I lost my Dad last year at age 66 and he, like Roger, loved to share his knowledge with the world. I have been a fan of TOH since I can remember. Roger, you will be truly missed.
I ran into Roger in DFW airport while we were both waiting for a connection at adjacent gates. I think he was as excited to meet me as a fan as I was to meet him in person. We chatted about some things that I had learned on TOH and I let him know how much I appreciated the work that he and the crew did. He was such a warm and genuine person. Thanks Roger, RIP my friend.
I’m a 71 year old woman who has watched This Old House since the early 80’s. Along with any shows affiliated with it. You lost a family member…the viewers including myself learned a lot from Roger. I’m sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Roger…you’re gone, but not forgotten. 💐
My heart aches. I’ve been watching this show for nearly 30 years. Everyone on the show is great! Not just workers in their trades, but more importantly the manner in which they teach/educate others to be more enlightened as to what to expect in construction. That includes landscaping. My condolences. I had the pleasure of meeting him at his own home when I was there for a service call. In his office I saw all the TOH stuff and said it is you! He laughed and was very nice and talkative. Even gave me a TOH T-shirt on the way out.
Never met this man in my life. Yet he feels like that uncle that taught me so much. Thanks Rodger for all the help and motivation to do the small projects around my house. You’re truly going to be missed.

Roger was so passionate and vocal about sun safety after facing a battle with melanoma that my own father passed on from. It hurts my heart that you will no longer share your passion and creativity with us. You are so deeply missed Roger, but your hard work and efforts have inspired so many generations of people. We love you Roger.
I remember Roger addressing the MA DEP annual recycling coordinator conference. He was the main speaker in front of several hundred municipal recycling coordinators. He started out a bit nervous but he gave an outstanding speech. Loud voice, clear, funny and very knowledgeable. Everyone at the conference was a huge fan of Rogers and gave him a wild round of applause when he finished with the phase “It’s not easy being green…..” This was years ago but Roger left quite an impression! Rest in Peace Roger. You were quite a teacher.

I’m 42, and as a child, my dad would watch This Old House. During those childhood years, I never had any interest and always wanted to change the channel. After growing up, getting married, having children, and purchasing a house, I began gravitating toward This Old House. As an adult, I have thoroughly enjoyed the show and will miss Roger Cook. Thankfully, Roger’s knowledge and impact will continue to live on through This Old House and all the fans-present and future! Thank you, This Old House!
Growing up my pops, would never watch TV but for some reason, I only remember him watching this old house and listening to radio Classics, like clink and clank and that’s the rest of this story surely will miss the class of real men and the way they tried to teach us to be men. I’m hopeful we never lose that way of life and experiences.
the BIG difference between TOH and the other copy cats that came later on DIY, is that TOH actually goes into the details of stuff, teaches techniques and tips (and oh those Rich Trethewey cutaways) so that when you buy or upgrade your domicile, you have a clue. I actually demoed, and remodeled a kitchen, including building my own cabinets, using what I learned from TOH and Norm's Yankee Workshop. This extends to landscape and tree planting... Thank you Roger.
So sad. I always loved to hear Roger’s voice, and gentle way that he led people to landscape. Throughout my life, I’ve often found that the best men seem to be called away too young. Rest in Peace Mr. Cook.

Roger taught me (through my TV ) about root flairs, girdling roots and various aspects of tree care. My wife and I still mimic his voice from time to time when we see a well planted, healthy tree "that's a good looking root flair. That tree's doing alright." Rest in peace, and Godspeed Roger. This is life, and none of us get out of here alive, yet Roger has achieved a form of immortality. All of the skills he taught, all of the gardens he created, THOSE live on, and those of us still here will remember what we learned from him, and those lucky enough to have some of his gardening work, or who have done their own based on what he taught, can look out and still see him, and say "Thanks, Roger".

RIP Roger. I'm 44 years old, there's not a time i can't remember when this show wasn't on air. My Dad passed a few years ago, I can't watch this show without thinking of him. I still watch regularly. I want to say thanks to all of the cast and crew of TOH for bringing us together, even when I was a teenager and didn't want to hangout with my Dad.

To Roger's family, friends and colleagues...my most sincere and heartfelt condolences. Although I only knew him through TOH...I always felt like he was a friend...I hope he realizes what a huge mark he left on this planet...forever to missed...God bless...

Every since I watched this old house, I learned and appreciate the craftsmanship Roger and others demonstrated. I’m still far from what they are, but his spirit is always there. Thanks Roger!
I've watched this show since I was a little kid, learned so much that I've used around my house. Roger was great... RIP So sad
