      Every situation is different. I do many of my relative's taxes so as a result, I know about their finances, and they discuss various personal financial and tax related issues with me. Then again, numbers are what I do. My uncle who I do his taxes is a mechanic. I know very little about the workings of the internal combustion engine so when I need mechanical advice I go to him.

  • @peterrose5373
    @peterrose5373 51 минуту назад

    Well, before trying to and get them to change their minds, it's often helpful to make sure you're right.
    I dong see that there's any wrong with peer to peer lending in principle, although I'd want to investigate any particular implementation pretty carefully, and I certainly wouldn't want a large fraction of my money invested that way.
    The problem I see is the the guy is borrowing in order to play at it. Of course a body might also have moral objections, because the people who are most successful at lending money to to desperate and stupid are generally not the sort of people one wants to associate with.

  • @thomasdalton1508

    I think the first step is going to be to listen. Get him to explain what this investment really is and listen properly to it. Understand why he thinks it is a good idea. Be open to the possibility that he's right (I think the caller said at about 3:00 that he was borrowing to invest in it - that's very unlikely to be a good idea, but investing money you can afford to lose in it might not be a bad idea). If he's interested in p2p lending but seems to be excited about a scam version of it that is making ridiculous claims, then point him towards a legitimate platform that makes realistic claims (ie. returns slightly above what you would get from a savings account).

    Ok joke aside I see many people who like Dave says work their butt off but are barely in a surviving mode because working two minimum wage jobs is not sufficient enough to sustain a family specifically when there are kids involved. Many of them do want to go to college get degrees to better their way of life but as a breadwinners and family being dependent on them they struggle in life. This is real life cases I see daily.

      If it is risky don't expect Dave to approve it looks like. Risk can be carefully and sophisticatedly managed like a bank but you won't find risk management techniques here though.

    • @thomasdalton1508
      @thomasdalton1508 Час назад +1

      If this guy is really excited about it, it sounds like it probably isn't legit p2p lending. The legit platforms just provide a return on investment perhaps a percentage point higher than a savings account. It's not something anyone is going to get excited about. Like all good investments, it's boring.
      And I think the caller said at about 3:00 that his brother-in-law was borrowing money to invest it in. Borrowing money to invest is usually a very bad idea (a mortgage on a rental property is the only margin investing most people should even be considering). I can't see why anyone would borrow money to invest in legit p2p lending - it just doesn't generate the returns required for that to even look like a good idea. If he's borrowing money to invest in it, someone is telling him he can get massive returns from it, which means it's not a legit platform.
