- One way to revive a no power issue. Cooling the over protector socket seems to work, so your food won’t spoil while you wait for your replacement parts or service person to shows up.
Dude, you're a life saver! I actually did the same thing without even taking any parts off except the back cover panel. I simply unplugged the fridge, sprayed the ice on the thermo switch and the compressor tank where it was mounted. Allowed it to cool for maybe 10min. Plugged it back in and it's running again! My coils were filthy, totally clogged which is what made it get hot in the first place. So anyone who tries this, be sure to CLEAN THE COILS! (Looks kinda like a wire basket. Some are in the back, some are underneath.)

Thank you so much! I have a Gorenje K8900 combi fridge-freezer. I took the relay off and it looked and sounded OK with shaking. I replaced the mains plug first and now the fridge works. This is strange because in Germany the plugs do not have a fuse, but maybe something inside was broken.

I will definitely try this soon. I moved my old whirlpool to the garage in the spring because we bought a new fridge. Temp was over 95 most of the summer and that’s when it happened.

Your extension cord isn't big enough....you have a table lamp extension cord and it's not big enough to run an appliance...that's why it keeps overheating and shutting off...good luck and have fun!
Why would interior light also be dead? Shouldn't the start relay and overload only control the fan and compressor? Great video BTW.

The flux capacitor
After replacing cold control, starter and run capacitor, I took another look at the power cord and noticed an inch of it had wires frayed and exposed. It was one of the three wire sections. I just shaved off the rubber to expose more wire and twisted and connected them as a temporary solution. Power came back on.

My refrigerator, and bottom mount freezer, is dead, not running a lick, even the light won't come on. Was fine yesterday. Just fine. Outlet and circuit are ok: put another appliance in outlet and that app. worked fine. Power cord to refrig looks fine and dandy. With the light not even coming on, does this likely mean it is the control board at fault? Ty.

The two wires from power that connects to the compressor in my fridge does not read 120 Volts. Another way of saying is that I am not getting 120 volts to the compressor to begin with. Why?
So where does the power wire go before it heads to the compressor and the of course the fan. The voltage in my fridge compressor reads about 14 volts. What kind of bullshit is this?
Also the compressor was shot so I replaced it. I like to know how much Freon R134A takes to fill up the system. I guess I will have to buy that piercing adapter.
Plus do I need vacuum suck the line or can I blow them so they are clean?

For future readers of these comments: About 2 days after my above comment, I simply lowered the temp dial in the fridge for both the fridge and freezer and it started to run! No problems in over a month now. However, I was stumped as to the light still not coming on after the fridge was working again and thought something else might have been the cause. I simply changed the bulb($2.79 at Home Depot) and it worked. When the power issue came about, it must have blown out the bulb. Hope this helps.
Conclusion, no cost to just lower the temp and wait a full day or two. And check/change the bulb if needed.

Hi my fridge motor wont turn on I've changed start run capacitor the relay and the overload protection still nothing apart from a humm and it gets hot , I wired it direct and it ran fine jumping the pins ,any clues as to problem be great ,

humming normally indicates faulty start capacitir, which is needed to start the compressor.
I changed the capacitor and relay, compressor didn't come on , the fan is running.
What should I do now?

This method only works on refrigerators that are 2010 or so and prior. Replace the start device and run capacitor for a permanent fix.
