That was Pleasant Matt, the style of filming and narration made one feel like they were trekking it themselves or right along with you. I think I got Physiologically winded from that excellent way you presented this climb. Thanks man and thanks for the IG notification. A Grand day to Ya Pal. ... Shared!
Thank you Mike! I definitely enjoy going with my own style. I am glad you got some immersion from it as that is one of my main goals with video making.
Great video! Brings back memories from 45+ years ago. My Dad took me and my sister up Bailey a few times, but we came up from a trail on the west side off of an old logging road and came out on the north side of the summit. Back then there were still small bits of items from the old lookout tower that used to stand at the summit. There are pictures of the tower to be found with a google search.
@@MattCookOregon It really did look pretty much as I remember it, yes. and of course the views. Always worth the hike. A snowmobile trip would be fun to try. That is very pricey.
Haha oops I didn't edit all of that out? It was decent but towards the end I felt a bit bad for the dog on the hot rocks. It was only 80 degrees so could have been much worse.
While stationed in Germany, we often hiked in the Alps. We often asked ourselves what we were thinking until reaching our destination. It was worth all the pain and discomfort and some scary areas. Enjoy it while you can. You have an uncanny ability with the camera, the sites and safety tips. Thank you for sharing your Oregon.
Thanks for all the nice comments Sharon. That is the key to tough adventures, either enjoying the journey there or realizing that the hard work is worth it.
Stunning summit and that’s one happy dog! We fully agree you must enjoy the summit as long as possible. We just summited the Lassen NP Cinder Cone with the three kiddos this weekend and the views of the surrounding lakes, lava fields and the surreal painted dunes were epic. If you venture this far south don’t miss it!
Thanks Rob. This is definitely the limit on the dogs mountain trips. The rocks get a bit too hot for her. That looks like a nice spot in NorCal. I should try it, a whole new map to explore.
Ashoka in the snow 😍 Love it, and the fact that you took her, means I get to take my Woof. A goal now the next time I’m out that way. Another great video, thanks for sharing.
I was actually on the other side of Diamond Lake at the viewpoint last Wednesday I was heading to Watson Falls but the road was closed a few miles past the turn off to the viewpoint due to the Jack Fire!
Thanks Jason. I usually don't get to drone off mountain summits since they are in wilderness. This one wasn't wilderness so I was excited to finally do it.
@@MattCookOregon I was down in that area last weekend and was actually surprised to see did that hike, I assumed the smoke would have been really bad but overall didn't look too smokey! I haven't done many hikes the past two years as my pup your his ACL and now we're pretty limited on distance. I'll enjoy your hikes.
@@MattCookOregon Hah, I started riding that snowcat in the late '90's when seats were only $100. Since then up until OZ died I must've ridden that Cat over 100 times. But it was always in the winter. Loved seeing your footage.
I did this trail at the end of April. It was still covered in snow then and looked so much different. We didn't make it all the way to the summit because the snow didn't seem stable on the ridge, but after seeing your video we definitely need to go back.
I always tell myself Ice cream, Slurpee, soda... Over and over especially when you ran out of water even before your made it to the peak.. Lol. It helps for the several hours hike down, back to civilization.
You mentioned in the video that you hiked in July but what day of the week and time of day did you go? The reason I ask is because it doesn't appear that you ran into any other hikers, which is nice - you have the whole place to yourself.
@@MattCookOregon That's great to know - my son and I are planning on hiking Bailey and also Thielsen this summer. I enjoy your videos - they are informative and to the point.
So should I do a video on Thielsen?
YES PLEASE YESSSSS
yes since it's in the area!

What a great Dog!
I have read that Bailey is one of the younger cascades volcanoes.
She is the best! Always sticks around. Especially when tired on a trail.
What a hike man that's some beautiful scenery!!!!! Oregon is such a beautiful State filled with mystery 😍
Thanks Pam. It is the best thats why I never leave haha.

Thank you. Wow that is ages ago. Probably looks about the same? I wish I had boat loads of cash so I could pay the 2000$ snow cat ride up.

