Yeah I used to think people were born with freckles, but really it's a genetic predisposition to having spots of reduced melanin which are more susceptible to UV damage from the sun. Caucasians are usually more vulnerable, but freckles can occur in other skin tones as well just less commonly. No baby is born with freckles, the show up from sun exposure. The reason they show up from sun exposure is because the UV rays damage the skin and trigger melanin to be released into the skin. As a child I was made fun of for my freckles, specifically the ones on my face....and most people with these kinds of natural freckles have experienced the same thing. His insinuation that you wouldn't want to get them because they can be a sign of UV damage is saying that skin like this is ugly, damaged, and abnormal, which is just an asshole thing to say.

It’s not just sun damage guys. And I’m sure he didn’t mean it like that, but excessive sun exposure will result in freckles and sunspots, as well as premature wrinkling. Most people who have a lot of freckles however, are just more susceptible to sun damage so it is easier for freckles to form when they are younger. It doesn’t always mean they have sun damage, though.

Do not take the word of a person just because they are wearing the garb of a trusted professional. Many doctors are not researchers/scientists and will fall out of date with the most recent studies. This info is pre-2000 medicine and was discovered that it’s more of a high risk indicator, but your skin isn’t damaged just because you have freckles. Think of it as you evolved to have skin that lets you know when your starting to get to much sun, so you know when it’s time to take a UV ray break. Not everyone gets this warning 😅 Also don’t take my word either I posted a comment on here that has some cited sources, but you can always use google scholar to find some studies.

Yeah I used to think people were born with freckles, but really it's a genetic predisposition to having spots of reduced melanin which are more susceptible to UV damage from the sun. So really they come during childhood, there are no freckled babies unless they've been exposed to the sun for an extended period of time which is not ever good for babies. Kind of crazy, I never knew this until this short made me google it lol.
@@PickAPockywait I'm still confused, how do the spots get darker?
@@c0smic.dw3ller Everyone's body has different resistance levels to Ultraviolet or UV damage from the sun. Caucasians are usually more vulnerable, but freckles can occur in other skin tones as well just less commonly. The freckles are spots inside your skin that has differing levels of melanin from the rest of your skin, so when the sun rays hit them they burn more easily, causing skin damage which causes their different coloration. Just think of it as areas that are more prone to being damaged from sunlight. Tans are basically purposeful damaging of your skin, and freckles are dots that tan easier practically. Hope that helps!

Wait.... how are freckles a sign of sun damage when you have little kids who have thousands of freckles on their faces without being in the sun or have sun burn/damage
When UV rays hit your skin, freckles develop from an increase in dark pigments called melanin, so some derms consider this as sun damage because its caused by UV, we dont have freckles until UV hits our skin.
i think its very mild damage, just a sign of sun exposure causing more melanin production. even a light tan is technically sun damage
Some freckles are caused by sun damage, most are natural

I feel like makeup trends change so often and at some point she will think why did I do this. Hopefully not since it’s tattooed on her face.
She's a stupid girl who obviously has too much allowance
she's adorable, freckles are adorable, they'll probably fade just like regular freckles....
as far as face tattoos go this has got to be the least regrettable one i've ever seen
Right! People strive for porcelain skin as well and I think she's so stupid for doing that to her perfect face.
Just be happy with what you've got, if you're not born with freckles than just live with it. Like it's so counterproductive to mark up your face when there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
What do you mean freckles aren't beautiful, theyre literally one of the cutest features someone can have imo 😭
I have freckles on my face, torso, arms and legs. I use spf 50 daily and I'm pale, haven't gotten a sunburn in years. I love them and don't see them as sun damage, they fade a tiny bit during the winter here in Finland but are always there.
It is one of the signs of sun damage... And also aging. Some also have it when they have sensitive skin or atopic dermatitis.
Just cause you have freckles, doesnt mean its directly from the sun. Its just how the skin reacts to some form of damage or friability.
I have atopic dermatitis and theyre all over my body and comes and go with temperature, pollen etc.
They fade in winter because they are SUN DAMAGE. DUH!
@@alyssarabaya1575BS freckles are from uv damage from the sun. Nobody is born with freckles (you won't see a newborn baby with freckles).
That's great. You don't see them as sun damage. That's fantastic. Good for you. Unfortunately send damage is sun damage 😂
That’s what I was going to say. I use spf and I have had freckles as a kid. I’m a redhead I have them all on my face arms legs. Definitely not from sun damage lol

