It is rare that a cat documentary tells me something I didn't know about cat history. Jackson, you managed two of them in one 13 minute clip. Do you have any idea how happy this makes me? I now officially worship you. Mind you, I pretty much did already :)
In my experience, black cats make some of the best pets. My grandma's cat Sam was one of the sweetest, most gentle souls I've ever met. He was an absolute sweetheart despite having a rough start in life. It's heartwrenching to know that most black cats in shelters are never adopted because of superstition or fear, or worse - deliberately killed by people who 'adopt' them.
It makes me so sick and angry when I hear about people adopting black cats just to be horrible to them. One of my dreams is to have a house or property big enough to adopt all the black cats stuck at shelters, and give them all the love they deserve. 🖤🖤
Friends of mine adopted two black cats that had been severely mistreated before ending up in the shelter. It took a lot of time and patience but they are now such loving, sweet and cuddly cats.
It's even worse for black cats within goth community and Halloween event. People adopt black cats just to complement their goth/Halloween attire, and once they move on with goth clothing or when Halloween is over, they just throw those poor cats onto the streets as if they were toys. I encountered some black cats in my neighborhood and they were thousand-times more lovely than humans.
I worked at a used bookstore that had an attached cat adoption center. During the month of October, we didn't adopt out black cats because of the danger of them being tortured and killed. We did adopt out other cats, however. We had all the cats fixed, microchipped, and given their shots before releasing them for adoption. We charged an adoption fee although it didn't cover the costs of taking care of them. We also had a tip jar by the register. Guardians of many cats and feeders of ferals gave the largest donations.
I was walking in the park this past Saturday and a woman who didn't speak English came up to me with a cat in a backpack, told me she couldn't afford her, and walked off. I have been watching your videos nonstop and i am so grateful to you for sharing your knowledge, i have learned so much from your endless videos!
After watching this I believe I was an Egyptian in my past life and I had a cat I adored because my love for cats is beyond me... My life would be so boring if I didn't have a feline friend. There is something special within us cat lovers. I always say when I die I want my cats to greet me in the afterlife I will not be afraid because I have them to look forward to seeing.. 💕😺
I read a story today about a Lab whose parent was playing "Stray," and the dog tried to save the cat in the game, the one who fell. How sweet is that!😽
My husband and I just adopted our first cat! I grew up with cats in my house, but my husband never had one. It has been so amazing to see him grow into a true cat daddy! We love our new kitty and can’t wait to see her blossom!!
I was super mad that You weren't included in the Netflix Documentary, Inside the Mind of a Cat I love your videos You've made me love cats so much more than I already did Much love from India
Me too its like the Netflix guys were deliberate and spiteful. I was like...come on where's Jackson. That is the only negative I had against the Documentary. Nothing they said in the documentary was news to us because Jackson had already taught us and of course the rest we were taught by our own 4 cats. 😉
So glad you’re covering cat history. I wrote a paper on the history of cats for psychology class. When I was doing research for my paper, two things really stood out to me. Most people believe that humans domesticated dogs, however the cat domesticated itself. Personally I think cats allowed humans to become domesticated. Another interesting thing that you mentioned was the attempt to exterminate cats during the Middle Ages. Humans actually made the spread of the plague worse by killing cats. With less cats, rodent populations carrying the fleas that spread the bubonic plague increased. One could make a solid argument that cats were smarter than humans during the Middle Ages.
I’m so glad to see so many cat lovers out there! I grew up with cats and it seemed like everyone around me were only dog people. I can’t imagine my life without my little furballs ❤️
This episode was honestly amazing! I named one of my cats Bastet because I adore the mythology of the Ancient Egypt and I really liked the way you explained it all. Love your videos, a big hug from Italy from me, Bastet and Ulthar!
Jackson, I’ve watched you for years and years ever since I saw you on tv back in the day. Your undying passion for all things cats makes me so happy. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into the education of cat lovers and showing us how to better care for our little buddies. ❤️
We have two rescues from Dubai. They're both street cats but their dominant breed is Arabian Mau which I learned is the most 'raw cat' breed you can get! They're very very close to the natural cat. I only learned that after adopting them. They are the loveliest sweetest cats. Arabian cats are so loving. We adore them ❤
when you started talking about how the animals in the ancient egyptian pet cemeteries showed signs of being old and disabled, i almost started crying. they were so loved.
Cat's are pretty incredible, them being absolutely perfect means that they haven't really evolved much over the centuries.. They've been the perfect animal for ages and that'll continue till the day the world ends
Unlike dogs, who, through selective breeding, were modified to suit human needs. Dogs are not wolves. Dogs are the animal that we wanted wolves to be. But cats were perfect just the way they were, so there was no need to modify them!
