As someone who played the first game, this completely out did the original. The storytelling in this game was beyond anything I have ever played and it toyed with my emotions at every single corner.
This is exactly why multiplayer only games aren't the future. Nothing beats an immersive, story driven game like this one and innocence before it. I absolutely love sitting in front of my television, turning up the volume and just escaping into these worlds. Can't wait until tomorrow!! 😁😁
the only issue with this one is performance is down at least a third even on series X . It just doesn't feel at all snappy like the previous game. Played it at 40 fps VRR on 120 and it's better than 30 but still unacceptable for these new consoles as the only option to play at.
I prefer singleplayer narrative experiences to repetitive multiplayer games any day of the week, for the same reasons. there's always room for variety in the industry but games of this particular flavour will always be king to me. it's nice to see this kind of excellence rewarded with at least a GOTY nomination.
Would be really surprised to not see this among the nominations for Game of the Year, at the very least Charlotte McBurney deserves an award for her voice work because she absolutely killed it here.
@@JacobRodgers1up It doesn't have to be. It's a linear game that aims to tell a story with great voice acting and atmosphere. The gameplay is just there for you to interact with the world and solve a few puzzles. Just like Stray. Not all games need souls-like combat to be good or fun.
Very much agree. A nomination for Game of The Year is the least it deserves. Its a shame that God of War Ragnarok is coming at around the same time as well, all the spotlight will definitely on God of War.
I had the exact same feeling as you after finishing the first: man, I love videogames. Didn't have that a lot with other games that were released that period. Idk if I have anything else to add on your video except that these 2 games has been a wild ride and I feel myself lucky that I tried innocence through gamepass

Wow, just finished it. That was such a crazy journey! Such a wonderfully refined upgrade to the first game. This one felt like it was filled with more heart and personality. Also, the music got me in the feels. 🌸🐀 Love your videos, Jake! Keep it up! 😁👌
This game is a masterpiece on all fronts. Writing, voice acting, mocap, visuals, music, gameplay, it all just melds together so perfectly. I think the fact that they chose to hyper focus on characters and their story helps so much. Everything is there to serve the story of Amicia and Hugo, but nothing feels half-baked either. The side characters are just as engaging (good or bad) as the main ones. I absolutely agree that THIS is what I want in a game. Don't get me wrong, I will always love a good open-world, dialogue tree, create your own adventure game. But this sort of game where it's more linear and it's almost like a long-form movie where you get to experience the story from within... *Chef's kiss* it's like a movie and a book combined in the best way. This game will not leave my brain, hahaha.
I’m back after finishing the game. It is on my short list for game of the year. When it ended, I just sat there, quiet for like 10 minutes. I love that feeling.
I beat Plague Tale around last Halloween on Gamepass. I loved it. I felt the same way you did and just said damn this was a great game. The story was really cool gameplay was fun and I’m excited for this new game.
I just finished this on the series x and loved it. I was a huge fan of the story of the first game and this one hit me hard especially since I have younger siblings. A lot of jaw dropping moments and really hit me hard in the soul/feels. Haven’t teared up like that in a long time. This would make for a great tv show.
Finished Innocence today in preparation for Requiem. Really enjoyed the story and the characters for the most part. Gameplay can be a bit frustrating especially with the stealth sequences and aiming at an enemy that is charging towards you. But overall, it is a great game. Solid 8/10 for me. If Requiem improves upon the gameplay, then it will be a 10/10.
Just finished this game and the word epic is for real the best way to describe it. Completely blew me away. Need a video on your thoughts on the story full spoilers next!
The first game was amazing, I can't wait to play this! Being someone who pretty much only plays single player games I really love watching you talk about them on this channel. So thank you Jake!
I loved the first one also I loved how well they did the emotions and the lost of innocence as she amycia had to take care of her brother and how she had to kill to survive!!! She was very helpless in the start loved it so much. Also that last boss was so epic
It’s not corny. The pure joy I get when you find that rare gem of a game. Like disco Elysium was the first that gave me that feeling after a very brutal divorce. It’ll always hold a place in my heart. I’ve recently started playing this game and I’m loving it so far. Only in chapter 6
Massive Plague Tale fan, I bought Innocence the day it launched on ps4, played it like 3 times since and I've been super excited for Requiem. Just finished the first 2 chapters and wow, I can already tell this is gonna be another amazing adventure for Amicia and Hugo, just wish the performance was better on PS5, hope we get a patch soon 😵
Love the channel Jake. Great video. Innocence was my favorite game of 2019, requiem is my most anticipated of this year. Long live single player story driven games !!!!
