    Dr Gary Fettke
    Whilst evidence accumulates that high carbohydrate diets are associated with increased rates of obesity and diabetes, there is growing evidence that a range of other conditions including dementia and cancer may also have their origins in high carbohydrate diets. In this presentation I will present the scientific evidence as it currently is, linking high carbohydrate diets especially with a high content of cereals and grains, with a range of medical conditions. The evidence suggests that nutritional factors may play a much greater role in human ill-health than is currently appreciated or taught in our Institutions.

    I've lost 45 lbs this year. It's been a natural, unhurried, non-stressful lifestyle change. NOT a diet so much as a relief from obsessing about calories and exercise. I've been normally active, no anaerobic activities. I just stopped eating sugar, fruit, carbs, processed foods and vegetable oils. That leaves me with foods I've always loved but denied myself, wrongly, in the mistaken beliefs handed to us by the ADA, AMA, WeightWatchers and other 'trusted' dinosaurs. This video is a great reinforcement, reminder, "revival" of what I've found to be true. Good to watch it before the holidays! Another 30 to go in the coming year. I feel fantastic!

    Great presentation balanced and insightful. I have been doing keto for three years and my last blood profile was excellent. Having reversed type 2 Diabetes I also have never felt better in my life at 72 years of age!!

      Check out Gary's talks, and those of his wife, Belinda. They will tell the story of how he was banned for life from speaking about reducing sugars to his surgical patients ... an order that has recently been rescinded.

      Yep, I first came onto this stuff from that anti-wrinkle cream guy, Dr Pericone. It's no secret!
      He was onto anti-inflammatory eating (salmon for 1st meal) and cell plasma membrane protection, etc - in the 90's.
      It's only a secret to the medical industrial complex and their victims.

    Bread used to be the plate in medieval times: 'A trencher (from Old French tranchier; "to cut") is a type of tableware, commonly used in medieval cuisine.       yes fruit juices are evil; however fresh organic fruit is great for your body. The key to health is rather FASTING! Learn about intermittent fasting. Best you go for OMAD or Warrior diet. That'll really get you healthy.

    I've gone back to eating the food s I grew up with (lard , home made bakery made with my grandparents recipes) so 6 months of this and all my blood work was in the excellent leavel s and I was on at of a massive heart attack and or a massive stroke. They wanted to put me in the hospital at that time.

    I've heard that high sugar plant products will spike your blood glucose levels, but it just takes 15 to 30 minutes longer than refined or processed carbs. So the "fiber makes it ok" story doesn't really hold up. High carbs are high carbs.

      Actually, it you do not have a functioning or well functioning pancreas then spikes in sugar can last hours and never go back down to normal before your next meal. Fiber may neutralize the sugar a bit but not enough. So his theory does hold up. He just has more experience was a vast array of metabolic issues.

    I have been diabetic since 2014 trying to beat it with alternative methods,but this information has put a whole new meaning to what I am trying to achieve.This might sound like a dumb question but is there a chart of the carb. I should avoid. I am from New Zealand, is there a way I could communicate with you directly?

      It would be best for you to invest in a blood glucose monitor and find out which foods that contain carbs spike your blood sugars.
      If you have the means try using a CGM.

    He missed a crucial point about the Blue Zones. On average 65% of their calorie intake is carbohydrate (unrefined). The difference between refined and unrefined carbohydrates cannot be understated. In fact, the Okinawans, a population that commonly lived into their 100's (before McDonald's moved in), ate 80% of their calories from carbs (mostly sweet potatoes).
    As for fructose, it is really only a problem in the context of processed food. Dr. Gregor from nutrition facts.org, cites a studies where the study subjects ate something like 30 pieces of fruit per day and they were just fine. No issues with blood sugar or weight gain. I do agree that the refined carbs and processed oils should be eliminated. No argument against that.

      He says that three together cause the problems. Refined carbs, sugars, and vegetable oils. The people in blue zones can handle a lot of carbs because they are not doing the sugars and the vegetable oils. Plus they get a lot of sun, and Vitamin D helps cut down the toxicity in their bodies. I would add that they also get a lot of omega 3 fats from sea food so that balances out their fats.

      High fructose foods convert to uric acid. Eating too much fruit caused my gout, so I only eat a small amount of fruit and that definitely helps

      Eat carnivore. Saw my health improve after 2 weeks and steadily improve more and more over the last 12 months. Every nutrient is found in meat and animal products and you avoid all the inflammatory foods. Fruit and veg are a waste of time, cultures world wide only produced them due to the difficulties of keeping meat fresh all year round and so filling the gaps with low grade foods such as grains, fruits and vegetables was a necessity. No longer. Eat meat and avoid sugars. You get all the necessary glucose from protein and fats make up the rest of your energy requirements.