Love the Breath of Wild vibes. Great information!
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks again for your video on this place. Any good videos coming up?
Just got home from hiking this on July 19th. 10/10 would hike again. 👍🏼
Nice you were just a week after me.
Great video! It is helping my son and I plan our trip to make this climb later this summer!
Thanks. That is nice to hear. Hope you have a happy summit.
Been to the summit on a snowmobile several times. BREATHTAKING
Wow. Sounds nice. I gotta get me one of those!
Good job and the drone shots really added to your story.😀👍
Thanks Lynn. Yes the completely different camera angles always add so much.
Thanks for sharing and nice drone shots! I have been wanting to climb Bailey and this is a great resource!
Thank you. It is one of the few big mountains I am allowed to drone from. Hope you get to try it.
Looks like a great hike. Thanks for sharing your hike!
It is and I highly recommend it for those wanting to train or get into mountains.

Yeah that fire is a big bummer. Will be interesting to see after its done. Looks like it hasn't touched the popular waterfalls.
Enjoyed the video! Excellent content. I got a kick out of watching your hiking companion. It looked like a great time.
Thanks John. It was a nice time. I would start earlier next time to save my friends feet from getting too hot.
Love those aerial shots. Really enjoyed the video and the territory Matt. Really cool 👍🏻👍🏻

AHSOKA!!! oh Hey Matt great shots !
Thanks Becky! I am happy to be her camera man.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Likely to give it a try next summer based on your video.
Thank you. If you got $2000 to burn you can pay the sno cat to drive you up in winter!
That thought has crossed my mind for sure!@@MattCookOregon
Nice hike and beautiful views!
First comment! Thanks. I am happy to get back to the mountains. Hope to do a couple more.

Great drone shots and narration. Used to snowboard up there alot. That mountain with out snow on it is amazing.

Some task Matt!! Gorgeous views,,the aerial shots were amazing!! Way to go on a successful hike!! Beautiful dog btw!! Enjoyed this, well done!!👍
Thanks Bushlore. The dog is a great partner. Not often you get to launch a drone from on top of a mountain.
@@MattCookOregon … You’re welcome!! 👍
I didn't know Bailey was a shield volcano, even after a year of Geology courses, you'd think I'd know that! Thanks for sharing Matt.

Love your videos! The PNW is great
Thanks Jaime! I am a big fan of our lands. I keep finding new stuff every year too.
Love your video, thank you
Thank you! Did you try this mountain yet?
Another superb video🌟Love the narration, music and of course beautiful Ahsoka. How about Mt.Thielson sometime?
Thanks Brooke! I think Thielsen is the next mountain video. I did a video on it 5 years ago but it was terrible.
@@MattCookOregon I certainly cannot believe 5 years ago you would be doing terrible videos😌
hi bro its been a while that mountain is amazing its soooooo pretty there bad air tho
Hello mr Ball. It is a nice one. I got to enjoy it before the smoke rolled in fortunately.
Matt, can you add when you did the hike? It helps with knowing what the trail conditions could be like at a certain time of year.
Good idea. It was a week ago so like July 15th.
Nice! Dog had a great time rolling in snow. Does dog look forward to "adult beverages" too, or maybe doggie beverages? (Beef or chicken broth).
This was a fun one. Snuck away from family for the day to get a summit in. Ahsoka enjoys some meat juice on occasion, or just some meat and bones.
Needed a dose of Matt, been a while
Thanks mr Poo! Lighthouses kept me busy and now it is time to get back to mountains.
I have been there, but I did it in winter on a snowmobile.
Sounds great. Would like to get a ride up and snowboard down. I saw they do a sno cat service but its like $2k.

Nice. Got to have that motivation. Burger and beer here!
@Matt.Cook.Oregon Have you hiked Cone Peak? Wouldlove to see that one.
Don't think so. What do you like about it?
The wild flowers and the views at the Iron Mountain summit. There is a lovely deck for the view.
Hey Matt, me and my cousin were planning on doing this hike in the next week or two and we wanted to know if there is alot of scree while climbing up
Hi. I think it is pretty tame as far as big mountains go. The worst scree is @5:27 and it isn't that bad.

Can a person spend a night on the summit.that was very 😎 beautiful scent I would love doing that.
No rules against it but super windy and no cover. South sister is a nice overnighter cause its summit is huge and has rock forts on top.