My black cat was quite simply the love of my life ... 20 plus years later my heart still aches & smiles when I think of her. How tragic that people deny themselves all that love ❤💗🐈⬛💗❤ !
Mostly because of reasons that are true. The big one is the cost of caring a kitty. Mental Health usually gets balanced out by another living being, a pet or a human friend. But now, with friendships deemed useless and worthless to nothing. Now mental health is being normalized to the ground
Love this history. My fur daughter Freya is a black kitten and she loves to watch your videos and especially your TV shows. Looking forward to keeping up with everything on your channel.
I've always loved cats & I'm so glad you're spreading the love for cats..... My dear Kirby has struggled with gastric problems for a long time.... He's been tested for normal causes & found nothing.... He was dehydrating from vomit & diarrhea so long that I was afraid he wouldn't make it.... I'm thrilled to says he's doing Wonderful now.... The problem was grain... He's on both grain free cans & freeze dried....
PS... I think the real problem with grains is that they are sprayed with weed chem's..... Which may be that gluten problem in us big people but is super bad for our small animals organs....
I just rescued a feral kitten & I was so surprised that she was tame in a couple of days! Shes so smart & loving. I joke I must be a cat whisperer lol because this is my 2nd kitten that I've tamed this summer. I'm a dog lady but now I'm a cat lady too. The one feral kitten I was told has tortoise shell markings. I was told they bring good luck when they have those markings!
This was the best topic since catification. I love it! Thank you! Don't be afraid to dig deep and make long episode. Or a pod about spirituality and cats. I would definitely listen Namaste 🙏
@Jackson Galaxy, I'm fairly new to your videos, but you've already addressed many of my cat-related queries and hmms. Thank mew, so much, for all the work you and your team put in to these informative clips, in the name of excellence in cat care, which is, after all, the least they deserve 🐾💕^^
cats are amazing, even trought history! they are survivors! their history totaly make sense they are sooo attached to their security and well being! ahhahahahha great work my friend! :D cant wait for part 2 :D
Love these videos Part 1 and 2 I have adopted a cat, and yes it can take Up to 12 weeks for them to fully "Understand and claim Their Home" Grew up with animals, Momma had a life long love and continue to give it to the children and grandchildren, and even great grand children ❤️❤️❤️😸😸😸 all types
I have a cat named acid I love very much and I’ve always been curious on there history. Coincidental yesterday you published a video about exactly what I was looking for. Can’t wait for part 2, I subscribed and liked hoping it’ll link you up with my algorithm. Thank you!
Can't wait for part 2!!! Amazing video. I love the approach that you're taking in the video: get to know where cats come from to understand better your cat in front of you. Loved it. Thank you so much for the extensive research and hours of production to put this video together.
As a cat owner I always kind of go "Ha! That'll teach us" when I hear about the lack of cats contributing to the spreading of the plagues in the middle age. Cats are an essential part of human society.
The idea that Medievals killed cats is a myth proposed by a single historian, Donald Engels, who is called a "fanatic" and unreliable by basically everyone respectable. He literally says we can "assume" it happened, based on a couple pieces of artwork and a single document, and he is the source of this oft-repeated myth. In fact, the Church _encouraged_ monasteries to have at least a cat.
I see it I do. I love all of them. Thanks Jackson. I have 2 Siamese that can trace their line back to the beginning. I wouldn't care either way. They are the ultimate hunter. They are awesome hunters and equally awesome companions.
I can never get enough of history of cats! I had a book when I was in middle school that talked about it but every time I learn something new! 1 thing I though you would mention: cats in Norse mythology, Freya chariot carried by 2 Norwegian of the forests! They were pretty much liked in that culture too! :3
Thank you Jackson🙏❤️✝️ Great historical information about our house cats of today❤️🐈⬛😻🐈❤️ When will you stream another live play of Stray? Have been watching you since your “Cat from Hell” series, so glad you have a RUclips channel! Blessings & Love, Minister Carole from Woodlands VA USA!❤️✝️
It would be great to get Jackson on the H3 podcast. Ethan and the crew have brought up cats a few times recently. It would be interesting to see Jackson do some myth busting, and also give Ethan some advice for his specific situation, since he said his son wants a cat, but he has a few concerns about it.
Thank you for doing videos about the history of cats and the connection with humans! As "cat-people" we already know about the strong bond so it's nice to learn the origins. As owner of two black cats, Am. shorthair and a darker Egyptian Mau (so awesome!) plus a former roommate's longhaired cat, may all 3 RIP, I understand the misconceptions. I'd make sure to take extra precautions to keep them safe as one was an indoor/outdoor for a short time. Again, thanks for your great advocacy work and explanations to your tattoos.
