never thought about this. it could very well be true. but i figured the noises that were heard in both movies was the witch changing the topography of the land. snapping the trees in the process.
Blair Witch 2: A team of a Russian special agent, an American seal, a British engineer, and a FBI Agent are sent with a bomb to blow the entire woods up.
“She” absolutely had control over time in the original. The backpack with the found footage was found under the foundation of a house that they died in but which had been burned down 50 years prior.
I heard this one story of a guy, who lived in the area where they shot the Blair Witch Project, and he was on the older side so he wasnt that fond of all the tourists and stuff showing up bothering everyone. So he'd go into the forest, set up rocks and stuff in weird patterns, and then leave, which managed to scare off some of the annoying tourists. Idk if its true but the thought it pretty funny imo
What I hated about Blair Witch is that in the original + the faux-documentary is that the witch never ever manipulates people to come into the woods- if they enter, then it's fair play (and large groups are safe, as we see in the documentary when the police search & find the original tapes), but it seems ridiculous that she would want to time loop bs to get Heather's brother, who did not enter her land.
@@TheArchersTungsten No man clearly you watch to much Vice news, the labour camps are not as terrible as the main stream media says, notice how U.S.A is always picking on countries that don't use big branch banks such as Iran, Syria, North Korea you would be amazed how easy it is to make up farbrications I.E Syria chemical attacks were actually civilians bribed by ISIS to say it was the Syrian army it's hard to know what is actually going on because there are so many individuals with different interests.
But the first one clearly depicted the witch as just wanted them to leave its territory, giving them warnings that got consecutively worse each night that they didn't leave. They were just unlucky enough to be lost in her woods long enough for the witch-creature-thing to get violent.
Dear haters on ending explained, I know you hate how FoundFlix goes through the whole movie but how if you haven’t seen it yet are you supposed to know the ending if you haven’t seen it so please stop hating on this great channel -Hannah xx
Also! What i noticed was that since its some sort of time loop that when Heather talks to the guy in the corner, its actually her brother which is why he hears her voice and turns around but she dies when he dies and because he was in that time and not with his friend thats why when she spoke to him he didnt hear her because they were next to each other but somehow in different times.
thats an interesting take, but that would not explain for Lisa's case. I believe it was meant for us to think that it was the Witch's/Wooden creature trick.
Yeah, thats a problem, we just dont have to look that closely to. That leads to question If we should see any supernatural thing or hear any on the tape at all. But seeing witch on the tape and hearing the voice is just so cool to the storytelling :)
... What? Heather talking to someone in the corner? When did that happen? Oh, right, it didn't, unless you count Heather screaming "Mike!" At Mike before getting killed as "talking to someone in the corner".
Guy: "Don't look at her, or you'll die." Girl: "Ok." Guy: "Wait, is that my sister behind me?" Girl: "I don't hear anything, I think the witch is trying to trick you." Guy: "Oh shit really?" Girl: "Yea!" Guy: *turns around*
Seeing how the budget for this film was 5 mil. and it made over 40 mil. I really hope we get another movie that wraps the whole thing up and gives us some answers.
One thing I never like about Horror films. Is they their is always an ultimate evil. A thing that never dies or feels pain and just goes around murdering people. I'd establish rules with these things, certain things they can't do. Like go into a church or attack anyone whose a believer in Christ. I know people don't believe or want to see that. But dealing with the Supernatural if you're going to have evil, should have something that good.
SlenderWitch may very well be a wendigo as wendigo feed off of human flesh, and can use voices they hear. They also have insane strength and "flexibility". That would explain how it's able to drag people so fast and easily.
Elly Kedward might have been banished for witchcraft, but in the Blair Witch-lore, it's actually an ancient force, known to the local Native Americans in Frederick County, as "Hecaitomix", which dwells in the Black Hills forest and surrounding area. This was added upon in the Blair Witch-games released in 2000 (Volume I-III), and was the main antagonist in the games. An ancient force or demon from another plane. I recall one of the mockumentaries that was released on the old Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy) to promote the original movie, they said that even the Natives stayed away from much of the Black Hills, as it was cursed, probably long before Elly Kedward settled in Blair Township. Coffin Rock for instance was an ancient site of sacrifice, and the Natives couldn't drink the water from Tappy East Creek. The stickmen supposedly is to ward off evil, or to work as a "dreamcatcher". In the original movie, there was several alternate endings, one having Michael Williams crusified on a large stickman down in the basement of the Rustin Parr house. This was dropped however. Blair Township was founded in 1634 to protect the western approach to Baltimore from attack from Indians. These attacks never happened, as most Natives stayed away from the area. After the abandonment of Blair, the town fell into legend. People spoke of a boarded up town in the woods which had fallen under the curse of a witch, forcing the residents to leave abruptly. There were also rumors of a cemetery filled with the gravestones of children. Blair was later rediscovered and settled as Burkittsville in 1824.
