    Hopefully, they will be able to come back when it's done and see it finished.

    My father built my childhood home over the course of five years on weekends, holidays and vacations. They lived there for more than 55 years. When the time came and their care needs rose, we moved them in to our home and cared for them a bit over 5 years until they passed. The family that purchased their home sent us pictures of their remodel along with finished photos. It made a beautiful home for them to raise their young daughter. It continues to be a favorite memory seeing the love they put in to building their home. I'm sure this family enjoys watching the same progress on your build. Wonderful job!

    Wow,,,so awesome hearing the older folks talking about their home from way back when. So sweet!
    With the floor getting leveled like this, insulate it under the new flooring, it definitely will be worth it
    in the winter even though you have a basement.
    Glad your trip was nice but sorry the flight wasn’t so good 🥺
    God Bless ❤

  • @sonanyl5969

    Will you put insulation in the floor? I think it would help keep the floor from sounding hallow when you walk across it in addition to helping with heat in the winter.

    Are the joists UNDERNEATH the floor weak, causing the center to sag? wouldn’t it be better to take out the floor and level the joists, then replace the floor? I’d be afraid that the joists would continue to weaken and sag, causing you to have to fix it later…

    • @marielucier7982
      @marielucier7982 2 месяца назад +1

      My first thought too. I’m thinking same thing. I watch a lot of château renovations in France and see this problem all the time. Sagging beams and rotten or sagging joists.

    • @elmadixon8293
      @elmadixon8293 2 месяца назад

      Yes, I was thinking the same. What is the reason? I would think it would be less work in the long run try to take out floor the level then add new floor.

  • @lfuentes4098

    🤔 I would’ve started with removing the flooring then sistering the joists to level the floor. We had to do this method in a bathroom because we weren’t going to remove the wood flooring in the connecting rooms. But my dad said the proper way would’ve been to shore up the house and level from the joist in the crawl space and add foundation posts. I don’t know if post n beam houses can be leveled the same way.
    16:02 I agree Jim. I would’ve slapped the floor on top of the existing floor and just leveled the kitchen cabinets. 😂 Actually that’s what I did in my 1926 cottage. But I also wanted to keep the wood flooring. So if I’m confused about this here since Abby wasn’t keeping the floor.
    20:22 I thought so too. 😮
    Sweet family that used to live here. I’m sure they’re happy they got to come visit and relive some fond memories.❤

      Yup. Rip out the old floor, sister up to the existing beams and get them leveled, then lay new subfloor. Never seen it done this way. Talk about a condominium for mice! I HOPE NOT! lol.

There were a lot of considerations to incorporate in leveling the floor. Much math! You're so fortunate that your family runs the lumber mill. It's kinda like alchemy, turning lead into gold, they turn trees into lumber. Your home is going to be fabulous! Nice to see the past residents visit😊

    This is amazing so my house is 1925 and I know a little bit of the history that there was a Czechoslovakian lady by the name of Miss Rollo that lived here and her family lived in Galveston Texas so when we bought this house and we actually kind of kept it original there’s not much I have the original flooring the original chimney of course sheet rock paint bathroom redo bathroom restroom added a new restroom but the parents the grandchildren and sister have come several times and we all talked about the stories of this house and it’s amazing that even the great great grandchildren are probably already in their 70s when Miss Rollo sold this house and moved to Galveston, she was already in her 90s 98 I think so. Her great great grandchildren visit twice. I actually still have some original furniture not too much into modern or new things. I do like the old things I like the furniture it’s cozy my house you know wood floors, 1925 and creeks. I’ve actually just had it leveled but it’s still creeks and it’s it’s OK I’m used to it, I’ve been more than 50 years. This was my mothers house and then I lived in grow up with her and then married went off and then I came back and 21 2000 and I’ve been here seven cents. We are actually going through a lot right now with it we’re leveling it doing a lot of work you know just tidying up and when you have an old house, you always have some work to do, good luck I loved everything you’re done Windows . I’m actually going through the same thing with the windows doing all the windows in the 1925 new and doing all the trim work wood and deep wood trim so the old house has some really good trim with where you can put glass I like color glass so then you Windows and I put it. I’m gonna make sure That the carpenter put that deep trim you know 5 inches or whatever it is Deep too. I can put some glass decorations on the windows. Let me please. When do you think or do you estimate you’ll get in there when you think you’ll get there before Christmas or maybe before Valentines. ??