Innocence is on heavy sale right now on Xbox (console and Windows). Great time to get in. Now 3/4 of the way through Innocence and totally blown away by the game.
Except for the frame rate :) the ps5 version of innocence will probably spoil me with that smooth 60 fps and then going into this with a 30 to 40 fps will probably hurt the game for me, in a day of today where 60 fps is standard, going back to 30 fps just hurts my eyes now.
This is excellent news Jake and thanks for the Pizza xD. The first Game was great and was definitely a sleeper hit; it also made me say "man I love video games" by the end of it, haha. The fact that the sequel made you say the same things have me even more excited and wow, I didn't realize the game was coming out this week!
I feel you when you say you sometimes sit in front of the screen thinking: wow i just love video games. Thought the same thing playing Ghost of Tsushima today!
Just finished it, and I agree with just about everything you said here. Love both of these games. I'm also glad to hear it wasn't just me being terrible, and this game was actually pretty hard. idk if there's enough demand for it or what, but I'd be interested to see a spoiler discussion kind of video on it as well.
I still need to play the first one, i played it a bit when it was on Game Pass and i loved what i played, might buy it to own on PS5 and finish it then jump into Requiem
Just finished the first game.. It's my first game since a long time where I had to go through trial and error, replaying parts multiple times, dying and restarting every time. Usually I just set the game to Easy mode because I'm here for the story, but this one was special somehow. Oh, and the main boss of the first game was soooo Resident Evil
When you said about just sitting back after finishing a game and just thinking 'Man I love video games' just brings me back to when i finished Outer Wilds which if you haven't played yet then do yourself a favour and play it, it's on Game Pass and Playstation+ Extra
It's amazing to be able to get into a story that isn't trying to be the morality police, and gameplay that doesn't make you feel like a child, with less hud and hand holding.
It didn’t sound corny. I feel that way about video games as well. Brought me through a tough spot in life and on the other side I still adore them. Incredible escapism. Much better than TV or Movies.
Thank you for reviewing this. I seen no reviews for it and there was really no ads saying it’s now ready to play until I just clicked on it. No direct route guide or symbol but I love it though, never heard of the first one but I’ll probably go play that as well. Great review.
After completing this game, I found myself audibly, walking around for an hour just saying "wow" and chastising myself for talking to myself. The narrative is higher stakes and took a direction I didn't expect with the idea of repeating cycles and their respective roles. I loved the inclusion of more skilled companions to vary playstyle and I just found myself in constant awe. I loved Innocnece but I feel Requiem was a complete step up.
Omg Jake ! I just finished Requiem ! I wish you would’ve had a spoiler part and just talked about the ending and your thoughts describing everything that happened !
Jake, thank you dude. I not only appreciate you not spoiling this game, but the last one too. I just started the original game, and I'm SO GLAD that between this vid and the Gameranx one, you don't give anything away. I HEAR the struggle to generalize comments, and just wanted to let you know that I am super thankful that you put in the obvious effort required there. Have a great day, bud.
The narrative is so emotinal. And the music score is phenomenal. The composer is during music breakdown on his channel. And they recently did a live performance of the music on RUclips. You should really check it out!
Totally are with you Jake on A Plague Tale, especially Requiem! It was exciting and I must say pretty inspiring too :D I've recently recorded a thrash metal song ('Rat King' oh boy we're so obvious xD) which lyrics layer is totally based on Innocence :D I WILL definately use the inspiration from the Requiem experiance on our next album!
Stealth fan since way back. Thief series was the first hook. No One Lives Forever, Splinter Cell, Dishonored, Deus Ex, Metal Gear, Hitman etc. Plague was just a lucky find for me on PC Game Pass. It's a bit glitchy, and my 3090ti is running on max fan/cool mode, and forced combat really sucks. But this is truly an Indy gem.
