No DEI is a stand in for affirmative action. It's a perception that having the "correct think" and checking this weeks virtue boxes will get you a job over qualifications. Can you check the boxes and still be qualified? Absolutely that can happen. But by even having extra boxes to check you narrow the pool of available candidates by it's very nature. If one is going to say "DEI" hires are unqualified, then define a "DEI" hire as anyone who isn't white male, then that basically claims anyone who isn't white male is unqualified.

No DEI is a stand in for affirmative action. It's a perception that having the "correct think" and checking this weeks virtue boxes will get you a job over qualifications. Can you check the boxes and still be qualified? Absolutely that can happen. But by even having extra boxes to check you narrow the pool of available candidates by it's very nature. This all leads to the perception by more and more people that having the right politics and agreeing to today's agenda has become more important then skill. In some ways this perception is false but in many ways it is not. But ether way the popular perception is what matters, and the fact that these "journalists" don't understand that reinforces that perception.

Its ridiculous that any company would focus on superficial attributes of a person and not the actual skill and ability to do a job. The entire DEI concept is discriminatory and shouldnt be a focus for any reason. You want to be proud of your race, ethnicity, sex, or whatever thats absolutely fine. But, if you are not more qualified to do a job than someone else, too bad! Thats life.

Theres lots of DEI hires that are best at there job and would have got that position even without DEI. But there are many more that only got hired because of DEI and they dont qualify for the position.
I don’t think you know what “DEI” means. It’s not a “just hire ANY minority regardless of qualifications” idea. It’s about looking at QUALIFIED individuals for a positive and then choosing maybe the lesbian or the Asian or the trans person instead of default-hiring the straight white man. DEI hires are qualified individuals who meet all the standards and requirements for the job. They just might be from a marginalized community

DEI just means that if two candidates are equally qualified the diverse candidate will get it if there isn’t much diversity in the workplace. If the white person was obviously more qualified he would get it. The premise is that there is racism in hiring and often if employers could do whatever they wanted they would hire just white employees and it would be the 1950s.
Diversity in the workplace is good for everyone.

The problem with this is that you will never get two equally qualified people beacuse all people are different. Abby is either being intentionally disingenuous in her framing or is herself is a DEI hire. DEI is exactly why certain groups in these positions are facing scrutiny over their merits. The DEI structure itself is what is inherently prejudiced against people based on immutable traits and arbitrary characteristics. It's just prejudiced against so called privilege groups specifically white straight men so it has become acceptable in left wing political circles. That being said it's not just limited to this group like with how it has hampered the prospects of Asians when it came to them getting into prestigious schools. The entire purpose of DEI is forced arbitrary representation. It extolls irrelevant immutable traits and characteristics of certain groups and puts them ahead of their peers.

Instead of just being handed opportunities because you're white, opportunities black and brown people have to work ten times as hard to achieve? Someone explain to me why, with so many college educated, working people in my family, only one of us has owned their own home, while the white high school kid across the street works at McDonald's for a month and suddenly is able to drive around in a brand new pickup. Yeah,the American Indian knows a lot about being robbed of opportunities. So that's why Trump won, because you all think brown people are going to rob you of opportunities?😂😂
