Fellow 280Z friend, we were literally working on the same area of our car at the same time last year. Yes it was a pain but I was able to get it done before the new year started. Great video and great progress so far on your car man, hope we get these things done soon and back on the road... No video here but a lot of pics for future story telling.. FYI, I highly advise getting the car mechanically stripped, right after my metal work was done I started stripping my car with paint stripper, it worked very well and came off easily on days when the temperature was higher but still took a few days to get all the metal clean.
I am so glad you decided to do this and film it because I’m gonna pretend to know what I’m doing when I tackle this part on mine and at least I have something to refer back to so thank you! 😬
Hey man glad to see your back at it and healed up!! Just wanna say I love the series I remember watching your buyers guides videos when I was picking out my z project. Your recent videos inspired me to get back at it and finish my restoration!
haha if I could go back 3 years... I'd slap the F*(k out of myself for buying a rust bucket but also a hug for being dumb enough to start on this wonderful, painful, depressing, and exciting journey.
@@RestorationForBeginners haha well hey in the end you'll have one of probably handful of completely, without a doubt, rust free datsuns in the country! Also your results are nothing short of amazing for beginner, your research and commitment is paying dividends right now.
having to show what I'm doing publicly is kind of an amazing motivation to at least look like I know what I'm doing =) Best of luck with your restoration as well.
Looking great. Metal work is always tedious and extremely time consuming. I'm doing rockers, frame rails, inner rear wheel wells, etc. Sometimes i will even end up making a piece 2 or 3 times before it's actually good enough to use. good thing sheet metal is cheap and i'm only wasting my "time" and not paying ridiculous amounts of money for something i can do myself with time and patience. Keep up the great work.
I do the same thing, making the same piece multiple times sometimes. The lesson that I had to learn through mistakes was that, whenever I cut corners or try to work too fast, 9 times out of 10 I end up regretting it. Just gotta relax, listen to some music, and take your time.
I love the channel and the effort and the balls to the wall fuck it let's go attitude. There's just a part of me that worries this car ain't never gonna hold together after all this! Fingers crossed for you.
You're doing great man. I'm hoping to start a renovation on my uncle's '78 280Z once I move to Richmond in the summer. Thanks for this series. Between yours and George Karellas, it's motivational to see how deliberate and methodical you have to be when doing this sort of work. It's not easy, and you can get frustrated quicky, but you just gotta keep making small progress. Keep it up man!
Thanks Ron, convincing myself to head to the garage after a long day of work is really the tough part... Once I'm in there time flies and I have a little fun.
Great job brother 👍,,, almost done with my Z ,,,take your time,,you're doing great,, restoring mine in the garage too,,,in the end it will be worth it and you will have a valuable car,,,that's sky rocketing in value that has a beautiful look,,
Hey great work man! You're welds are getting way better and you're making great progress with what you have. Now go get yourself some body hammers for Christmas and quit using that framing hammer, LOL. Glad to see you back and look forward to the next update.
hey bud just put the engine and trans back in my friends' 240 today. funny I come home and see this video. maybe i should get back to work on my own Z! that surprise better not be a honda CRX, because I just got one
Ok so worth a shot lol. If you could possibly help, I just recently converted over to a pertronix and the tach no longer works. Have no idea why, it worked before but not any more. Any suggestions?
It’s super sad for me to see that you’ve changed to subtitles instead of voice overs. I’ve been gone for a while last time I watched your videos on was just after you posted episode 12 and was really enjoying them but I got busy. I’m dyslexic so reading is really hard for me and when I found your channel I was super happy to see that it wasn’t just basically repairing things asmr like most videos. But keep up the good work it’s nice to see that it’s progressing well and that your channel is expanding. :)
You know, I'd keep watching. I sometimes switch to captions because there's nothing too critical to explain, but I switch back to voiceovers if there is. If I'm captioning, it means it's pretty self explanatory.
@@RestorationForBeginners oh no i feel you got me wrong I still fully plan to continue watching im way too invested in seeing this project completed and look forward to other videos :)
I think it's called a panel prep tool. It's not actually straightening the sheet, it's making a bend so that you can overlap two sheets together and weld them flush.
Your learning curve, progress is coming along well
Your channel is the best DIY example of how to restore a Datsun S30 model. Keep up the great work!!

Looking good! I’d recommend the hammer and dolly set from harbor freight for creating curved patch panels.
looks like your welding is getting better and better! like pro!!
Yeah, it's gettin there. Getting a feel for correctly adjusting the voltage and the wire speed took a while, but I think I am improving.
Just got a 260z and need to go through the same process. Thank you.

Incredible man!! .Motivating for me. I need to get back on the rust repair on my wifes 240z now!

keep going man! i love that you document everything, lots of people are gonna watch your whole series in the future the more it comes to completion!
I honestly hope they don't, I did some pretty dumb stuff earlier in the series that I'm cringing at haha

Great work Min. So happy my floor pas only needed a few patches when I see how much work it is to replace them :)
nice work bro, love the music, keep it coming,

Let's go!
It's not skyrocketing in value though (unless he has a 240z). Also if you are doing this the car going up in value shouldn't be a consideration
Yes you are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks great. Nice work!

hahaha what, you don't like my $8 hammer?
Yay! Is my man's back with another wegio!
I work in retail so I got busy prepping for holiday season, but now I'm back!
@@RestorationForBeginners ah. Gotcha. I actually had my interview at a new job today. Anyways. Glad to have you back. Take care!
You too! Best of luck with that man
When your project goes from build to restoration 😅

what were those little squares that you used to mock/hold the panels in place?

@@kristianmcilroy8292 awesome. much more exciting updates coming this year I hope!
You’ve acquired some awesome metal fabrication tools over the last year. I liked that pneumatic straightener clamp thing, what’s it called?
I think it's called a panel prep tool. It's not actually straightening the sheet, it's making a bend so that you can overlap two sheets together and weld them flush.
Restoration For Beginners ahhh I see! Thanks :)
Its a pneumatic flange tool, some have the flange tool on one side and an air punch to punch plug weld holes on the other.
Mike Beck gonna have to get me one of these! Rust repair coming on my Datsun soon
Does welding make the structure at least as strong as when it was in one piece? I'd be terrified of weakening the wrong bit!
I wouldn't be able to do all this lol. That's why I'm paying 15k for a mint one.
Why does this have so few views
