No name When they ripped off an American werewolf in London, and did the whole undead-best-buddy-that-only-the-cursed-protagonist can-see, that was when I just thought " oh, for fuck sake!" lol.
Footloosemongoose That is one of my favorite movies of all time. It should remain untouched(a remake of it is on the way.) But yeah, this universe is gonna fall like a house that ignored the foundations.
@No name Universal still has time to make adjustments because they have 17 months to see what went right and what went wrong before Bride Of Frankenstein hits the big screen. Most Cinematic Universes do have problems like MCU Phase 1 did, the problem with The Mummy was Tom Cruise who like the selfish piece of shit that he is screwed Sofia Boutella over and took over the film by changing it from a horror flick into an action one to fit his needs and The Mummy wasn't the first film that he fucked up, according to actor R. Lee Ermey Tom Cruise and his then wife Nicole Kidman destroyed Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut, plus those people that Cruise brought in where people that he knew from his movies. Bill Condon will do Bride Of Frankenstein justice since he is a fan of James Whale.
Dude i miss Brendan Frasier. I really liked the Mummy movies with him and now his divorced wife takes all his money and he looks so sad and defeated. I saw an interview with him recently and he looks about to break into tears at any moment and has gained a lot of weight. :' ( I miss him.
My largest complaint with Movie Studios Trying to do the Cinematic Universe thing is that they always try and force it by cramming stuff into their startup films instead of letting each individual movie be its own thing. Do you guys remember that time when Ironman 1 was suddenly interrupted by Nick Fury Expositioning about Thor and Hulk all over the place?!? Oh, no wait... That didn't happen... Marvel built it up slowly in there END CREDIT SCENES! That's at least one thing Skull Island did right...
Goblinerd the Monsterverse is my favorite so far. As a fan of all the old Godzilla movies (I've seen them ALL) they're taking these movies into the right direction.
Yeah, Marvel has the right idea, build it up slowly, the overall series story comes slowly and in the background until climax, meanwhile your focus is on the issue at had with the current characters. And if you'll excuse me, I gotta go watch the Mummy: the one staring Fraser as Rick O'Connell
The main failing of the movie came from,in my opinion, the fact that they pretty much pushed the Mummy to the side in favor of giving Tom Cruise's character nearly all of the spotlight. When you look at the Mummy from 1999 ,there was a near equal split between the main lead and the Mummy -- and while Imhotep was obsessed with being reunited with his former lover,at least it made far more sense than Amunet just latching onto Cruise's character because "he set her free".
I am a bit more optimistic for the Dark Universe and I hade a good time watching The Mummy despite all the lackluster reviews. It's nothing I would watch twice, but I never got bored and the monsters were pretty cool. Enjoyable time spent at the theater.
I really enjoyed it too and the reason why The Critics are such haters is because they are spoiled by the luxuries of Hollywood where they want everything to be perfect whereas overseas they enjoy the movies made here in America, because they know that the people who worked on these movies put their hearts and souls into them.
@Man of Steel The movie was great and for critics such as Screen Rant to say that it was bad and wanting Universal Pictures to scrap their plans for The Dark Universe and to bring back Brendan Fraser who lost his star power tells you that the critics must be on something and for them to say that it was failure is also bullshit, because it came in second to Wonder Woman and is number 1 overseas. Well you know what they say and that is haters are going to hate and the critics are haters.
Wyatt Hagerty Actually Tom Cruise's character is in control but since he is part god now. He looks deformed. I'm sure they'll use him against Dracula. If that isn't Dracula's fans in the case.

I completely agree with you in that I hope that they go darker with Bride of Frankenstein. That would make their release date of February 14th 2019 even better.
The problem with The Mummy was Tom Cruise who made it into an action flick and it is sad that people think that The Dark Universe is dead because of one movie and yet they forgot that Marvel Cinematic Universe had some problems in Phase 1.