Not all freckles are sun damage. Ive always had freckles all over my body and across my nose.....even as a small child. Im also VERY fair skinned with red hair, so ive always slugged myself in sunscreen before stepping out my door because the sun HURTS my skin. That being said....mine arent from sun damage, i was just born this way.
He thinks that children should be mutilated, not a very responsible doctor if u ask me. Kinda says a lot
No baby is born with freckles, the show up from sun exposure. The reason they show up from sun exposure is because the UV rays damage the skin and trigger melanin to be released into the skin. Freckles are just like a tan but because of genetics its uneven. UV rays always damage your skin, even if you dont get a burn. Its always good to wear sunscreen.
He said signs of sun damage. He didn't say all freckles are caused by sun damage. Headache is a sign of dehydration - it doesn't mean all headache is caused by dehydration
I think you should seek professional help... What are you on about 🤔😕
@yuut01234 Nothing I said means that there aren't freckles caused by the sun. I was pointing out that the freckles across the bridge of the nose like this, aren't JUST signs of UV damage. His insinuation that you might not want to get this kind of tattoo on your face because you wouldn't want to look like you have skin damage is what prompted me to make the comment I made in the first place. As a child I was made fun of for my freckles, specifically the ones on my face....and most people with these kinds of natural freckles have experienced the same thing. His insinuation that you wouldn't want to get them because they can be a sign of UV damage is saying that skin like this is ugly, damaged, and abnormal, which is just an asshole thing to say.
i think freckles are gorgeous.
“ Freckles are a sign of UV damage”
Thanks for making me insecure. Before i watched this vid i actually really liked my freckles!!!
Pls don't let this video ruin you'r love with you'r freckles! They are one of the many things that make you unique, and personally, I find them adorable!
Tans are also a sign of UV damage/exposure, as are increased levels of melanin in one’s complexion. The sun’s rays are radiation, which is essentially omnipresent on Earth in one concentration or another, regardless of envirounment. I think it’s cool that our body responds in a way that is unique, beautiful, and interesting to a process all humans are exposed to! Freckles are awesome!
He literally stated a fact. Why would that make you feel so insecure. It doesn't make them look any different, and like in the video, there are people out there paying fortunes to get fake freckles.
I can’t imagine being this weak yet attention seeking to tell the world 😂
Not just sun damage some of us were born with them
Nobody is born with freckles you dumb dumbs. Newborns don’t have any. Google search. You just got them as you got older. You’re talking to someone who was covered in freckles as a kid. I did not have those fresh out of the womb.
you are not born with freckles. no newborn ever had freckles or will have them. and no, moles are not fleckles
No one is born with freckles
@@rpstgagYeah not born with but genetics can make them develop later so it’s not always sun damage.
@@eloisejordanno, you need the UV rays and the genetics. Freckles are just poorly distributed tans
When my freckles would come in as a child, my family would point to them and say oh how cute she’s got freckles. Do you girl!!
Freckles are beautiful.
It’s sun damage
I was born with freckles-
That means your parents have aids😅
Mine developed at 8🤷🏽♀️🥰
Newborns don’t have freckles. It’s sun damage.
you definitely were not born with them! Freckles are something you are genetically dispositioned to have. That doesn’t mean you are born with them. The only way they will be on your skin is with sun exposure. You could have had birth marks that look like freckles maybe.😊
So? U lucky
As someone who freckles easily. Why?!?! But it has also taken me decades to embrace my curls.
Not everyone gets this warning 😅
Also don’t take my word either I posted a comment on here that has some cited sources, but you can always use google scholar to find some studies.
Curly hair and freckles is a gorgeous combination!! I bet you're absolutely stunning! I used to have the same combination before my curls left for milk and never came back 😭
@o8byrner08you can't potentially get "Asian eyes" from the sun tard. Didn't think dense people need that much nuance to things like this.
I think freckles are beautiful. She looks wonderful and natural. Great tattoo job
i freckle super easily despite wearing sunscreen! Ive had a face full of freckles for as long as i can remember. Its just genetics and how sensitive your skin is to the sun.
Nothing personal doctor Yeun- I actually love your soft approach, but that is a great way of PREVENTING overexposure for a very specific treatment. I think she nailed it.