Can you provide a source for this? I am familiar with that area and to my knowledge there is no forest called Black Hills Forest in Frederick. The closest to that is Black Hills Regional Park in the next county Montgomery. It’s a fairly big park, but hardly a dense forest you could get lost in, and doesn’t have that history tied to it. It’s in a suburban area. Much of the film was actually filmed in Seneca Creek State Park, which is also located in montgomery county, but again, doesn’t have a witch story. Burkittsville is a real town (only the few shots where they took pictures of the sign where actually filmed there). It is true that it used to be called Blair. The end scene with the house was filmed a bit further away, not to far from Baltimore, in Patapsco Vally State Park. But there was no story of a which tied to it. The original director is from montgomery county too, this story was entirely made up. If you go to montgomery county maryland you can find a high school called montgomery blair high school. There is no witch story.
@@meghabhatt2063 It's all fiction. The OP was explaining the expanded lore in the fictional universe. This was further embellished by another game released in 2019, and goes into some aspects of what the OP discussed, though it apparently mostly focused on the witch manipulating people via their own internal darkness, rather than the darker thing supposed to be really behind it all, which dwells int he woods.
I think the slender creature IS in fact the witch. Remember when Lane told the group that the "witch" wasn't just left to die in the forest, the townspeople had tied ropes and heavy rocks to the witches limbs and essentially created a makeshift rack which stretched the witch's limbs.
i think it is. it looked really long and lanky which matches up to the story they told in the movie where they hung up the women from her arms and tied rocks on her feet to stretch her to death
I really hope youre right. It ties in perfectly well with Lane referencing her limbs being stretched by weights when she was banished. Uploader's idea that it could be Heather is also interesting but I prefer the Witch theory
@@moosedraw3731 That's not the witch, confirmed by both the director and writer. Eduardo Sanchez (creator and director of the original film) did a Q&A on the Blair Witch forums and confirmed a bit of lore that had been floating around the fanbase quite a bit. That is, Native Americans never settled in the Black Hills Forest and never stayed overnight, believing to be the home of a godlike spirit called Hecaitomix. Now Eduardo didn't confirm very much, but he did say that Elly Kedward isn't the only power at work in the woods with something far older being there.
I think the "slender witch" was Rustin parr, as the monster couldn't kill you unless you looked at it. Lisa comments that the creature couldn't stand it's own image that's why she backs out of the attic and the creature has to imitate James to get her to turn around and look at it to kill her. That's why James told Lisa to face the corner because in the first movie one of the interviewees told heather Rustin parr killed the children in twos and made one face the corner while he killed the other because he couldn't take the eyes on him. Josh facing in the corner in the first movie, Peter facing the corner in the second movie and then Lisa and James not getting killed until the faces the creature. It's gotta be Rustin Parr
I know you made this comment 7 years ago. But I just watched the movie for the first time and wanted to look up videos on it. But back to the point this makes so much sense. Out of all the theories I like this one the most. Thanks for making this comment all that time ago that now I can come across and join the idea.
Also: the lightning struck tree where Lane was said to have found the tape at the beginning of the movie is shown to be next to the house at the end of the movie.
What I am really fascinated by is the original how they had no idea they went back in time once they got lost. and the fact non of the law enforcement couldn’t understand how their footage was underneath the foundation.
I think you nailed it! Especially the light that shines in briefly at the end. In the making of documentary on the bluray, the filmmakers specifically say that this is one day passing rapidly, showing the witch's power. I also like the idea of the slender monster being Heather. It's a great way to tie the two films together, and satisfies why the characters went there in the first place. When Jason said he thought she might be alive, I thought that was a stupid idea - I mean, it's been 20 years! But if she's become a deformed monster, then tragically, her poor brother was right all along. Nicely done explanation!
The 'monster' was clearly Elly Kedward (hence the stretched arms) who was 'accused' of being the witch but was probably another controlled person like Rustin Parr. I really hoped the folklore would be expanded after this film but unfortunately not :(. Could have been interesting if Heather was labelled as Elly Kedward if the time loop went as far as trapping them in the past but couldn't see how they could make that happen coherently.
I'd love some books expanding the story. I never played any of the games but I hope someday maybe some other piece of media shows what happened to each of the protagonists. It'd be cool if one manages to end the witch. Even if they disappear.
The tree that got hit with lighting in the beginning Is the same before the house at the end, meaning they are at the beginning of the forest but the witch will not let them out crazy, no one figured this out.
FoundFlix comment section drinking game: Take a shot everytime someone comments 'Ending explained...explains entire movie' 😔 You new here? Ever tried to explain the twist ending of a movie without the context that leads up to it? If he did that, none of these videos would make sense and you'd be whining about that... This guy works his ass off to contextually explain films and deserves more respect than the same dumb comments every time.