True . I think they just wanted to use a female in it this time. I wish theses no talent idiots would go away all they know how to do is re hash old movies and a bad job at it. Look what they did to Star Wars
Very cool review, very close to my own experience. I enjoyed the movie, if anything I wish they showed Lady Mummy Return having a Global Impact (whales beaching, ducks drowning, zoo animals smoking pot, famine, war) but instead her impact was a localized one. She messed up a few city blocks, no one took a selfie, she never made the news. This movie was just about how Lady Mummy messed up this one guy's day. It could have been so much more. But it tried, perhaps tried too hard. Still, just because it did not deliver on my expectations, I was hoping for a purely Horror Movie experience, it did not take away from the fact that it was a fun movie. A little of this, a little of that. Nothing too deep, nothing too new, nothing that bad. I did not feel the need to write a strong worded letter to the Director demanding a refund. I like the whole Dark Universe idea, hopefully they will improve on the storytelling, would be difficult no to. I also hope they get past this new trend of movies to force-feed background story to us. Jekyll turns onto Hyde?? We know that!! You had us at Dr. Jekyll, save the rest for some other movie. It is like making a Frankenstein movie, where the Doctor is a werewolf, Igor is the Swamp Monster, the local constable is a Vampire and the village folk are all Aliens. What is the rush?? Lady Mummy was co-staring in a movie that was meant to be about her. It is a Mummy, coming back to life, it is not a time to talk about love & feelings, just run, try to hide and die screaming. That is all we ask of you.
once I was going to the movies with my friends and we had just smoked a joint and eaten some mushrooms, when picking out a movie they wanted to see pirates of the Caribbean but I had seen that movie so I said we could go to this movie. We got to the movie and we all started tripping balls and the movie started. One of my friends was so scared he stared at the floor the whole time, my other friend was terrified and wanted to leave halfway through the movie, I was scared shitless but was so stubborn on not wanting to leave a movie that I paid for without seeing the whole thing I made them sit through the whole movie and was shitting myself the whole time. Moral of the story is that if you want a horror movie to be really scary just eat some magic mushrooms and it will be a whole lot scarier
This universe should have started with Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, introducing the whole organization, it could have been great! Then the Mummy, and they should have left Dracula Untold as cannon.
What's the point of calling it a dark universe of classic horror characters if it's just gonna be generic action flicks with no horror? Also: How the heck is Hunchback of Notre Dame gonna work in this universe? Like I mean it makes sense in the orig novel and time period but are they gonna set it in modern day? I think most folks now know that being physically deformed isn't some curse from God and all Quasimodo could get some therapy and all and.... it doesn't work as a modern thing. Then again what do I care? If this movie is any indication they'll just have some generic attractive actor toss on a hunchback thing and have him as a generic action hero.
A year late, sorry. In Universal Movies there are many hunchbacked characters. Mostly they are just a lab assistant and/or stranglers. Someone will probably create a reincarnation theme for the "hunch" to travel to new unborn babies. Like that? :-)
There's a gut feeling that you get when watching movie trailers nowadays that makes it easier to form an idea about motion pictures. From it's reveal, this version of the Mummy looked shallow and uninspired, a poor way to start off a universe that has so much potential. Great review, I've been watching your videos for a while, but now that I'm more involved with RUclips I'll definitely be watching you more often. :) Keep up the good work!
Frankly devastated Universal cocked this up, I was rlly excited for the Dark Universe :( Honestly tho Russell Crowe’s Jekyll/Hyde was the best part, + Sofia Boutella bc she’s amazing
I was entertained by the film but thought the ending was terrible. We should have either got a win by Amanet or the Company should have captured her alive for future use a la Cabin in the Woods.
The Mummy with Brendan Frasier was great. There was chemistry there with all thr actors and actresses and although there were supernatural aspects it never felt super over the top. There was some historical fiction aspects, some action, some romance...and all of it tied to the plot without feeling like it was just thrown in. Plus, Brendan Frasier was rougish but loveable. Hands down my favorite movie(s).