I’ve watched 4 or 5 of your videos in the span of a day! I just want to thank you for all this info, I’m a first time cat owner and I’m just learning so much! I’m nervous but I’m so excited to give him a loving home. I know all this information is going to help!
Hey Jackson, There is a book called " A Cat's Tale. a Journey Through Feline History" by Baba the Cat as dictated to Paul Koudounaris. It has a lot of what you said and so much more. It is mostly a great read except the chapters about the persecution of our beloved cats. If you haven't already read it,do so. There are some heart warming stories.
I own that book, too! So entertaining, with MANY clever pictures of Baba wearing costumes pertinent to each scenario. I am learning a lot of history I missed via that book!
I am 22 years old and I have never lived in a house without cats. The elderly family cat was like a cat grandma to me and my sister. She died when I was 10, and she was 22. I still miss her. I have had a total of 9 cats throughout my life, 6 of which are still with us. I don't regret adopting any of them. Also, the two black cats I have are really sweet.
Always interesting videos! You've been a companion the last 2 years. I've started to watch your videos while I was considering adopting a cat (after having shared my life with ferrets for many years) I've learned so much and appreciate you more than words could say. Talking about wild side of cats, my rescue definitely has is strongly but we still have affectionate moments. The last 2 months I had to give her pills for ten days, twice, and now it's drops in her eyes for 3 weeks... let's say she doesn't like me very much now. Would love to hear your advice on how to create or recreate a bond with your cat, to get their trust back. Any advice or a video about it would be great! Thanks again for everything 🐾❤🐾
Hi Jackson! This was really great thank you so much for the video! Just to let you know Sith is pronounced "Shee" as in Banshee. It's also said that if you are good to them and keep them well fed, they bring you good fortune.
Casper looks so much like my cat Kitkat! Same behaviors too. I love that this is going to be a series, I love cat history. Wish I could take a class on this lol
I have a question. I have a 13-year-old cat, who has a touch of separation anxiety. A little over 2 weeks ago, my mom had a stroke and I went to Florida to be with her. My cat stayed with my fiance, who he has loved and known since he was a kitten. While I was away, my fiance had a heart attack and died. My cat was in the house with a dead body for 1-3 days, as we don't know exactly when he died. I am home and he is back with me. He seems to be doing ok. He is eating, sleeping, and cuddling with me as usual. At least once a day, I find him laying on my dining room table, in the spot where my fiance ate dinner every night. Is he ok? Do cats grieve? Thank you.
Jen, I am sorry for the loss of you fiance. May he rest in peace. I had a cat named Buggy who belonged to an ex of mine. My ex had died in his apartment and Buggy was in the apartment with the body for a day or two before it was discovered. I was notified and took Buggy to live with me and my husband. At first Buggy seemed out of sorts-anxious, crying, and angry. Poor little guy! Here he was, taken from his home and guardian, and placed in a room in a strange house, not knowing why. Thankfully, Buggy knew me and I lavished as much love and kindness on him as I could. I gradually introduced him to other areas of our home and my other cat, and he blossomed. I think your cat may be grieving the loss of your fiance, but I think with time and extra helpings of love your cat with be ok. He has you and the familiar surroundings of his home, so that helps. God bless you both.
What I love about the history of cats is how Egyptians worshipped cats because they depopulated the mice around the fields. If you had a cat you were considered rich in that culture, and how the gods and goddesses were mummified next to their cats. It's just really fascinating. Speaking of being buried with their cats, all the cats I own before my time is up on this earth, my ashes will be mixed with theirs and spread somewhere beautiful.
Omgoodness! I love my black cat 🐈⬛ she is so special and adorable 🥰… such mean things were done to 🐈 cats! It is so sad 😞…. I am so glad that things got better for cats! That’s awesome!
ive hadd cats as pets my whole life, with the exception of a few years and im 50. the times i didnt have a cat, i was lonely, depressed, often felt like the was no reason to be around sometimes. if i ever feel that way, i look at my cats and remember, they need me to keep them alive , and i need them to feel complete, whole. i have a special bond with my little angels
Love this brief touch on some historical things on cats. The goddes Freyja has two large cats that pull her chariot and Durga rides a tiger or lion depending on the region. The New Guinea demon forrest cat Bunyap (spelling) was reveared as very powerful and a protector or to be feared of its rath if people didn't respect it. Also cats were destroyed when Romans invaded Egypt and was a major holocaust of not only the humans/pagans but also the cats - afterall all creatures are people too maybe just not human. Not all Celts or Gealic revere the black cat as a bad spirit or evil but were actually good luck unless of course religion associated cats with witchcraft etc. down the road. I love that the indigenous people of the Americas had tremendous respect for the jaguars (especially panthers), cougars, mountain lions etc. Native Americans have considered the sighting of a black big cat was highly spiritual and the best omen. So weird how Christianity/Catholic religions hurt so many creatures (humans, cats, more). I like the old stories about familiars and old ways and respect of creatures' spirits, even the plants, rocks, etc. Fairies can do good or bad but that's why the people would make offerings to them and respect them as they can be helpful or tricksters but if you treated them well you could be blessed by them with knowledge, medicine, and other paranormal gifts.
