Reading some of these comments really annoy me, Miley can't seem to do anything right where some of you are conserned!! She let a homeless guy go on stage and accept the award on her behalf so that he could say that speech! She has a big heart, and that's how she's always been. Just because she doesn't look or dress like the good disney star anymore doesn't mean she's not human, and she has feelings! So sit down, shut up, and get on with your own lives!!
She did it only and only for attention. What else good has she done, made a music video where she swings nude on a wrecking ball and licks a hammer? Nope.

This is so touching how Miley is using her fame and her voice to help people who have not got the voice to speak I am sat here sobbing because of how she has done this! She is such an inspirational, kind and caring role model

Why are ppl judging how a homeless person should look. This was the best part of the show honestly even if he was a actor. It don't matter to me. He got up there and spoke about some real shit during a time when most only want to say crazy shit for winning. Even of he is a" cute" homelessness person who cares. Its the message that counts. Everyone in the room has a serious degree of money so they all needed to hear that. We all did. Ppl like to only care for them selves and not give a damn about anyone else. So props to her for sending him to the stage and taking several seats. Shit was cool to see someone's win their first vma but choose not to waste time thanking the same fans over n over again. And I would have rather it been someone preventable with all their teeth and not years of aging badly, drinking ect. That would have distracted everyone the entire show if someone that rough looking was sitting next to her. Would have been too much and not smooth at all

I don't understand people. When Miley does something "bad" she receives endless hate for it & no one realizes how incredibly talented she is. When she does something good, people say she's just putting on a show & it "means nothing." Miley is a role model & I give her props for bringing awareness to a serious situation in a time when people should be praising her. I love you Miley & congrats on the award!
I'm not a fan of Miley but it's stupid that people think she's doing it for attention. She's had more attention in the last year than probably any one would have in their life time. She has the power to make a massive change and she's using it for the good this year. Even if it was fake, she's brought awareness to the devastating homeless situation in LA, and it can spread globally so people can help out the homeless in their country or city.
If it would be fake, she wouldn’t move on with her happy hippie foundation until today.
I see these comments all the time "I'm not a fan of Miley but" if you're talking about her music then you have that right, but what does that really have to do with anything? Here you preface it with that, then talk about how she's done something good. This comment was in 2014 after the VMAs and it's such a shame that so many people let that tarnish their view of her. She's a talented musician, she's an INCREDIBLE performer, the VMAs were a performance. She's used her platform to promote human rights for a long time, she truly seems to be a down to earth, genuinely caring person. We're not black and white, or rigid, everyone is complex, we have multiple sides to all of us. Even when these comments are relevant to her songs, people say that "I'm not a fan but this is really good" maybe you are actually just a fan. Maybe it's just that one song if nothing else, but just say that. It comes off as condescending to me.
I don't care what others say about Miley! I care about her heart and sympathy to the homeless. Your beloved artists may not commited a big mess or flaws before but the thing here is how an artist care about the ORDINARY PEOPLE!! God bless you Miley! :)

Plus, publicity stunt or not this still garnered a lot of attention to the homeless youth in America and the whole world. And it also brought a lot of attention to her "Happy Hippy Foundation" which helps a lot of homeless youth including ones that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. It's so easy to say that she's doing all this for attention and what not because she's Miley Cyrus and all. But she's probably helped and saved so many more lives than you ever will in your own lifetime. I don't watch anything to do with celebrities but being on social media they always sneak into your life, onto your feed. Why 8 years later am I just seeing this? Miley was a wild girl, she didn't want to be associated with Hannah Montana anymore, so she separated herself and people judged how she was acting, I did. But she has always cared about people, and she is a true inspiration
I don't get why people below have to be so negative about Miley Cyrus trying to make a change in today' society. Yes I don't agree with her raunchy and body exposing outfits but at least she has a passion for something. She has a passion for the homeless people. What she wears in public does not fully define her. Same thing goes to us. What you see of each person is not everything. I think it's great that she's creating awareness for the homeless. People think that the homeless are just lazy people who can't be bothered to get jobs etc. but the sad reality is that these homeless people have to deal with mental issues that may be caused by abuse when they were younger or unstable families. There are sooo many reasons but I wonder if any of you negative people have ever thought of those possibilities. But no, all you want to do is criticise and judge, saying that this is all fake etc. Well guess what I wonder what you all are doing to contribute to society and make a change. Miley Cyrus is actually using her status and voice to make a change. And for that homeless guy who did the speech. Have you ever wondered why he had to go to the extent of committing a crime? Let's all not be heartless but grow to be compassionate. I know what it is like to be homeless... been there... done that... once you are there... it is hard to make it... people are so prejudice of the homeless... they threw me in jail right when I was looking for a place to live... and the people who created trouble laughed... I will never forget how cruel they were... I would love to have a job helping the homeless...

Who even cares if she did it for attention or not?! The point is she is making a difference and is helping to inspire change for those who need it desperately to survive. I have been homeless at the age of 16 and then again at the age of 18 I know what it's like to have no hope and to wonder where your next meal will come from. Miley is trying to make it better for others that are going threw the same thing right now. Be happy that at least one person is standing up to make a difference in this world.

I can't say I'm a fan of Miley's. But just because I don't like her music doesn't mean she isn't a human. Having someone homeless go up instead of her and tell them to talk about the other homeless people in America instead of talk about how great she is? Not everyone would do that. Wow, I'm shocked at the amount of continuous hate this video is getting. You don't have to be a fan of Miley to appreciate the message in this acceptance speech video. I can't be bothered wasting my time on enlightening the people that cease to be amazed by such a wonderful gesture. Giving this man/boy his time to say whatever he wants; because if this was anywhere else, he wouldn't of been listened to. Miley, gave up the time to thank her fans for the award, not to "set something up" or "stage something to get her 'dignity' back", but to get people to listen and realise that not everyone benefits in this life and on this earth.