Let me say first I do injoy your channel more than others. But Sofia Boutella Mummy's transformation is way better than Aronald V. from the 1999 one. at least she still had bandages over her entire body and still looks undead. When he fully is transformed he just looks like a regular Egyptian walking around. that's what always bugged me on that one. I like both film's too I even went and watched this one again it does have some flaws. anyways that's all. good job.
Yes, Brendan Fraser needs to come back to “The Mummy”. Also, he could come into this universe of the lackluster 2017 reboot. Tom Cruise could easily become a new Mummy and Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has the book of the dead in his lair. I still want to see Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and maybe Angelina Jolie and Dwayne Johnson involved. I agree that “The Mummy” reboot focused too much on action instead of horror, but Blumhouse’s “The Invisible Man” will focus on being a horror movie and create a new shared universe. “The Haunting Of Hill House’s” Oliver Jackson Cohen will impress us as the title character (which Depp was originally supposed to play, which would’ve been fun.) We could still use Cruise, Crowe, Depp, and Bardem in Blumhouse’s universe, but the movie’s shouldn’t be too “Mission: Impossible” like “The Mummy” proved to be.
I definitely think the film was okay but I hoping for a dark universe series will continue because I am huge fan of universal monsters and awesome review you did on it.
There was actually 4-5 scary moments in the movie. 1. When one of the character just straight up murdered his commanding officer and was walking towards the other characters with the intend of killing them also. (but it was partially ruined by an attempted comedy moment, that scene should have remained as it was, suspenseful). 2. When the two EMTs encountered the Mummy and they "rise", that was scary and messed up. 3. When Tom Cruise "encountered" the Mummy in the alley way and was chased by countless numbers of rats. (again it was partially ruined by it just being a fucking vision). 4.When Tom was kidnapped and almost sacrificed. That was scary, but again the scene was ruined by a forced comedy attempt. 5. When Tom realised he was actually being possessed, in which he unknowingly drove back to the Mummy. There was actually two real funny moments. 1. When Tom was about to go kick the Mummy's ass and his friend was cheering him on. 2. When Dr. Jeckyl revealed his plan on how to defeat Set and Tom is liked, WTF kind of plan is that??? The director clearly knows how to make scary moments, but is weak at comedy. I think he should make a reboot of the Resident Evil movies, but making it into a more serious and atmospheric tone, making the zombies more scary and the whole situation more suspenseful.
I liked the action-pic spin on a Mummy movie. The hoopla with Russell Crowe and those ancillary figures flagged my enthusiasm. Casting Tom Cruise was brilliant, and plans to feature Angeline Jolie in later films seem perfect. (About time for a Cruise-Jolie film?)
Not at all. The Dark Universe already feels like an injured animal needing to be put down. It's just suffering since Universal 'horror' has been dormant for too long. They have lost their touch. Such a shame as the classic monster movies dominated their eras and so many generations after. Thanks for the review. I was afraid this would happen. 😕
I think its interesting that people say this movie is flawed because it spends the run-time setting up the next movie/ universe, when Disney does the same thing and has made the worlds largest and most popular cinematic universe that is critically praised.
I was so disappointed by this movie. I really loved the first two movies ( I pretend that the third The Mummy movie didnt happen), and I was hoping they'd give it justice. The first part until the plane crash was promising, but then it got dragging, and that whole Tom Cruise's dead best friend appearing was so corny, and the supposedly climactic part in the end was so overly drawn out and cheesy. Also they were trying so hard to add in that humor from the original The Mummy movie. And I didn't like how most of the back story was simply revealed by dialogue from the best friend (sorry I dont remember his name) and Jenny :( i feel like the story couldve had a lot of potential if it was structured and executed well. so sad :(
3:55 "His character dies pretty early in the movie and i was like phew, thank gos that's over!" Me *jokinglyly to myslef* "But then he suddenly comes back as a ghost! hahaha" "But then his character returns as a ghost" Me: "........did someone write this movie as a joke?"
it SHOULD have been a suspenseful horror film, that took place inside a pyramid, where a 6'6 250lb monster of a man is the mummy, and he essentially chases them through the pyramid, and the only way out is to go deeper into the pyramid. and this could be in modern times too. you could have the 1 of 2 enterances be collapsed causing the cast to be trapped, with no phone signal. im not sure how they would stop the mummy, maybe trap it in an area of the pyramid for the time being, but thats what this movie should have been.
