    Hello Jack , you have done it again with another great video . I went into my Pablo's , a label I just love . There is a Phineas Newborn trio " Look Out Phineas is Back " really marvelous and the Ella "Lady Time " with Jackie Davis on organ and Louie Bellsonn and it sounds like they are in the room . Keep em comin'

    Great video again Man. As I told you, yes, the last Basie big band's albums sound, musically, "tired" because the chief was ill. It shows us that Bill was really the boss. When he was in a good form, the band sounded like fireworks. When he was not well, the band sounded not precise, "tired" .... About On the Road, I was at the concert. They recorded in both digital and analog systems ! But Claude Nobs, the founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival, wanted to be the first man in Jazz to record his concerts with this new system, Digital. So he signed a special contract with Sony. They bought from Tokyo, just for the festival, this brand new digital machine. So Norman agreed because it was a really huge publicity for some new ways to record music on those days ! They sold a lot of albums because it was in Digital. That's why Norman put out a lot of those albums, written in big "Digital". But Claude recorded the concert with the usual equipment then. I have a copy of the analog concert and it's sounds 10x better than the digital one. I don't know if the original analog tapes are still around today ... I'm almost sure that nobody knows that analog tapes exist ... As I was there and a close friend of Bill, I can tell a lot about all of those things

    Nice video Jack, I need to check out that Benny Carter. That Ben Webster-Art Tatum is actually a 1956 session, originally put out by Verve in ‘58, it is awesome! Over the past couple months, I’ve been going deep with the old Norman Grans produced records on Clef, Norgran, and Verve - can’t believe it took me so long to dive into these, some of the best! - Mike

    I’d like to see Count Basie’s “Me and You” and “Get Together” reissued. They’re both great albums but they’re quite pricey here in the UK (if you can find one). Both fantastic audiophile quality recordings from what I’ve heard. They even sound good streaming them from Spotify so I bet they would be awesome if Acoustic Sounds gave them the full treatment.

    I think I mentioned before 'Basie and Zoot', which is probably the best record recorded for the Pablo label along with 'Duke's Big 4' and 'This One's For Blanton'. I bought these and many more ( e.g. Carter's 'The King') when they were new in the 1970s. The Tatum/Webster is a reissue from the Tatum Group Masterpieces from the 1950s, but a new issue of this is always welcome. I have this many times and in many versions and I will, if I can, acquire the new re-issue when it comes out. It is quite simply one of the greatest jazz records of all time with Ben not being intimidated by Tatum's masterful playing and just playing the way he always did to produce something magical. It is the stuff of legends. My recollection is that as the Pablo label went along Granz began to issue more and more jam sessions from Montreux on the label and the quality went down and became less interesting. That was how it seemed to me at the time.

    I can find these titles between 5 and 10 dollars. They are generally clean and sound great. Why would I spend 40 bucks? Makes no sense

    • @Jackgrahamphotograph
      @Jackgrahamphotograph  2 месяца назад

      They are around true, but the remasters generally sound better.... $40.00 better? that's you're call of course. I have not seen a clean Pablo ( certainly one not opened and pristine) under 10.00 in a long time.. usually I see them between 12-18.00, still better than 40.00 ! The vinyl on these reissues is super quite as well. Anyhow thanks for listening and for you're comment. I really appreciate it.--JG
      PS--Just as an aside... I've never met Chad Kassem or have been to Acoustic Sounds, and in no way am I monetized or receive anything for free. Some folks are and thus tend to sometimes plug things that they receive for free. I buy everything I talk about and try to be as honest as possible.