I agree with you Kate. I like foundflix. If they don't like why do they watch it. That being said, he makes a living this way 'n puts the comment section open to all. It's the purpose of the comment section that people can give their opinions or comments wether they are positive or negative. Freedom of speech. Also i don't think he minds criticism. It's mostly other people in the comment section who are offended.
the last 20 minutes of this movie are so good. If I was ever scared in a movie, this was one of those times. Just wish they didn't follow so many terrible cliches. Would have been an amazing movie.
Even though The Blair Witch is the ground breaking first found-footage classic, the concept of the manipulation of time and space has been already done in Grave Encounters (another found-footage classic).
The Blair Witch controlling time and space in the forest isn't a new addition at all. It's just elucidated in the 2016 film. The house at the end of BWP is Rustin Parr's old place, which had been burned to the ground by the townspeople in the 40s. The house wasn't standing when the tapes were found. As for space, if you recall, in the BWP, Heather, Mike, and Josh walk south for an entire day but still somehow end up back at the same log.
Commissar_Dan The Blair Witch dun goofed when she picked a forest. If she wasn't burned originally, she sure didn't keep herself from getting burned now. The old townsfolk were probably using working scales, or a lighter duck.
3:26 Ah, it wasn't made CLEAR in Blair Witch 1 that the Witch has control over the passage of time... but it was HEAVILY IMPLIED. You just had to read the back story on the actual Blair Witch Project website, here: www.blairwitch.com/project/mythology.html The story according to the official website is that the duffel bag that contained the footage for Blair Witch 1 was discovered by anthropology students under the foundation of a house that was over a hundred years old. Now, if you know anything about building, you know that a foundation is at the very bottom of a structure and is completely solid - meaning that there's no way the footage could have been placed there unless it was done BEFORE the house was built. Thus, the implication is that Mike, Heather and Josh were somehow transported back in time during the events of Blair Witch 1 and didn't even realize it.
Exactly. Funnily enough, when asked how Mike and Josh got the duffel bag under the foundation of a house built in the 30's or 40's without disturbing the sterile soil if they were the killers, the Matpat Rat Pack constantly invading clips of the BWP to trumpet his BS theory never seem to have an answer, and go dark.
I really liked filmtheory's take on the original but it doesn't really match up with this sequel. The only way for it to kind of work would be if Heather becomes the blair witch. Taking on aspects of the original legend because it was related to her own death.
Ajay Paulose did you ever figure that Heather might have been feeding the guys to the witch just using oh I need your help to make a documentary to get them to the woods.
Interesting theory, but the guys seemed to be choosing where they went most of the time. Though if she's the one releasing the film then that would give her the ability to edit it somewhat to make it seem that way.
If you've seen the Grave Encounter movies, you pretty much understand what the Blair Witch does. I'm sure there's clues in the movie, maybe secret frames, but no one will really be able to dig in till the DVD comes out. I mean the original movie had a mockumentary, site, books, and even Book of Shadows had a scavenger hunt. There's always something more to the Blair Witch movies than the movie itself. Very curious what a sequel would be like though it might not happen. I'd guess it would have to be someone or a group venturing out trying to stop the witch, make it out of the Blair dimension, going deep into the mythology and answering a lot of questions. I just wanna know, is there a way to make it out of those woods alive or once you see the stick people you're fucked.
Yeah i got a huge Grave Encounters vibe watching this. With the house repeating floors, places leading back to the same place (tunnel scene), and the creature chasing after them just was batshit crazy just like GE. The Blair Witch can use time manipulation now, but how come in the first movie they kept seeing the light of day even after one night? I just would like more mythos and answers to the Blair Witch because this film only built on it just a tad more.
another excellent video, keep up the good work! You raised some good points, the thing that keeps coming back to me is Lane telling the story about how the witch wants revenge on the town people and that some of them moved away before the witch got them. What if the whole thing is the witches way of luring James family to her because they have roots in the old Blair town? Probably wrong but it's just an idea I have.
I considered this same kind of thing, but I thought of it more related to Lane. Because he is from the same town that the witch STILL wants revenge from. James and Co just get sucked in a result.
I found this movie was a wannabe and disrespectful to the 1999 movie. Hated: -the multiple camera angles -almost every new camera angle starts zoomed in and shaky -dumb jumpscares (who the hell sneaks up on a friend calling out their name for half an hour and just goes "hey...") -mostly bad actors & -they ruined a cool opportunity to do something interesting with the hover camera. literally like 3 short scenes. Liked: - - - & -
Agree on all points. This was just a waste of time and mostly a shitty rehash of the original. It failed to take any real advantage of being a found-footage film, and the documentary plot was completely lost after the first 20 minutes. Very cheap jump-scares and boring acting + a bunch of loud annoying screeching sounds coming from the camera at every cut scene. I wasn't the least spooked at any point, just either bored or baffled.