Can you do a explained about "Riaru Onigokko"? It's a Japanese fantasy, action, horror movie from 2015. It's also on youtube with english subs if you want to watch it!
They need to do a movie called the O’Connell’s and bring Frazier character back and have his family be like the Belmont’s of the dark universe. They can connect the movies and no need for background info on them.
agreed. This movie felt more like the first entry into whatever they're planning for this universe. The Mummy wasn't scary. She never really felt like a threat and what was her master plan? in the past she wanted power then settled for love? she couldn't run the world without a man? She came back from the dead with her own powers of life and death (she raised her own mummy's) and other powers. But, she STILL needed her beloved to give power to. Then she spent most of the movie chained up and in Cruises head...trying to get him to love her. Her scariest thing was attack people with a sandstorm. There was more talk about this Predigium or whatever than the actual mummy.
CoryL The god of death was working through her to bring himself in a physical form. That's why she needed Tom Cruise's character as he was the one who freed her and thus got cursed to be the one to embody the god of death
If Universal wants to make this movie franchise great, seriously consider hiring competent screenwriters who know atmosphere and horror and get directors too who have experience in the genre. In fact I suggest hiring old and new blood to work on this and bring something to the table.
I liked the Easter Egg they had for the Brendan Fraser Mummy, it was super quick like an easter egg should be but they made sure you'd see it by pointing a camera directly at it, Over all I don't hate this movie, it's fun for what it is and I was never expecting greatness
Pleases do ending explained of a movie on Netflix called the chosen I want to know what you think happens to the people that get pulled under the bed pleases pleases do it 👍🏼
Hey FoundFlix. I really need a favor.. I would like you to do a Ending Explained on the movie "The Fits" I dont want to say too much because i would like to leave it to your interpretation but I feel like I alone cant seem to interpret the meaning behind this movie. Thanks for reading if it doesn't seem like the kind of movie you would do.
Can you do The Wailing ? It's a very long but good thriller/horror movie without jumpscare but because it's a Korean movie so few people have seen or reviewed it
They tried so hard to make it a "The Mummy" movie. I mean the ones with Brendan Fraser. Because those movies were so action packed and enjoyable to watch. The problem is they tried so hard it flopped, forgetting that the movie had a balance of horror and action unlike this new film. Its sad because i had high hopes for this film. I absolutely love the previous mummy movies for its unique style of simple horror, comedy and action all blended.
I actually like the movie although you are right in that it just speeds through scenes If they would just make the dark universe movies a bit longer by an hour the series of movies will be great. this movie would have been been better with and extra hour and more story content
I watched this movie yesterday with my family and I got bored watching it. I kept looking around and thinking "You people are so lucky. You can leave any time you want."
@@karma6574 for sure. It was also really hard not to root for her, she felt more like a sympathetic victim of circumstances than a really evil villain. Also Dr. Jekyll ruined the film for me. This was not the movie to set up the sequels for the dark universe in.
i don't get the dislike for dracula untold i mean maybe the advertising for it was different everywhere else but here it was basically hey look here is that badass vampire dude beating people up which was basically what we got i find. if anyone expected something else then they didn't see the same promotional footage i did
The only thing I loved about this film, and I hoped for Hollywood to make a spinoff film of,... Russel Crow as Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Russel Crow wasn't even the star of The Mummy, yet his performance as two different men in one body was spectacular. He was so good you knew who was who based on his acting abilities, and there was no need for make-up. 🥰You can see those Drama classes coming out. I think Russel Crows' performance what saved this film from being part of my trash pile along with Open Water.
