  • Zelda Volkov believes religion is personal. That's why she offers the married Orthodox Jewish women in her neighborhood a place to look as natural - or as unnatural - as they want while still remaining true to their faith.

    How smart of this young lady, doing something so appreciated by a group of women. I appreciate her thoughtfulness for other Jewish women who want to obey Jewish law but not look like an old lady. Perhaps it would have been better accepted by Hasidic community if this had been produced by one of their men and not a woman.

    Human beings are so ridiculous. Burning wigs to protest the wearing of them...such a small thing. Such an inconsequential act in an inconsequential way of life.
    Religion had such potential to be a beautiful act of love in the world but it's a failed experiment. Religion has caused more hatred and destruction than any love its produced.
    And you can see that here, where a woman has to fear for her life, and her livelihood, because she sews hair into lace.
    Ridiculous, and so shameful for all those who don't want to allow human beings to live freely.

    • @leefrenchfry
      @leefrenchfry 4 года назад +7

      Burning0Lilac The burning of wigs has nothing to do with protesting the “natural” wig look. There was an issue with the source of the hair used for wigs; it was questionable if the hair was donated as a sacrifice in idol worship, which is against Jewish law. That is why some communities decided to burn the wigs and started wearing synthetic wigs or other head coverings instead. I am an orthodox Jewish woman, who is proud to wear the human hair wig. It looks natural, but the savvy can tell it’s a wig and not my hair.

    Religiousness is the daily devotion and relationship with the most high not the outward presumptions of others. You are doing the service of God by being the lovely person you are and making sure the women of the land have access to their coverings and while i am not of the religion i can clearly see that having a natural appearance of a sheitel would be more suitable . If we were created in HIS image naturally then why be shunned for a more natural appearance. Keeping ladies feeling and looking their best while maintaining law makes a happy wife,mother,and home . May God keep blessing you so you may bless others.

I have alot of respect for this young woman.

    • @alizahalon
      @alizahalon 2 года назад

      Your first statement is not at all true. The Torah has had women doing business for centuries. In the strictly orthodox and ultra orthodox communities when a woman gets divorced, she usually continues to cover her hair even though she is not obligated to do so. That's why people were a bit taken aback by her not wearing a wig. Women in the strictly orthodox and ultra orthodox Jewish world have been and continue to do business, run shops, teach, are school administrators, have college degrees and hold down full-time jobs in the work force. Not just now but for centuries in Europe as well. Not everyone can though. If a woman is a homemaker and/or a mother, she is not any less of a person if she doesn't have a job outside the home. She is doing a very important job devoting herself to raising her children or being a homemaker so her husband can concentrate on his business. The Torah recognizes this as does the civil government.

    • @arosencrantz18

      A woman covers her head (many of us do not believe in wigs) because when she marries she has a holy light that shines from her head. Also many hassidic women shave our hair so it doesn't float above the water in the ritual bath (mikveh).

    Well I guess I will be the one to address the elephant in the room.
    You wear a wig to cover your head for G-d in respect for your husband.
    The hair is considered sensual and only for your husband. Okay now.....so if you wear a plain or not-so-plain hair wig ....but men on the street will not know it is a wig and will look at you lustingly.....how does this solve modesty.
    And so it is suggested you are doing this for G-d ....okay.....G-d being a jealous G-d.... you suggest he will be okay with wives wearing a human hair wig? With human hair wigs, the hair is obtained (mostly) by pagan women who cut their hair off in worship to their pagan deity and given as a worship offering at their pagan (hindu) temples, as well as other asian temples which is then sold to wig makers, and you actually believe G-d is okay with this.
    This is ringing all sorts of crazy bells.
    Wouldn't it be more spiritually modest to just wear a veil?
    This reminds me of the story where a granddaughter asked her mother why she cut her roast in two pieces cooking it in two pans. She said her mother always did that. So asking the grandmother why?
    The grandmother explained that she only did that because she did nof have a big enough pan for the full roast.
    Moral: find out why you follow vain traditions because in correct context it may not make sense.

    They have perverted faith. They are making a belief that was meant to keep you righteous and humble- into a very expensive prideful thing! Most of the men probably don't want to see you with your real hair after they go to these shops. I cannot imagine God is pleased when He sees this going on in your in your communities. Think of the poor and the elderly, think of the money that could go to them instead of on your head. Unbelievable. I have learned from so many precious people who survived the Holocaust... you spit on their memory.

      We do! The thing is that a sheitel is for extended use outside the house. For the women who work, it's a must because you cannot wear a hat all day inside at work. Today, with the plethora of options available to Jewish Orthodox women, they will choose what they prefer, whether that be a wig, a scarf, or a hat. Of course, their background and upbringing will play a part in the choices they make as it does for everyone in every choice we ever make.

In American culture it is use for fashion and cancer patients or if you have other medical conditions that cause hair loss. It is hard to see all those crazy things they require the women to do but the man has no requirement expected of him . All my respect to those women that puts up with this i for one could not .

      it's ok if a wig is nicer than your hair. Gd didn't command married jewish woman to cover their hair in order to make themselves less attractive. it's because of the relationship we have with Gd, it's to give them privacy and to create a boundary between her and other men. so even if someone doesn't realize you're wearing a wig, that's ok. you know you are, and beyond that, it is important to feel good in it and there for it's a good thing for the hair of a wig to be beautiful. a beautiful wig is a way to beautify this commandment and feel beautiful in yourself, inside and out.

    2:19 so they're only allowed to buy a wig at a Jewish store? Because she is definitely not the first person in the world to make a natural looking wig.

      I don't think so. People buy wigs from many different manufacturers, especially synthetic ones.

    Very interesting to see how the stories of these very stylish wigs is told, in such stark contrast to how much less present storytelling is in for instance Satmar wigs.

    Such a stupid rule.Wear a wig that looks like your hair and cover your actual hair because it is only for the eye's of your husband.Women have to change themselves so much for most religion's because of what a man has decreed.

      The men also have to wear things as well...? They wear modest, formal clothing such as suits with long jackets, and wear large, wide brimmed hats to cover their hair as well.

    I wonder if any of the clients that come to my job know about her salon. I work in very orthodox Jewish neighborhood in long island called the five towns and I work on wigs you would never know they are wearing a wig after its styled even with an updo, good quality hair very expensive.

    Confusing! Where in the Bible does it say to wear a wig?

    • @Victoria-uq8mf
      @Victoria-uq8mf 4 года назад

      In the old testament it talks about women covering their head. It doesn't specifically say wigs. And I also can't remember exactly what book. If you google old testament bible verses about women covering their heads you will see it. It's been so long since I read in the bible but remember something about that.

      Also note that Jewish people don't believe Jesus was the messiah which is why they will only refer to old testament teachings,in case that might also cause some confusion.

    Best part "I can not wear a wig and that's totally fine" is the equivalent to saying "I can break religion and that's totally fine"

      what religion? there are hundreds of offshoots and cults.. who is right? don't presume to judge another. I think they are all ridiculous, covering hair with hair? what colour is appropriate? how much skin can you show.. is it to the knee? the ankle? Religion is Broken and should be