PMT's Slot Hit's n' Stuff They actually scared the actors in the woods without them knowing in the original Blair Witch. Which is why their acting looks so real
agree I was looking forward to seeing what the actual duce happened in that cabin in the original blair witch....nnnope just got stupid camera angles and obvious jump scares
I enjoyed every second of Blair Witch (2016), mainly because of its fan-made feel. It felt like fans had crafted this and it wasn't a desperate cash in. I may be wrong but the film is in my top for horror no doubt...
There's a scene in the original Blair Witch Project in which Heather finds a bundle of sticks with strands of Joshua's hair and shirt tied around it! When she opens it, you can vaguely make out eyes, teeth and fingers, obviously belonging to Josh!! Plus the figure that James sees in the room is Heather played by an uncredited Heather Donohue herself!!!
it's because it "ruined the imagination" because we never saw the witch, also the thing where the director said "No ThAt'S nOt ThE wItCh" because it has very clear evidence that it is. That's not my opinion though, i personally haven't watched any of it.
Im just disappointed that its been confirmed (apparently) that shes not the Blair Witch. I thought they were defo going down that rout on account of Lane's stating her limbs were stretched out at the beginning of the film. This tied perfectly in to the thin figure being Elly Kedward/Blair Witch :(
They weren't exactly correct in the video. The movie's writer said that long limbed creature was Elly Kedward, but she's not the actual Blair Witch. The real witch is a further unseen entity. www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/blair-witch-movie-ending-spoilers-theories
I hated the ending. I mean seriously, after she just witnessed her friend being attacked and probably killed for turning around, wouldn't the first thought in her head be "Maybe I shouldn't turn around."?!!!!
Another great vid! The mythology behind the Blair Witch is pretty interesting. Glad they didn’t just come out and say things. I like to hear and read up on fan theories
First i'd like to say this movie was terribly underrated. I know the first Blair Witch is considered a classic, but to me it was never scary. It was simply a mystery. I truly believe Heather was the one who lured Mike and Josh into the woods under the influence of the witch. Seeing as how Mike and Josh didn't look interested in going further, Heather assured them to keep going deeper into the woods. I think Heather was unknowingly being manipulated to lead the three into the woods, because she didn't really seem too concerned over knowing exactly where she was going. She KNEW she was lost. But I think at some point the witch let go of her influence. But as for the slender figure: to me it was Josh. Why? Josh's teeth and hair were found in the stick bundle Heather found outside the tent. We never got to see Josh in the rest of the original movie-but we heard his screams from the basement. Was he dead? Nobody can for sure say. You know Mike was in the corner, and obviously Heather got taken out. But I think that the missing teeth and hair goes perfectly with the gaping toothless mouth and hairless monster. Over time he'd become skinny, and his figure was larger than Heathers in the first place explaining his size. BUT THATS JUST A THEORY-A FILM THEORY
Interesting alternative canon, but obviously not in the line with the established canon. The skinny, long, tall creature that stalks that dimensional pocket is clearly suggested to be Elly Kedward. That's why the locals who guide them into the woods, who've read The Blair Witch Cult, explain that the original colonials who accused Elly Kedward of witchcraft hung her on a tree and weighed rocks on her limbs to stretch, and die... which sounds exactly like that thing shown in The Blair Witch.
I would argue that the onscreen evidence to suggest (if the creature is in fact a victim of and not Blair Witch herself) is Elly Kedwards is when Lane talks about the torture delivered to Elly by the colonials who accused her of witchcraft in the first place. The story telling is so well done in these movies that I don't believe that specific piece of information was put in their for no reason, especially since that description exactly fits the description of the creature.
9:20 Do you remember the story that Mary Brown told Heather and her crew about a lady whose body was fully covered by horse-like hair? Or when the fishermen loosely spoke about a lady whose feet never touched the ground? I was hoping they expand those little anecdotes for this new movie. It'd have been awesome and more horrific than the stupid rake-monster they finally made up.
That would have been better to expand on that than just omitting it altogether. I agree about the image of the witch being more on the side of the rake than an actual witch. I would have found her way more scarier if she actually looked more like a Haggerty old woman instead of the yellow limby rake thingy they went with. They could have at least dropped Spanish moss over the Blair witch for scarey old witch hair & added a tattered old ripped up skirt.
I think about this a lot concerning scary movies of this nature, but, what if you just send an entire army into the woods or like at least attempt deforest the entire forest itself, or maybe even nuke it blow it up whatever.
The story was scarier without any sequels. When it was still possible that there was no supernatural entity and the whole story was about two boys terrorizing and murdering heather.
MisterUnderMain Barely any theories are actually true. Didn't say I believed it. But it did make the story eerier than just some all powerful time witch fucking with people. Artistically it would have been a cool choice especially with how the original came out. Being advertised as real was the only thing that made the movie really special.