It seems like they're making the same mistake that's being made with the DC universe movies, a rush to build everything at once. What made the Marvel universe work is that the studios took time to put out movies introducing each factor, then bring them together. With DC and now with the Dark Universe, it really seems rushed. Also I read Tom Cruise interfered alot with the script while filming which din't help anything. Anyway, good review.
Mission impossible: Mummy protocol
dummy protocol
Level 7 Vayne got eem boi
Your joke is unoriginal
The universe was doomed when they said it will focus on action and not the horror aspects.

dark universe should stay in the dark.

I only enjoyed Dracula Untold though. I hope they bring back my boy,Luke Evans, for the sequel.
Smartfunnyandlazy I loved Dracula Untold Smart sassy and fresh.
Dracula was pretty amazing Wolfman i persnonally enjoyed it but the mummy is shit
Who knows, maybe this will be the Incredible Hulk of the Universal Universe.
I was hoping universals dark universe would be more horror.
wait so I need to know if the invisible man is part of the dark universe? Just need to make sure
Wait, Dracula Untold wasn't just some anomalous monster movie with cheesy but entertaining presentation?
My thoughts as well, someone mentioned a Wolfman movie as well before that even.
I watched this movie on mushrooms, one of the scariest movies i have watched
I'm glad that Jekyll and hyde got some sort of interpretation.

Tom Cruise(58) is called a "young man" by Russell Crow(56). lol
wait you didn't like dracula untold???? also thanks i was waiting for this review! great vid!
I definitely think the film was okay but I hoping for a dark universe series will continue because I am huge fan of universal monsters and awesome review you did on it.
Your voice is really loud. Love your channel.
The best mummy movie i have seen in this lifetime is with Brandon Fraser, along with the badass mummy Imotemp...
because he is The Darkness/Evil (Satan, Set) who will be able to beat him? that is what i am wondering. maybe Cthulhu? Nephthys?
he's not satan. wrong mythos. more like the god of chaos, violence, and deserts.
but basically god tier people should be able to.
So did they cancel the other movies? I don’t remember hearing about the bride of Frankenstein in 2019
I think its interesting that people say this movie is flawed because it spends the run-time setting up the next movie/ universe, when Disney does the same thing and has made the worlds largest and most popular cinematic universe that is critically praised.
And I didn't like how most of the back story was simply revealed by dialogue from the best friend (sorry I dont remember his name) and Jenny :( i feel like the story couldve had a lot of potential if it was structured and executed well. so sad :(
It's the feeling of being alive ! Filled with evil but truly alive ! It's the feeling of being Edward Hyde !
Is that a picture of Ramona on your wall?
Oh wow, why do you have the Army of Darkness poster in German? 😂 I loved that flick as a kid
3:55 "His character dies pretty early in the movie and i was like phew, thank gos that's over!"
Me *jokinglyly to myslef* "But then he suddenly comes back as a ghost! hahaha"
"But then his character returns as a ghost"
Me: "........did someone write this movie as a joke?"
I looooove the mummy with brendan fraser 😍😍😍😍 also john hannah is amazing 👌
it SHOULD have been a suspenseful horror film, that took place inside a pyramid, where a 6'6 250lb monster of a man is the mummy, and he essentially chases them through the pyramid, and the only way out is to go deeper into the pyramid. and this could be in modern times too. you could have the 1 of 2 enterances be collapsed causing the cast to be trapped, with no phone signal. im not sure how they would stop the mummy, maybe trap it in an area of the pyramid for the time being, but thats what this movie should have been.
Can you do a explained about "Riaru Onigokko"?
It's a Japanese fantasy, action, horror movie from 2015. It's also on youtube with english subs if you want to watch it!
Mission impossible with Supernatural elements
They need to do a movie called the O’Connell’s and bring Frazier character back and have his family be like the Belmont’s of the dark universe. They can connect the movies and no need for background info on them.
the double eye makes me think it looked looked like car frontlight
after hearing the bit about cruise not coming back I can safely say I will be watching the new dark universe movies as they come out.
You should do a trailer review/your thoughts on the new black panther trailer!