    I’ve watched other Gary’s videos before. I caught the point around 30:00 …. We build our babies out of the inflammatory stuff. In utero!! His momentary pause was perfect.
    Thought this for awhile myself after I was reading a study about nutrients that pass through the umbilical cord and the brain barrier to the fetus. Often had wondered about the lack of omega 3 fats for proper fetal brain development.
    The flip side I didn’t fully ponder. Lots of inflammatory junk doing damage. Sugar spikes contributing to childhood obesity and increased the likelihood of T1DM. It’s a wonder that there is all sorts of childhood problems these days.

    Dr Jason Fung says eating carbohydrates WITH FIBRE (whole fruits) does not spike your insulin levels. The fibre protects against the fructose.
    Im sticking the way I am. I make my own bread with whole grain, eat whole plant foods and eat plenty of whole fruits, which im not giving up... or i'll be back on the chocolate :)
    … although unfortunately I live in Ireland, and we don't get much sun over here.

      I was a chocolate (dairy milk) addict for 35 years and ate 2 slices of bacon nearly every day at work for my breakfast, until I found out they sprayed nitrate on it. Now im on a whole plant food diet with a bit of salmon or a small steak every now and then.
      Unfortunately I agree with you, chocolate and bacon do rule :(

      You are pissing into the wind. If you are insulin resistant carbs will spike your insulin levels regardless of fiber. Fiber helps it a bit, but it will still spike. Your "whole grain" bread is really little more than glucose. The nutrition in it is next to nothing. Also, you state that your mind is closed about fruits, so I don't even know why you are watching.

      Im only just starting down this nutrition path, so I believe in watching everything to get all sides of the story. I don't really think just following certain diets that restrict most foods would be sensible, as I believe a range of foods would contain more health benefits. Healthy populations around the world eat a range of foods, and most of them seem to have high carb diets, fruits and veg with small amounts of clean meat/fish.
      And I think its just common sense to eat fruit!
      As for grains, well, people have been eating grains and making bread for 5000 years and it never led to health problems. I use whole grains that are crushed in a traditional mill with mill stones that release mineral's out of the stone into the flour. Whole grains with nothing removed are packed with nutrition.

Just because you really want fruits to be healthy, simply doesn't mean they are for all of us. Fruits were simply not available, at least not often for millions of humans who were evolving. Your title is jesus so if you are one of those simpletons who think the world is 6000 years old I won't waste my breath on you. IF you are insulin resistant at all, you will quickly find what works for you. If I eat many carbs in any form at all, my weight jumps right back up to obese, and it happens in a hurry. Good luck.

      Bread was made in a much more natural way,ancestors were thin ,coz they worked hard in harsh conditions.didnt have cars ,central heated houses.dental care etc etc etc.

    I don't care which diet is used so long as it reverses the disease and gives people gr8 health. Most of keto includes meat. So what about climate change and factory farming?

      Yes John, what about it?
      If climate change is a concern, then nuclear power is the carbon-free answer.
      If Factory Farming is an issue, then that applies equally to fruits, vegetables, the grain industry in addition to the meat industry.
      The question should be what is ideal for human health. The rest is nonsense and irrelevant if food is making humans sick with chronic illness.

      I haven't eaten processed food in years D.B. I quit sugar about a 5 weeks ago, but im not quitting grains as I don't think theres any problem with home made bread. Im not quitting potato's or rice ethier :)

      I have to agree. Annoying habits distract from and diminish important messages. There was a woman who did a Ted talk and paced back and forth incessantly. The camera man just pivoted left, right, left right. Hard to watch. Lip smacking is like fingernails on chalkboard. You are all adults. Stop it.

      Until you mentioned it, I didn’t hear the constant mouth noises. But you are right about that repetitive tic. And yes it is annoying. I remain impressed however by anyone who attempts public speaking. It’s hard to do well, I find. So good on those who give it a go! 👍

      Yep his main argument against starch is that it a) tastes bland and b) makes you fat. Well a) i think it tastes no more bland than unflavoured meat and b) i certainly am not fat and neither are the thousands of athletes normally on high carb low fat diets.

      @@dantheman1337 - Respectfully, I think you're missing the point of this entire series of lectures. If you're Insulin Sensitive, and thriving on your carbohydrate heavy diet? Bravo. Good for you! Truly. Did you perhaps miss the point that processed carbohydrates are contraindicated for those with Insulin Resistance (incidentally these are also people commonly suffering with metabolic disease). We're human beings, not cans of beans, ie we're not all metabolically identical. I would respectfully suggest that as HUGE percentages of the world have been eating the S.A.D - like you apparently - and are dying of metabolic disease, mayhap those that are Insulin Resistant need a different dietary model.

      Yes mate, they all end up as glucose, just at different rates. Plant based diets can frequently be high in Polyunsaturated fatty acids too ("vegetable" seed oils). The combination of high carb and PUFA is a great way to fast track yourself to atheroscherlosis.
