    Thank you for the video! I actually tried my new dragy last week. It was way of on times. But, I used the included strips so the dragy could magnetically mount to my dash. After every run the Dragy had actually moved from the original mount. So, now I have my Dragy mounted in a 3M double side sticky tape/glue strip that is made to stick firearm magnets to anything. I can't wait to try the. dragy out again next week to our time slips!!!!

      I'm surprised - I've not seen any dragy results that were off by any significant amount. Did your results say "valid" in the top corner? You might be right about it moving around. How far off was it?

    Lol soon as you said “if you want a draggy, link in the description below” I threw everything you said out the window 🤣🤣 my draggy said I had a 10sec car on the street and it was a 12.90 car at the track. Grated this was a while back and they may have gotten better but 🤷🏼‍♂️

      I just actually really like this thing. I paid full price for mine. As the numbers show, it's frighteningly accurate. Were your runs valid? It shows up in the corner of the screen. There are a few other videos on youtube, and they all show a very close correlation. I don't know how you would've been that far off without something being wrong. Similar products have been around for years.

    overall Dragy is pretty accurate , but sometimes has correlation issues up until 60Ft
    by 330Ft upwards its more accurate, Dragy also does not get the Peak HP distance correct Feet location
    Dragy = Peak HP= 595.90 at 203-to-208 Feet distance
    DragStrip= Peak HP= 595.17 at 885 Feet distance
    the DragStrip ET Slip by far is much more accurate
    when ET Slip is entered into : ETAPRO1 ET_Analyst_for_DragRacers_Pro1
    ruclips.net/video/7MPVrxkMonI/видео.html
    0-to-xxMPH Times are all available in ETAPRO along with each Feet distance
    newer ETAPRO3 version gives you full TQ and HP Curves, GForces, Induction Flowbench CFM, etc.

      Thanks! The shows have been down for a bit for two main reasons: the Discovery/Warner merger has been dragging on for a while and Brian had some serous health issues, but he's recovered pretty well after surgery. Something will gel soon, I'm sure.

    There was a small digital unit available in the 1980s that gave you 0-30 0-60 and quarter mile et and speed, and it gave you your driving speed, and it was also within a tenth of the strip, as tested by Carcraft. No GPS needed, as it counted and was triggered by magnets on the driveshafts. Ford sold them and so did Chrysler, and so did the company that made them. Since putting the magnets could mean accuracy would be affected by tire spin, I put the magnets inside my front wheel on the disc brake hub. That way only wheelstands could throw it off. No smart phone or app was need either for the timer and it powered off 12v.
    They have not been sold for decades but are worth their weight in gold, and sold for less than $100 way back then. Thinking and knowing are two different worlds.

      That's a cool idea. You could probably re-create that pretty easily with an arduino these days. But we've got stuff like this for $160... Thanks for watching, commenting and subscribing!

    Thanks for doing this video Alex, I've been curious about this product but hadn't heard from a source that I trusted. I bought the same headlights as you have for my LTD wagon and am glad I did. I may look into the dragy now. Do you have trouble with satellite receptions or data not being saved?

    • @AlexLTDLX

      I haven't had issues with either - it just works. It takes a minute to get acclimated to the app, but it's pretty easy.

    I wonder if the draggy has accelerometers in it. I played with a high accuracy unit from Microstrain once that had both accelerometers (500 hz) and GPS(I think 4 hz gps) and it interpolated. It was good to 6 sig figs.... made it easy to run down the road and make my own dyno plots. Also used it for a school project to calculate the drag coefficient and rolling resistance of a car with the know elevation.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  2 года назад

      You know, I actually looked up to see if the Dragy has accelerometers in it before I made the video - I don't think so. I think all its data is GPS based. But I could be wrong (which is why I didn't mention it).

    Our drag strip takes down their timing equiptment and sets it all up every race. So the distances between everything are never exactly the same. So I believe my draggy is more accurate than my local strips time slips.
    Drag strips 1/8-1/4 times are only as accurate as the distances the beams are set up at

    • @nsboost

      @x X the track was closed down almost a decade ago. When Discovery came here and filmed the fastest in America a couple years ago, Pat Musi bought us timing equiptment because Lizzi supposedly her best time on this shitty little track while testing (that’s the story I got). The town let’s us use the track 5 times a year for one day each time. We didn’t even have timing equiptment or a light 2 years ago.
      I’m sure they measure it… but the dragy delivers me consistent times that correlate to how much power I have in my car and what it normally runs. The timing equiptment from race to race doesn’t seem to stay consistent and that’s why I believe they don’t get it dead on.
      The times don’t really have to be accurate to know who won the race.. both lanes just have to be the same as each other.
      It’s a old worn out deserted track in the middle of a field of weeds and sage brush… this isn’t some nice facility lol.

      When you are traveling 130 mph the fact that the photo cell timers are not in the EXACT spot each time will have no measurable effect. Are the photo cells an inch out of place from set up to set up or 10 feet? An NHRA or IHRA sanctioned track has to be 1320 feet +/- 100 mm long or +/- 1/3 of a foot. So at any given track you race at you could be traveling 1320.33 feet instead of just 1320. My car traps about 134.5 and that extra 1/3 of a foot would add .0017s to my ET.

      Thanks for sharing that info - I never heard of them. Looks very similar, and now they have a 20Hz model - though 10Hz appears to be more than adequate from an accuracy perspective. Unfortunately, they appear to be hard to find, and it looks like they have problems with the software. The Dragy just works - that's what you're paying for, I suppose.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  2 года назад +1

      Hey Robbi - I do think that in places where they've closed drag strips, yeah, you'll see the Dragy get more and more popular. But many people (myself included), prefer the safer environment of a drag strip.

    Thanks Alex, Informative video. I would be interested to know how well Draggy works vs a phone + app as i have found GPS connection issues a big thing (would consider its more a hardware/environment issue rather than software) cause we all know when data logging doesn't work it can be a real pain.
    Keep safe and appreciate your time as usual :)

      Using an app on your phone would have a much lower accuracy due to one fundemental aspect, Update frequency. The lower the update frequency the less accurate the data. Thats because the device has to do more guessing when it comes to the time between updates.
      A cell phone's gps engine will have an update freqnency of ~1Hz depending on the chipset. That means it updates it's position once every second. The draggy has a 10Hz gps engine so it updates its position every 10th of a second. The draggy has 10x the data to draw its conclusions from, so it won't have to guess as much, and will be much more accurate than the cellphone gps.

      I would have agree with jake's comment. That would be an interesting test, though.

    So I can't use dragy at my track, because not enough satellites. Based on my last slip run I supposedly ran 12.03 seconds. That said, I did the math with an online calculator using drag strip numbers for 1/8th mile and speed and the 1/4 mile time is off by almost 0.5 seconds. So what is the deal there? Only thing I can think of is the online calculator doesn't take DA into account?