I had a "sith-cat"...a beautiful big boy that was my best friend. We did everything together. I even put him in a cat show when he was 12. He won the top award for household pet cats. I lost him when he was 18. He was a furry little blessing from God...not evil. People who think cats are evil are evil (or at least very unkind) themselves...
Same here. I never pick my cat's. There's so many feral cats. One will come around and I slowly earn their trust. Next thing I know, I have a cat. Right now I'm at my limit, 3. Can't afford more than that. But there's always food, water and shelter in the backyard.
Thank you for being alive I just stumbled upon the cat man who like lives at the top of a mountain and teaches cat alchemy and is my version of the giver. Thank you this made my day, I love my cat. 😊 - Cody n Ninja
I love my black cat! My work sometimes requires my to be away from home for a month or 2. While my cat was home with my husband, I missed her. I found a thrift shop around the corner that supported cat adoption. I would go on my day off and spend time visiting the cats that lived there.
I’m sitting here, watching this video, with my youngest of six cats (about 14 weeks) sleeping in my arms after dinner. I think it’s important she knows her history lol 😇

It makes me so sick and angry when I hear about people adopting black cats just to be horrible to them. One of my dreams is to have a house or property big enough to adopt all the black cats stuck at shelters, and give them all the love they deserve. 🖤🖤
@@MachaMongRuad 🤗❤️👍🐱
Friends of mine adopted two black cats that had been severely mistreated before ending up in the shelter. It took a lot of time and patience but they are now such loving, sweet and cuddly cats.
It's even worse for black cats within goth community and Halloween event. People adopt black cats just to complement their goth/Halloween attire, and once they move on with goth clothing or when Halloween is over, they just throw those poor cats onto the streets as if they were toys. I encountered some black cats in my neighborhood and they were thousand-times more lovely than humans.
@@RebelWvlf: I just can't imagine that. A cat is for keeps. And black cats are stunning.
It's so awful people would harm a black cat...my big boy clove is so sweet. Black cats are always so unique personality wise.
Black cats, if treated properly are beautiful and sweetly dispositioned animals!
It is absolutely Mystifying to me, that in 2022, we STILL have people dense enough to do things like that >.
" because of the danger of them being tortured and killed". I'm not even going to ask.
they say never give out cats or kittens for free because dog fighting ringers get them and use them as bait
I was super mad that You weren't included in the Netflix Documentary, Inside the Mind of a Cat
I love your videos
You've made me love cats so much more than I already did
Much love from India
I've been watching Jackson Galaxy for years and learn something new every time. Kudos to him !!!
We adore them ❤
This is a greatly edited video and we all see and love your passion and love for cats! Thankyou jackson! Give Casper a high five bro
when you started talking about how the animals in the ancient egyptian pet cemeteries showed signs of being old and disabled, i almost started crying. they were so loved.
Cat's are pretty incredible, them being absolutely perfect means that they haven't really evolved much over the centuries.. They've been the perfect animal for ages and that'll continue till the day the world ends
Of course they haven't "evolved." That's because they're exactly as God created them to be: just as unique as they are, perfect in every way 🐈❤️
@@donnabaardsen5372 house cats would evolve if they had to for their survival!
Unlike dogs, who, through selective breeding, were modified to suit human needs. Dogs are not wolves. Dogs are the animal that we wanted wolves to be. But cats were perfect just the way they were, so there was no need to modify them!
That's the plot of Stray, cats are still cats even long after all humans are gone
Beautifully done. Thank you Jackson . Your my “Go to” for all I learn and know about Cats.
I love this! Can't wait! 😹 I made essay about history of cats, when I was kid in school. Hoping to learn some new things! 😼
Love you, Jackson, for all your love and care and reverence to cats! 💛🧡❤
Thank you so much Jackson ! I love to come home from work , cozy up with my cat and watch your videos :)
Love when you add variety like this, looking forward to part two!
This is absolutely fascinating!
