was that a true story though or was he just lying to calm Walt down? Just cuz we know from BCS his parents were together and ran a shop, there's been no other mention of a stepdad
Great reactions as always. If you are looking for new shows to watch: BARRY BARRY BARRY!!!!!!! BARRY is an amazing show that is only 32 episodes. I just rewatched it a few weeks ago in only 2 days. Now, granted it is because i dont have a life, but it is also because it is fascinating. BETTER CALL SAUL is a great show, and i hope you guys are enjoying it. It gets better every season.
26:39 I think Jimmy was self-sabotaging his chance of redemption because he was, subconsciously, scared of succeeding. When you are about to achieve something you always wanted, you can be taken over by a paralyzing fear. The fear that success will not be everything that you expected it to be. On the other hand, once you get there, you could lose everything at any moment. You begin to overthink… In addition, he was in a fragile emotional spot with the death of one of his best friends; He had been dealt a severe blow with the hurtful betrayal of his own brother. On top of it, this job opportunity would cause him to follow a path traced by his bastard brother. He always needed to "do the right thing" to be redeemed in his brother's eyes. We already know that, even if Jimmy did everything right, his brother would still never accept him as an equal. I think that his final decision was motivated by a rebellious sentiment against what everyone expected of him. He kicked the bucket and decided to ignore what the system and everyone around him was pressuring him to be. When you are afraid, you subconscious can find all kinds of excused to justify a decision that will ultimately harm you. By the way, his friend was a bad influence but he liked Jimmy and admired him for who he was. That's much more than what you can say about his own brother!
Marco however reveres Jimmy for being what he is while Chuck despises him which helped push him more to being such ironically. The difference was in the perception, tone, and delivery.
I think that most people have an instinctive revulsion to family turning on family, even when there's a justifiable reason for it. Most people also have an instinctive desire to root for the underdog. Chuck has every right to not want Jimmy in his life, but because he's betraying his brother, and because he's an elitist, people hate him even though he's right about Jimmy.
Nah - for me, it isn't his motivation, it's his actions. Chuck was intentionally deceptive and manipulative. He actively worked to sabotage his brother without being direct about why until he was caught. The behavior is reprehensible to me, not the feelings behind it. However, the feelings also show a certain lack of maturity and awareness.
@lapislazuli5035 Yes and no. Perspective is everything. Chuck hates Slipping Jimmy. He cannot separate that from his brother. But his real animus comes from his sense that their parents loved him just as much or more despite being that terrible. He cannot or refuses to see that as just despite he did everything the right way and he should have been the favorite. Parents do not see their children that way. As Chuck saw it and he resented that about Jimmy. So he resented the fact his brother was liked and more likable from many people including those who mattered and yet he wasn't. Despite all his accomplishments. So he preferred him beneath him in the mail room not as a peer that he worked hard for. So that aspect of Chuck is seen as loathsome and god awful despite the fact that he was also correct. And in fact his actions towards Jimmy sabotaging him getting to work at HHM and collaboration with Sandpiper are more of a catalyst for Saul. And in being his overseer it cost him Chucks illness is from being in proximity and reaction to Jimmy it has nothing to do electricity. And by Jimmy dropping by with things he can observe him and keep him under limited surveillance..so the conflict of not wanting him in his life but keeping him close because of mistrust caused that psychologically manifested allergy.
@@jlerrickson Yeah, the deception is what does it for me. If he'd been open with Jimmy from the start: "Look, I didn't want to hurt your feelings, but you and I both know you have a history. I'm willing to take you on but you'll be on a tight leash until you earn some trust. If that's too much to ask, I'll help you get work elsewhere, deal?" Simple. Instead he did this awful song and dance for years.
Don’t know the details, but it feels like this finale was made as it was so it would work if the show didn’t get picked up for another season. The way you’ll occasionally see shows do their 1st season before it becomes an obvious “renew” from the networks, etc.
I feel like even after seeing the true color of Chuck, you still can't let go of Howard's imaginary hatred towards Jimmy. That hate for Howard is unfounded at the very least.
Red Delicious are definitely a misnomer. Not tart, not sweet, just bland generic apple. I like Galas or Honeycrisp, personally. However if someone was going to the store, buying my groceries, and then bringing them to my house, I wouldn't complain about which apples they brought. But I'm not a smug, egomaniacal twat like Chuck.
I'd disagree that Chucks intent was to keep Jimmy in his shadow. It's more that Chuck thinks the law is about morality and protecting people and he didn't think Jimmy is the type of person who should be doing that. So i don't think it's a sibling rivalry thing but more like he looked down on Jimmy, which is probably worse tbh.
I’m glad you’re both loving the show, for me , I can’t get enough. I just think this show is more of my favorite than BB. It’s because of all the references, and knowing the BB universe is just so much more intriguing!
The thing about me and TV Series is I view however many seasons it runs for as a complete story and in order for me to love it I have to love the beginning, The Middle and The End of the story. Breaking Bad was a Series I loved because I was satisfied with all 3 but Better Call Saul is lacking in one or more of those criteria for me. I will talk in greater detail about that when you get there. Did I like the series? Yeah it was okay but it could have been Great.
The thing is, Chuck is 100% right about Jimmy. But because he's so charismatic and the main character of the show, audiences tend to view Jimmy sympathetically and side with him - just as they did with Walt on Breaking Bad (at least in the earlier seasons).
Never been a huge fan of this episode personally... if I had to pick my least favorite it's probably this one lol. (not that it's bad) But thankfully it's now time for season 2 and for the REAL story to begin.
It is funny to me people thinking of Chuck as the "bad guy" cause to me he was right when he said Jimmy having a law degree (from a less than reputable online school) is like a chimp having a machine gun. I get you can say he's his brother and he "should" be supportive but he's seen Jimmy be a scammer all his life so i'd feel the same about that too. Jimmy said that Marco would still be on that stool years later if he didn't get his life together and we see he was right: defrauding people of a few hundred dollars a night is no way to live your life. You aren't building anything or helping the community you're just a petty criminal wasting what you steal on booze and other scams.
I wanted to say something but would be a bit spoilery. Just stop making predictions of when Saul is going to make the full transformation to Saul. I hate it when people do it.
love the Kevin Costner throw back from Breaking bad where He said he once told this woman he was Kevin Costner and it worked because he believed it.
The Belize reference is also a much more subtle throwback to when Saul used to bring up the idea of "sending someone to Belize".
@@andrewstrom8157 Everyone seems to miss the Belize reference, right?
@@andrewstrom8157 Belize is also one of the sources for cocobolo….
Yes, so hilarious!
Best conversation of all reaction channels!
Nice to see some solid recognition of Jimmy’s character and agency in choosing to live as he does.

Good observation!
At the time, this episode felt to me like when Walter turned down the job offer (with insurance) from Grey Matter.
Hi guys!!!
Thanks for doing that chat the other day!! I really enjoyed it!!!

I agree, this is a rare case where you could legit love the spin off more than the original.

I feel so bad for Jimmy during the Bingo scene.