I preferred the original where they left you thinking whether it was actually real or not. They made you believe that the whole documentary could be a fake movie done by the kids, it was a plan for the boys to kill Heather, it was actually a cult hiding in the woods that hunt and kill those who enter and play it off like it's a witch or there was indeed a witch. I preferred the mystery aspect and the fact that they invoked fear into the audience without the need for cheap jumpscares. It was genuinely a good movie.
Was I the only one that noticed the tree that was said to have been struck by lightning where Lane had found the video tape was the same tree outside the house? You see this when Lisa is outside the house and she sees the creature and runs inside. If it is the same tree, it just proves how the witch manipulates the forest.
Heres a thought. What if slender witch, is actually Ellie Kedword, Meaning that Ellie is actually just an innocent innocent victem of circumstance like so many women were at that time. This would tie in with Lane's story, where Ellie was tied to a tree, and all her limbs were then weighted to stretch her as if she were made to be on the rack. And would also leave the opening that maybe the "Blair Witch" isnt a witch at all, but more over a fourth dimensional being (alien), and if it was so, it could quite possibly be speculated that this being would keep Ellie Kedword alive in some nature, form or fashion. And what if the Black Woods we see in the movie is actually a sort of terrarium maintained by this being we percieve as the "Blair Witch", on an an elevated plane of existence. We never really start to see any changes until after they spend the first night in the woods, with both the first and this movie. This would match up with the speculation that our characters are abducted, rather than just Mystically held in place. This would also lead to why the house still stands in this dimension, while in real life, it was burned to the ground years prior.
Connor Powell More or less what I got out of it, some sort of hellish, endless dimension they enter into at some point. Still interested into how the "tree root", as Simon Barrett put it, in Ashley's foot ties into all of this
Most of the clips I use ARE related to what I'm talking about, but yeah certainly missing some key stuff - because of course those aren't in the trailers. So, I'm open to it, we'll see
Thats some next level stand Control time Control a area physically Transform into a skinny pillar man Mimic menacing voices Edit:he said it wasnt the witch so it has to be her stand
Dude...I love the way you explain these things without criticizing it unrelentlessly to a point it becomes a drawn out rant, trying to put it down every way possible. Thank you for the open, thorough explanation you gave this, as I look forward to seeing this again when it comes out on blu-ray at midnight. =D Rock on. \m/\m/ Subscriber earned.
***** Yeah but clearly it's proven to be crap. Wow I'm amazed the whole point of a direct sequel is answer questions raised in the 1st movie not leave them unanswered. Other than that still a decent movie
Alicky Romanova The witch does exist really hard to say the theory is credible when a direct sequel shows the witch is real, and implies the witch has multiple victims.
And i hate wasting time watching a movie that doesnt make sense and gives you no awnsers to then have to go read the actual story of wtf i was just looking at on some website
I loved this movie. The final 15 minutes were the most intense moments I experienced in theaters, in recent memory. I don't understand the hate for this movie. It was, by no means, a perfect movie. But it was such a creepy movie and a worthy sequel to the Blair Witch Project, another movie that people either loved or hated. Hell, I even like Book of Shadows. I thought it was a good mindfuck movie, that had fun with the Blair Witch concept, on a very meta level.
I read on IMDB that Barrett made further remarks towards the identity of the (aptly nicknamed) "slenderwitch," saying that though it was not the actual "Blair Witch," the creature was Elly Kedward..which goes in line with the whole being stretched by rocks thing. Since the expanded mythos about the Blair witch indicated that the local Indian tribes considered the place to be evil looonng before Elly Kedward was around, I suspect Elly was just an early and long-held servant of the "Blair witch." I believe you were right on the nose about the actual BW not having a physical body, but rather being an evil presence condemned to those woods. It can control time and space within those woods, and any person who goes into the woods. Hell, we've been assuming one has to spend the night in the woods to be affected, but maybe that's not the case, as I got the impression Lane and Talia had never been in the woods after dark. And since you made a very strong case about Lane being under the influence of the BW since his initial visit and discovery of the tape, perhaps she can control anyone she chooses to, at any time. Good video btw :)
I really found some of your explanations matching what was going on in my mind! The time loop, tape from the future stuff, witch's show of power through light, etc. Though I find the Heather Slender witch theory awesome! Thanks for the quality stuff! I've done my part to help by subscribing your channel! Cheers!
I have a feeling the Blair Witch was killed in that forest a long long time ago and placed a curse over it and anyone who entered it. Back in those old days woods were essentially supermarkets, you'd go to them for food, hunting, gathering herbs and plants. So it makes sense the witch would curse that land. Eventually everyone moved away but the witch's curse evolved into something that lured people back in. She wanted revenge and continued to kill people. Or something like that.
Great video! I dont know why everyone is so hard on this film. I liked it and I understood the time warp of the woods. Maybe that went over peoples head's possibly?