Cats are the most beautiful animals. I am obsessed with my cats and they are really pampered. Healthy and happy cats are the cuddliest cats.
Love history. Love cats. Super pumped for this!
Great job, Mr. Jackson! This was educational and enjoyable, and it purrs new life into the cats we already love. Thank you for posting this! 🐾😸💝
This was the best topic since catification. I love it! Thank you!
Don't be afraid to dig deep and make long episode. Or a pod about spirituality and cats. I would definitely listen Namaste 🙏
I love that you mentioned the Canterbury tales one of my favorites and I thought I was the only one that thought about the cat door 🤣
UHHHH YES!!!
Also maybe some details on how we can figure out what type of cats we have would be pretty cool.
Mine is a Siamese mix, Babette. She's four, and I don't know what else she's mixed with!
Jackson, this was such a great video! I loved learning the history of human bond with cats, and can’t wait for the next video.
Hello Joanne I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind can we be friends?
cats are amazing, even trought history! they are survivors! their history totaly make sense they are sooo attached to their security and well being! ahhahahahha great work my friend! :D cant wait for part 2 :D
Love this! Actually watch the first half of the video with our oldest cats (Diana) and she was purring the whole time 😁🐈⬛💕 Royals 🤭🤭🥰🥰

Part 1 and 2

Grew up with animals, Momma had a life long love and continue to give it to the children and grandchildren, and even great grand children ❤️❤️❤️😸😸😸 all types
Thank you Jackson genuinely thank you for every video and all the knowledge you share.
I have a cat named acid I love very much and I’ve always been curious on there history. Coincidental yesterday you published a video about exactly what I was looking for. Can’t wait for part 2, I subscribed and liked hoping it’ll link you up with my algorithm. Thank you!
I have put the notifiCATion on for this... 🐈 😻 🐈⬛ 😺
I will never be able to see the word "notification" without seeing the word Cat in the middle for the rest of my life; thank you for that
Can't wait for part 2!!! Amazing video. I love the approach that you're taking in the video: get to know where cats come from to understand better your cat in front of you. Loved it. Thank you so much for the extensive research and hours of production to put this video together.
I love my kitty cats. I've always had an affinity for tuxedos. The history of how they've evolved with us is so cool and fascinating!
I have the sweetest, most loving big black cat. I couldn't imagine my life without him
As a cat owner I always kind of go "Ha! That'll teach us" when I hear about the lack of cats contributing to the spreading of the plagues in the middle age. Cats are an essential part of human society.
there was no lack of cats during the Plague. Not enough were killed to have had any effect on the rat populations or spread of the plague.
Love this - very interesting, and Jackson makes it fun 👍
This video is one of my favorites on your channel! Please make more like this. :)
Hello Jader I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind can we be friends?
Thanks Jackson! Lots of information on my favorite pets! 🐱🐾
What a lovely video Jackson! 😻

Loved the history on cats, didn't know that about them. Thanks for sharing💕
Thank you for making this, great work, folks! 😺💜👍🏽✨
A wonderful video on cats & quite impressive tattoos on cats my friend!
Oh Jackson, this is so so so so so so sweet. Please more. Please more videos like this.
YES! I have my Polish version of the book! LOVE IT!
Wow cant wait for part 2 I love this
Good stuff Jackson!. Can't wait
Thank you.
So sorry for the loss of your fiancé...💔
Is your mom doing okay? I pray so...🙏🏻
I love cats...always have...ALWAYS will...❤️🐈
So sorry that happened to you 🙏🏻😔
I'm sure they do.

That was fascinating! Thanks, Jackson!
What I love about the history of cats is how Egyptians worshipped cats because they depopulated the mice around the fields. If you had a cat you were considered rich in that culture, and how the gods and goddesses were mummified next to their cats. It's just really fascinating.
Speaking of being buried with their cats, all the cats I own before my time is up on this earth, my ashes will be mixed with theirs and spread somewhere beautiful.

ive hadd cats as pets my whole life, with the exception of a few years and im 50. the times i didnt have a cat, i was lonely, depressed, often felt like the was no reason to be around sometimes. if i ever feel that way, i look at my cats and remember, they need me to keep them alive , and i need them to feel complete, whole. i have a special bond with my little angels
Thank you, Jackson...❤️🐈
I have been blessed to have some beautiful black cats...
Same here. I never pick my cat's. There's so many feral cats. One will come around and I slowly earn their trust. Next thing I know, I have a cat. Right now I'm at my limit, 3. Can't afford more than that. But there's always food, water and shelter in the backyard.
Our cat is a feral... She showed up at my son’s home...and adopted HIM!! ❤️🐈
