    With wool you should let the water cool down as much as possible so you don’t damage the wool. You also wanna press out the water rather than wring it out so you don’t damage it.

    Looks good. If you end up not liking it, you can give it to your father in law as a birthday present 🤣 He’ll never recognize it! 👍🏻

    Your sweater turned out nice. It is a nice colour there now. My mom used to dye sweaters the same way. Seems pretty easy to do but time consuming with the stirring. Thanks for posting this one.....Take care, Bluefin.

    But hot water damages wool. How do you do this?

      Yah man 👍
      I lost some of the rinsing footage but you can put in the washer on delicate and cold water to final rinse.

    Seems like a lot of work! I probably just buy a brown sweater :) Information was good. I doubt I'd ever do it because I'm lazy AF -- but if I ever do, I will refer to this video again. I could use a "candy thermometer" though (if that's what you said) & if that measures how much candy I've eaten during a day. Thanks.

    I'm a little concerned about dying wool in 80-100 degrees, where you normally should wash wool in 30. Does it damage the fabric?

    Hmmmm....🤔 I picked up a Lands End fleece vest awhile back that's a lite tan brown. I'd like it to be darker. I might have to try this. Thanks for the idea.👍😎

    If you had wanted an even darker brown I am wondering if you could have added some black dye to the brown.

      You'll want to get dye for cotton though and just follow directions.

    I don’t understand how anyone can risk putting a wool sweater in such hot water as it will SHRINK! If you’ve ever read the directions for washing wool sweaters, it always says to use lukewarm water. It would scare me ro do this.

    • @RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors
      @RiverbendlongbowsOutdoors  Год назад

      Putting it in the dryer would've definitely shrunk it. It all worked out 🤷‍♂️
      Appreciate you watching

      @@RiverbendlongbowsOutdoorsBoiling water will damage the wool and shrink it far more than putting it in the dryer will. I guarantee you that sweater is incredibly itchy and rough now.

      I came back to this video because I have some Wrangler’s jeans to dye brown. They started out as a medium brown but they have now faded to a light beige. Unacceptable color. Looks like an easy process for dying jeans, but I’m still mystified as to how the sweater didn’t shrunk to nothing after being cooked for 30 minutes in near boiling water.

    • @sivingridborgersen2897
      @sivingridborgersen2897 7 месяцев назад +3

      It's the combination of friction and high temperature that causes the shrinkage. Warm water in itself, is not enough to cause shrinkage.