That's why she needed Tom Cruise's character as he was the one who freed her and thus got cursed to be the one to embody the god of death
for what? why couldn't he just take her form or do what Cruise did and work through her and make her stab herself?
If Universal wants to make this movie franchise great, seriously consider hiring competent screenwriters who know atmosphere and horror and get directors too who have experience in the genre. In fact I suggest hiring old and new blood to work on this and bring something to the table.
We won two tickets to a preview of this. So glad we didn't have to pay for those.
I liked the Easter Egg they had for the Brendan Fraser Mummy, it was super quick like an easter egg should be but they made sure you'd see it by pointing a camera directly at it, Over all I don't hate this movie, it's fun for what it is and I was never expecting greatness
I actually really like you’re idea with Tom Cruse’s as the mummy lol xx
There is Bride Of Frankenstein next and as for The Mummy, it is doing well overseas whereas here in America it came in second to Wonder Woman.
Pleases do ending explained of a movie on Netflix called the chosen I want to know what you think happens to the people that get pulled under the bed pleases pleases do it 👍🏼
I sure could go for an egg macguffin right about now because a reason I have that's important to my story because I need it.
Great review. Sofia looks awesome.
I rooted for Ahmanet - and I hope for her returns.
I was really hoping this would be closer to the mummy with Brendan Fraser
Hey FoundFlix. I really need a favor.. I would like you to do a Ending Explained on the movie "The Fits" I dont want to say too much because i would like to leave it to your interpretation but I feel like I alone cant seem to interpret the meaning behind this movie. Thanks for reading if it doesn't seem like the kind of movie you would do.
Can you do The Wailing ? It's a very long but good thriller/horror movie without jumpscare but because it's a Korean movie so few people have seen or reviewed it
Javier Bardem already has a huge square head. They def cast him to save money on monster prosthetics lol.
Anyone notice how they also break two horror movie tropes in this version of the Mummy as well?
I don't know who made Friday the 13 movies but , can we get a remake ?
Just asking, but you think the original "The Mummy" movies are scarry?
I actually like the movie although you are right in that it just speeds through scenes If they would just make the dark universe movies a bit longer by an hour the series of movies will be great. this movie would have been been better with and extra hour and more story content
after the avengers and justice league are there any good actors left in hollywood to play action movies/horror movies?
He is basically a tougher Johnathan on 1 and 2
The only good thing about this movie is that it made me go back watch The Brandon Fraser's Mummies franchise again. Nothing can beat that
I watched this movie yesterday with my family and I got bored watching it. I kept looking around and thinking "You people are so lucky. You can leave any time you want."
2:59 freshmen in da school bathroom
Ending Explain Room (2015). I have no idea what happens at the end, I need help.
I pretty much agree with everything you said..as of late there has been a drop in the quality movies the past few years.
running away from things as usual lol.
please do ending explained on the autopsy of jane doe! i wanna hear what you think of it :)
It made me sad that she died...i really liked her character...just wish they would have given her more to work with in it.
Me too it would've interesting if she'd won. Would've given us plot for a sequel
@@BleedingLiar17 That would have been so kool
@@karma6574 for sure. It was also really hard not to root for her, she felt more like a sympathetic victim of circumstances than a really evil villain. Also Dr. Jekyll ruined the film for me. This was not the movie to set up the sequels for the dark universe in.
@@BleedingLiar17 Yea
i don't get the dislike for dracula untold i mean maybe the advertising for it was different everywhere else but here it was basically hey look here is that badass vampire dude beating people up which was basically what we got i find. if anyone expected something else then they didn't see the same promotional footage i did
I did like Dracula untold still waiting on a 2nd one because of that cliffhanger... probably be another Eragon cliffhanger for a sequel fail...
I admit, I LOVED the Dracula Series in Netflix.
Hey! Could you "EVERYTHING EXPLAINED" about what is/was the Dark Universe? Been over a year and the movie did do well overseas.
please do "No Escape " that movie was so good
