I've seen Toby in concert 5 times and he never once disappointed. He always gave everything on stage. He always closed his shows with American Soldier and Courtesy of the Red White and Blue. His final words on stage were always, "Never apologize for being patriotic. Fuck 'em." RIP Toby and thank you so much for the memories.

@@spnbuff6311yes, there was a similar stage in Blues Brothers. Back in the day, it was relatively common in these sorts of bars.

I spent 28yrs in the Army, infantry. Not one person that EVER deployed that got to see Toby Keith give a USO show, EVER said they didn't love him! Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Soldiers, Coasties, everyone loved Toby. He let you know he loved America and the flag AND the troops. He was not too impressed with the government. He did 11 straight years of USO tours, over 200 shows. He will be missed for sure. One hell of an artist, a man, and an American. I salute him.

The first time I ever saw Toby sing was at the beginning of his career and he was on the state fair circuit and the concert was sponsored by a local radio station. No stage, no band, just a tent and a chair for him at the front. He walked in with a boot splint on his foot; he'd broken his foot the day before playing football. He was very down to earth and open with the crowd, which probably only numbered 100 or so. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. Check out "How Do You Like Me Now?"; very funny video!

Thank You Again Jamal for honoring this wonderful man. I’m seeing so many channel creators doing the same thing that you’re doing, and that says so much about the one and only
Toby Keith. I was never blessed to see him live. But in my heart, I feel as if I lost a friend. I’ve felt this way when John Ritter passed and of course Robin Williams. I don’t know why, I guess I’m weird. But seeing how so many people are honoring Toby by reacting to his music makes me happy for him and his family.
RIP TOBY…Like you said in your song - I’m Crying For Me - “I’ll see you on the other side, superstar”

Country is so chill because where this music comes from is laid back. We are country folk who don't worry about global mess. We focus on our local folks and what really matters. Makes like easy. We take care of each other so nobody has burdens. We love our neighbors and God. We ain't rich or special but we love this country and our veterans. It's easy to explain if you know the rural part of this complicated country.

I saw Waylon Jennings, many, many years ago. Red Dog saloon, with a wire barrier. Didn’t know why until he started singing. Then it was “game on”, as apparently it was a “thing” to throw beer bottles @ the stage!! Go back & look @ this. It’s exactly what’s going on there. You can see that happening if you know to look for it. Thank you for your very nice reaction, & remembrance of why we all love, & will always listen to Toby Keith. 😊

this is the greatest you'll love it. I've seen this a hundred times it never gets old, yes back in the day bars like these bands would play in them and have this gate up to protect them from the locals. because as you can see they were just everyday people from all kinds of life. the bands would play all over town to get noticed to then get good like Toby. this is one of his concerts. too funny. and his mason jar of booze. I've been to bars like this and fun, sawdust on the floor dancing singing safe fun.

I know you love this kind of stuff so I've been wanting to send this to you for years. It's Lonnie Mack singing a song he wrote and recorded back in the early 60's. He's famous as the Father of Modern Blues/Rock Guitar Playing but to those of us who saw him perform in Cincinnati were absolutely blown away by his voice. Lonnie is white but he was taught to play by a black minister and played in the band at the all black church as a kid. He had an integrated band all the way back to the late 50's. He was the only white artist in those days that could play to an integrated audience. He even got air-play for his instrumental records on black radio but the wouldn't play him singing. The joke was that he was set up to do an interview they saw he was white and were shocked since all they knew about him was his guitar playing.
Here's Bootsie telling about his experience growing up in Cincinnati and listening to Lonnie Mack.

Was afraid I would meet him and run away with him even though TK was happily married with kids for many years. Toby Keith was a genius songwriter and so funny! I heard him one morning on Bob and Tom at 7am singing, joking, and playing his "Bus Songs" on live radio and he is as good live as he is recorded! He was just awesome! I am shook that he has passed. Country bars are so much different than city bars ,I've seen a stage such as the one that's portraying this one. Back in Dallas, Georgia called cowboys. The stage was just like this with the chicken wire in front of it and then when they knew owners bought it they made it more open to a modern stage.
I encourage you to go to the country bar one day. Maybe with some country folk friends.

I was the DD for a great-uncle who frequented a juke joint in Heard County Ga., in the late 70's/early 80's. Yes, the band performed behind chicken wire to catch whatever got thrown.

Please do “Who’s Your Daddy” or I wish I knew now when I didn’t know then.” I live here in Moore Oklahoma and the whole town has this sad vibe to it. A true loss for us and many others. 😢 RIP to Big Dog.

Chainlink Fence was used around the stage at a lot of cut and shoot bars back in the day to protect the band from thrown bottles.
