    My uncle raised Hereford cattle for about 60 years. He always said he loved them and overall they were gentle, but they sometimes got really tough on the furniture! I have always had a soft spot for the breed because of him!

    when i was a boy, 60 years ago, and we traveled across the USA, almost all the cattle seemed to be Herefords. Now it seems that there are few Herefords and most of the beef cattle are Angus. Am I confused? Why and how did this happen?

    • @ChandlerHerefords
      @ChandlerHerefords  7 лет назад

      The Angus breeders were more organized and progressive when the value added product idea hit the market (certified Angus beef). Certified Hereford beef got a late start when they got on the band wagon of the value added branded product. Both breeds are popular these days. Hereford cattle are making a resurgence in popularity and it makes sense for commercial cattle breeders to use Hereford/Angus cross cattle as the base genetic for their herd component.

    Herefords are generally not as "rambunctious" as other breeds of cattle, plus in the recent past there has been a lot of influence for selecting for docility when breeding cattle which makes this easier for ever one involved with them

    • @ChandlerHerefords
      @ChandlerHerefords  7 лет назад +2

      On the topic of sales. Our sale bulls offered each year by private treaty are priced based on the market and their genetics (EPD's). The prices the last few years have ranged from 4000 to 6000 and a few select ones upward to 8000. This may change based on market demands and the sires represented. We are a great value when it is time to purchase a bull for your herd.

    It's great that your bulls have kept some of that *attitude* but still handle well for you.

      Course they do. Then old big boy goes and rolls right in it. Yeh they are well cared for can tell and a good old wash if rain n rubbin against things doesnt shift it, they will hose em down. Some places have ponds and they go in themselves for a soak when hot.

    Enlightened cattle handlers never need to make them run, ever.

    • @totaltwit
      @totaltwit 6 лет назад

      That was something I always tried to avoid with our cows, can't say I was enlightened, more a case of when one got the idea to run about mayhem would ensue, was like a fun-time call.
