      Do 🔭 telescope peak in death valley. Fairly easy 11,000 ft mountain with incredible views of the Sierras and the highest peak in continental US Mt Whitney in view, 14,000+ ft, and turn your head180°, then the lowest point in North America bad water 282 ft bow sea level. I did that hike in 1985 when I was in my 30s

    It's been about 15 years maybe, but I've been up there. It was much clearer that day and the trail wasn't clearly marked at all. But what a view from the top. The hardest part for me, and this is always the case with me, was the trip back down. Something about going downhill just wears me out.

    • @MattCookOregon
      @MattCookOregon  4 года назад

      Nice. I did some online reading saying how hard the trail was to follow, must have been very old info. Interesting I usually don't take a single break going down and it seems easy. But going down is what gets me sore later with all that impact.

      Matt.Cook.Oregon yes I did Whitney about 1987, medium difficulty. My name is in the book up there. Or maybe 20 books ago it’s pretty much a two day hike. I would have liked to climb half dome in Yosemite but it’s too crowded and annoying. It’s a cable grabbing climb, with dozens of people going up and down the whole way. If you’re up for a seriously amazing little trip go do the devils chair hike in Palmdale cal. There are videos on RUclips check them out. Easy one day hike views of edwards Air Force base and high desert

    20 years ago I took a road trip from Southern Cal up to the Bend, OR area. I was just driving around one day and saw what, from that angle, looked like a perfect volcanic cone. I thought "what is that?!". So I went to the Bend Barnes and Noble (no phones with internet back then) and found out what it was and got some info on hiking it. The next day I set out by myself and without telling anyone where I was going (I'm a loner anyways). I never saw anyone else on the mountain. I only went as far as the start of the ridge leading to the summit but I jumped over so many rocks and boulders, I was lucky to not sprain an ankle at the least. I had a cell phone but I don't even know what kind of reception I would have gotten if I needed it. I would love to go back some day and make it to the summit.

      Nice. My xbox name was moon princess. I would def not free climb hood, too many deaths there. Thielsen and Broken Top are the scariest things I would free climb personally. Sounds like a solid summit I am jealous.

      @@MattCookOregon Well, there was no indication of any warm up before the stretching. Most people would think they show up at the trailhead after driving (cold muscles), stretch and go hiking, which again is not good and which is something most people may take from this video.