Jayson Lima ah, well... I just can't stand the way they film these movies. I like the plot and all, but I get major headaches from this movie because of the whole "running while filming" thing.
So people are only hard on this film because they don't understand it? Or...now stay with me here...they're hard on it because it was absolute garbage. Shitty acting coupled with a predictable script and god awful jump scares. Not to mention the movie looked like it was filmed in a soundstage.
I love this movie, its so surprising and creepy and scary. I was actually kind of hoping for a different ending though....I mean come on!! Haven't these poor kids been through enough? Especially Heather's brother?
I feel like I'm one of the few people on earth who actually liked this movie when it and out. There's so many cool ideas introduced. I think the biggest holdup of it is that it is a Blair witch sequel. If it had been it's own thing, maybe people wouldn't have kept comparing it to the original.
hey foundflix! just wondering if you have seen matt pat's explanation of the original blair witch. I personally find the idea of two fanatical murderers messing with the main protagonist and killing her a lot more interesting and sinister than just some unexplained supernatural force being responsible for the events in the film. what do you think?
OYNG! Or, maybe the witch was controlling one of the guys. The other guy was In the corner for safety, so maybe he was controlled as well, but it is shown that she controls people's minds.
+Butt Stomper yeah but think about it, what thrills you more, the horrors of two people you trusted mentally toying and destroyin you, or some supernatural witch that can't possibly exist in real life?
Bishimgay I don’t think they had much of a choice but to go in the house cuz there apparently wasn’t a way out of the woods.. They were also curious about it and saw it as a lesser of two evils..
Okay so technically if you haven’t seen the Netflix new movie, “the tall grass” is like basically same thing, the villain was basically under control of the grass and the people who are stuck (are like those people who are lost in the woods) are the survivors and they are running away from him, like those two movies are like same connection. In the movie “the tall grass” you could see those grass figure people and I think those are the people who were humans once and yeah you get point also “bird cage” other movie, watch it and think about that. (It’s so cold in here 😖)
Another aspect of the forest being under her control: in the original, the group walks by the same fallen tree (& creek?) from hours earlier. That was the only part that gave me the heebies.
I think the biggest plot hole here is how did Lane even find the footage to begin with and how to make it out alive with the aforementioned footage? Seems unlikely...
I know what the slender creature is…in the movie they say that originally the witch was tied to a tree and left for dead with heavy rocks being tied to her arms and legs to make a makeshift “stretching rack” like was used back in old days as a form of execution. Basically your limbs are slowly pulled from their sockets and stretched till it kills you…but in the movie they said that when the townspeople went back to the tree where they tied the witch, it was no longer there. Someone suggests that maybe animals got to it and pulled it down and consumed the remains….which seems plausible until one of the group members point out that the witches body was not hung at the base of the tree…it was hung from way farther up on the tree so that gravity would help in pulling her limbs from her sockets after tying the huge stones on. Look at the the slender “witch”….it’s only body parts that are stretched are the arms and legs. It’s torso and neck are normal lengths. Which is exactly what would happen to a person who was hung up and stretched…which means the woman hung and stretched was not the actual witch. She was simply a woman who the old townspeople assumed was the witch because she lived on her own closer to the woods than the rest of the townspeople. She couldn’t be the witch itself because she would have stopped the people from executing her by hanging and stretching…. But she also could not have freed herself from the tree either. The only logical explanation is that they witch allowed her to blamed and allowed he to die painfully by stretching because she had every intention of using her as another one of her “helpers” like she did with Russ….
Another theory is that the new group is the noise heather josh and mike hear in the original due to the time bending
Bro! Mind= Blown right now...nice theory
I just seen the original....and dude i can't believe how right you could be
never thought about this. it could very well be true. but i figured the noises that were heard in both movies was the witch changing the topography of the land. snapping the trees in the process.
Interesting...
But that’s just a theory a Film theory!!!!
You just gotta throw the whole Forrest away

I heard this one story of a guy, who lived in the area where they shot the Blair Witch Project, and he was on the older side so he wasnt that fond of all the tourists and stuff showing up bothering everyone. So he'd go into the forest, set up rocks and stuff in weird patterns, and then leave, which managed to scare off some of the annoying tourists. Idk if its true but the thought it pretty funny imo
That’s would definitely have the opposite effect
What I hated about Blair Witch is that in the original + the faux-documentary is that the witch never ever manipulates people to come into the woods- if they enter, then it's fair play (and large groups are safe, as we see in the documentary when the police search & find the original tapes), but it seems ridiculous that she would want to time loop bs to get Heather's brother, who did not enter her land.
She probably got bored because everyone had come to their senses and avoided the damn forest and had to do the summoning herself.

Perhaps we get responsible teens who tell people where they're going. Find someone who can fight the supernatural abilities of the witch.
