Happ (Also known as Happ Controls) was an American company that later merged with Suzo in 2005 where they later became Suzo HAPP and started producing their products in China which are relatively cheap quality. Industrias Lorenzo is the company that picked up where HAPP left off in 2005 and purchased the molds from original HAPP Control and produces their products in EU with much higher quality, especially in the joystick field.
Great job with this mod! It seems like you really improved the function, feel, and sound, of that panel! I run Suzo-Happ buttons myself and I love them, they're what I'm used to since I'm from the US. Big like!
Yea it makes a huge difference, can't go back to those cheap buttons anymore. From the moment i had the MVSX I knew they had to be removed. Next up are the joysticks!
I own both Happ buttons and iL buttons and there's little to no difference between the two quality wise. What really matters is the microswitch. I highly suggest removing the springs from the buttons if you don't like a lot of button travel. Removing the springs makes Happ/iL buttons very comparable to Sanwa/Seimitsu but still having an American button feel. The Springs only purpose is for button tension. The Microswitch has a spring in it already and by removing the springs....it removes the middle man and you'll have instant contact between the button and switch.
I put a raspberry pi4 in mine running batocera. Joystick encoder from a xarcade tank stick. I can hook up a Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 via adapters. But it’s annoying, so I’m thinking to go back to stock MVSX running HyloX. I only really play Robocop anyway.
Yea i didnt want to make a RP arcade machine, just wanted to keep it running arcade stuff with HyloX and Usagi. Not really a fan of having it run everything like RetroArch, would be to cluttered. HyloX is more than fine on the MVSX, but i do would like a SNES option on there.
Great video but you don’t have to unscrew the very bottom screws to pull out the main console. Only the top 3. Just trying to save you time if you have to go back in.
I ordered an MVSX finally and I want to hopefully use sanwa screw-in buttons after making the button holes bigger. Can anyone tell me the height of the button holes? Or at least the length of the original buttons the MVSX comes with? I googled around, but have yet to find the original button dimensions.
Just to add if the buttons and sticks were better quality the cost of the mvsx machine would be a lot more my recommendations for the joysticks are semitsu ls40 fastener type also get the octagonal restricter gate huge difference compared to a sanwa
I think a lot of people would've shilled out a few more bucks to get better quality buttons. Unico is selling this machine also to enthousiasts, so they should've know better. I'm doing the joysticks one by one, but I am going to use two different type of sticks for both players.
I realize that a lot of neo geo retro gamers are buying the mvsx, which is great, but there is not enough people to cater to that market, most of the hardcore neo geo fans prefer real hardware. Therefore to make it affordable and compete with arcade 1up unico had to cut costs, to be honest alot of people enjoy modding installing sticks & buttons, remember this is a starter cabinet. We are all waiting for the next big thing unico will produce. The next cabinet will be even better.
@@neovlad1831 yea I was contemplating on whether I should make my own bartop for a while (I made my own a couple of times years ago) but then this option came out. There are many (original) ways to play the Neo Geo catalogue, but as I wanted an Arcade cabinet, this stood out for me as the better option. I'm waiting for the Sega Astro City cab as they teased, with the Unico rep on FB saying it'll be released during fall.
What I find so puzzling abotu the MVSX is why in the hell it has a six button Capcom style control layout. I wondr if anyone makes a custom control panel that features a proper horizontal four button layout?
I have no idea what their intentions were. But, it's kinda neat, because with the ROM packs, these other buttons are laid out for those games that use six buttons. It's possible to make another control panel, though that would cost an arm and leg to make it nice and clean looking.
i got a custom neogeo layout on etsy for my 1up cab 😇 $80 came with acrylic overlay as well v nice i like the neomvsx layout bc you can remap the keys to be neocd layout way comfier for the KoF titles

OK thanks for the info. I doubt these are almost 20 year old buttons (they are brand new) so they must be the HAPP Control ones.

@@fistbumpbros AWESOME, I'm excited to see what you end up using.
Already ordered them, will be in next week. It'll take some time to mod and film though.

Thanks for the info. The stock buttons just suck, so every other brand is already an upgrade. But ill remember that tip, thanks!

You can easily remove them when you uplift the panel like i did in the video. Shouldn't be hard to measure it up once its opened.