OMG. That is the perfect horror movie! But for real, done right, it could work!
So that explains why the cameratography was annoying as hell.

I was going to bring this up. This is woefully without vote or comment by anybody and that is a shame.
I- whatttt?
Great work
Can you provide a source for this?
My proof is that she had long limbs. Lane stated that they tied her high in a tree, and tied rocks to her hands and feet. So she was stretched
I think you're right. They probably brought this up in pre-production and said if there is any backlash "we can just say it isn't the witch".
Or it's Elly Kedward and she too was just a pawn of the force that is "The Blair Witch".
i think it is. it looked really long and lanky which matches up to the story they told in the movie where they hung up the women from her arms and tied rocks on her feet to stretch her to death

Odd that i never thought about that, makes sense as Rustin was basically the witches errand runner and did all the killing.
I know you made this comment 7 years ago. But I just watched the movie for the first time and wanted to look up videos on it. But back to the point this makes so much sense.

Exactly
So, really all the authorities need to do is do what Alfred did to find that bandit in Burma: "burn the forest down".
Commissar_Dan The Blair Witch dun goofed when she picked a forest. If she wasn't burned originally, she sure didn't keep herself from getting burned now.
The old townsfolk were probably using working scales, or a lighter duck.
lol smokey aint fucking with this forest
3:26 Ah, it wasn't made CLEAR in Blair Witch 1 that the Witch has control over the passage of time... but it was HEAVILY IMPLIED. You just had to read the back story on the actual Blair Witch Project website, here: www.blairwitch.com/project/mythology.html
The story according to the official website is that the duffel bag that contained the footage for Blair Witch 1 was discovered by anthropology students under the foundation of a house that was over a hundred years old.
🤔
Did he even notice the tree that was struck by lightning? It was the location of the found film and can be seen outside the house near the end
I´ll search for that movie
Yeah i got a huge Grave Encounters vibe watching this. With the house repeating floors, places leading back to the same place (tunnel scene), and the creature chasing after them just was batshit crazy just like GE. The Blair Witch can use time manipulation now, but how come in the first movie they kept seeing the light of day even after one night? I just would like more mythos and answers to the Blair Witch because this film only built on it just a tad more.
There must be a way to get out alive because someone found the original footage.
ninjaf00t
whoever found the footage didn't stay in the woods overnight
SawBlood45 No but they went into the woods so what's stopping the witch from fucking with them if it can mess with time?
another excellent video, keep up the good work!

Another great vid! The mythology behind the Blair Witch is pretty interesting. Glad they didn’t just come out and say things. I like to hear and read up on fan theories
That’s how you make a Cult Classic, leave viewers asking questions that are never fully answered
Interesting analysis
I dont know. The creature looked like a female thing. I got some pretty good screenshots, where you can see it.
Sophia Sabol I like the way you think
Interesting alternative canon, but obviously not in the line with the established canon. The skinny, long, tall creature that stalks that dimensional pocket is clearly suggested to be Elly Kedward. That's why the locals who guide them into the woods, who've read The Blair Witch Cult, explain that the original colonials who accused Elly Kedward of witchcraft hung her on a tree and weighed rocks on her limbs to stretch, and die... which sounds exactly like that thing shown in The Blair Witch.
how could the original not scared you? have you no soul?
Damm...the witch gengutsu is by far superior than itachi genjutsu,🤔🤔🤔
Hahahaha. The witches genjutsu is definitely far superior than itachi's but she doesnt have the mangekyou sharingan.
😂😂😂
Lel itachi would amaterasu the whole forest
Harish Sundararaman SUSANOOOO
think again sweetie
Who would win?
A Forest Witch that can manipulatie the forest and bend time and space.
Or
One small stick with potassium chlorate at the end?
Green Floyd The army would not believe them, and they wouldn't want to waste nukes
The story was scarier without any sequels. When it was still possible that there was no supernatural entity and the whole story was about two boys terrorizing and murdering heather.
Breaking news everyone:
Not everything that MatPat says it´s true :v
MisterUnderMain Barely any theories are actually true. Didn't say I believed it. But it did make the story eerier than just some all powerful time witch fucking with people. Artistically it would have been a cool choice especially with how the original came out. Being advertised as real was the only thing that made the movie really special.
I thought about that too xD
Still interested into how the "tree root", as Simon Barrett put it, in Ashley's foot ties into all of this
Can you please re-upload this once you can get the clips it would be nice to see what you are talking about when you are talking about it
You don't have to change the talking just add the clips in
Most of the clips I use ARE related to what I'm talking about, but yeah certainly missing some key stuff - because of course those aren't in the trailers. So, I'm open to it, we'll see
i love listening to him talking in the background and playing some chill video games after a long day of work:)

Slender witch might just be the Blair witch because she was stretched out while she was hanging on the tree.
Nvm I left this comment before the end of the video, but she still could punish her victims the same way she died.
I thin you are right, Lane did say that when they talked about the legends about the Blair witch.
Because that's how bodies work
In the original
There... Was... No... Witch...
The... Witch... Is... A... Lie...
Thanks for watching
Aaaaaand Cut-

Qirin Ezra Or, the witch was controlling one of the guys.

I saw MatPat's film theory before seeing Blaire Witch, and now I can only think that the two guide guys are faking it or something
Me too! 😂 i want answers!!!
Faking what exactly?
***** Yeah but clearly it's proven to be crap.
Wow I'm amazed the whole point of a direct sequel is answer questions raised in the 1st movie not leave them unanswered.
Other than that still a decent movie
Hugo Buckley same
Alicky Romanova The witch does exist really hard to say the theory is credible when a direct sequel shows the witch is real, and implies the witch has multiple victims.
Who else is watching this because they are too scared to watch the actual movie?
Harry 120 welcome to the club
Me too
✋
Harry 120 me
Its actually not scary
The reason the original was so good was the ambiguity/ having all of the definitive proof of the witch ruins the story of both movies
Nah. Too ambiguous plus actually it wasn’t cause the creators put lore on their website that
Explained a lot
Me too I like all 3 I think they should make a elly kwerd film
That shit that happened the Lanes girlfriend was so unexpected!! I just sat there in shock O.O
was that The chick who got her body snaped when the voodoo doll stick broke?
I think so
Right that made me jump so hard
well it was a voodoo doll that had her hair on it o.O
I literally Laughed my ass off at that part 😂😂 I was so *hilarious*
the witch is an alien! aha "i hope not" had me dying
I really found some of your explanations matching what was going on in my mind! The time loop, tape from the future stuff, witch's show of power through light, etc. Though I find the Heather Slender witch theory awesome! Thanks for the quality stuff! I've done my part to help by subscribing your channel! Cheers!
can I just say I love your vids man 💜💜
Thank you!
Whoa that's creepy that footage was them in the future?😶😶😶😶
Great video! I dont know why everyone is so hard on this film. I liked it and I understood the time warp of the woods. Maybe that went over peoples head's possibly?
Jayson Lima ah, well... I just can't stand the way they film these movies. I like the plot and all, but I get major headaches from this movie because of the whole "running while filming" thing.
that was my only beef with this movie too much shaking, i found it to be a tad disorienting myself. I liked it overall.
So people are only hard on this film because they don't understand it? Or...now stay with me here...they're hard on it because it was absolute garbage. Shitty acting coupled with a predictable script and god awful jump scares. Not to mention the movie looked like it was filmed in a soundstage.
Jayson Lima I guess they don't know greatness when they see it bro that's why.
Yeah people are hard to please. I went in with no expectations and enjoyed it
They need to make this an episode of supernatural
I've actually heard a similar theory! Its from 2008, I think! Dude really predicted the future film lol
Is there a video of that?
Farldie Manie Yep! I've been looking for it
TetsuoIVIX pls link when you can.
was it the time travel theory? Maybe what you've read was mine since i've been writing that in many blogs and you tubes for quite a few years now
King Sean Yes!! Probably was, I've been looking for it for so long now
I love this movie, its so surprising and creepy and scary.
I was actually kind of hoping for a different ending though....I mean come on!! Haven't these poor kids been through enough?
Especially Heather's brother?
Well he's a dumbass, deserved his fate
I feel like I'm one of the few people on earth who actually liked this movie when it and out. There's so many cool ideas introduced. I think the biggest holdup of it is that it is a Blair witch sequel. If it had been it's own thing, maybe people wouldn't have kept comparing it to the original.
hey foundflix! just wondering if you have seen matt pat's explanation of the original blair witch. I personally find the idea of two fanatical murderers messing with the main protagonist and killing her a lot more interesting and sinister than just some unexplained supernatural force being responsible for the events in the film. what do you think?
OYNG! Same tbh
same. It makes sense.
OYNG!
Man I love your music. WTF, never thought to see you 'round here.
I'm thinking slendy witch is Heather
UPgrader1134 ... slendy witch heather... HUH???¿!
Decker and a Saint he probably means that the witch possessed heather then made her the new "slender witch"
Bishimgay I don’t think they had much of a choice but to go in the house cuz there apparently wasn’t a way out of the woods.. They were also curious about it and saw it as a lesser of two evils..
Do Final Destination, a lot of people would love to see a ending explained of any of the 5 movies and I would definitely love to see one.
You deserve so many subscribers !
Thank you. This video was better than the actual movie WOW LOL Great Job
That was explained really well! I am glad that I watched this. To bad about Heather, I was hoping at least her brother would make it out alive.
Exactly. It's not a smart story. It's just convoluted
"...and Lane's back one more time, to get a knife in the neck from Lisa..." Very visual and clear narrative :)