The 20 hours remark took me by surprise. I felt like it took half that amount of time to finish the first one. From what it sounds like, the extra time is well worth it; hell ya!
Your passion is contagious, Jake. I love your videos. I still haven't played the first game, so I think I'm going to start that this weekend, eventually working up to this one. I should take a break from playing Persona 5 Royal on Steam Deck anyway.
I hate that this game didn't get more recognition.. One of the best games of not just this year but overall. The gameplay, The visuals and music, and the emotional rollercoaster that it was, I only usually see in big budget games like TLOU or TRDR2 etc.
Sooooo today I played from chapter 6 to the ending and man let me tell ya, it was incredible. The only issue I have is the performance but the world, characters, gameplay, story all feel improved over the first game. I'm gonna hop into new game + and finish the last achievement I need and just play the game a different way. My playstyle was a bit of everything, I was sneaking my way through half the game but which I got the upgrade for your crossbow to get you're arrows back from kills, I was killing EVERYTHING and it was awesome. Without spoiling much by the looks of the end credits it looks like another sequel could be in the works and man I couldn't be more excited.
Hey Jake, love all your content man, i have a question though and i know you’ll be unbiased on it. Is playing playstation games on the steam deck really good? Would you suggest it as a good bridge for someone who wants to come back to PC without losing their console life and without spending a bajillion dollars?
finished it last night and im still thinking about it. they dont make games like this anymore. amicia de rune has solidified her place as an all time great video game heroine in my opinion
Yes, it's so perfect and i have started the adventure for 2nd time. And will start the previous adventure again which i have completed 2 time in 2020.Replaying this 2 adventure will never gets boring
Asobo Studio crafted the biggest surprise of 2019 when they released A Plague Tale Innocence. Amicia and Hugo's story and their struggle for survival was impactful and memorable. The game was and still is gorgeous even now. The setting and atmosphere were intriguing and interesting. Though, combat was very limited and it resulted in a lot of trial and error as a result. A Plague Tale Requiem looks to build upon the solid foundation that was already established by its predecessor. Thankfully, Amicia's arsenal has been expanded upon in terms of combat. I'm sure that the game will be just as emotional and memorable as A Plague Tale Innocence. Once again, Charlotte McBurney (Amicia) and Logan Hannan (Hugo) do an amazing job of bringing their respective characters to life and they do so in such a natural and believable way. Their story is the heart and soul of A Plague Tale Requiem. The game may be a AA title, but it has the high production quality of a AAA blockbuster. Asobo Studio obviously put a lot of passion and hard work into it, which is evident in the final product. I can't wait to experience it on the PS5. I'll be picking up my per-order later today. Thanks once again for another awesome review! I really appreciate the hard work! God bless and stay safe!
Great take. I wasn't sure if I would dive into it but after your review I deff. will be going through it. Great job as always - and also enjoying your content on FPS :)
After replaying the first game prior to Requiem, for the sake of noticeable improvements or lack there of I don’t share your opinion Jake. Environments were greatly improved, everything else went down from story, controls, combat, and crafting. I would not recommend replay value but worth comparing the two games for gauging your own thoughts. Overall that’s just my opinion.
The game had some intense sequences and emotional moments at times, especially the ending but I felt at least to me that the narrative drags out for too long and it can become repetitive( with too many running sequences) in the middle of the campaign. Every single character its given a back story and all have chemistry with each other. Graphics wise the game looks stunning, especially when The Runes reach the Island, the waves and the sand on the shore look so realistic and beautiful to look at when the sunset hits the horizon(chef kiss). This time around the world feels richer in detail and more interactive with NPCs than the 1st game. The devs did a great job at using the tools at hand creatively and cleverly to pass through the waves of rats in your surroundings. Exploration is rewarding and the puzzles are straightforward. Overall, this game delivers and it is easily one of the best on gamepass. If you like narrative-driven games with a decent/great story to tell, and you like the 1st game. Then this is a must.
because the first one had all the reasons to be a better game if not for the Inquisition BS storyline that ruins the mystique. It was the absolute weakest point of the game and I was hoping Requiem did away with Big Bads. And it did.
Love the unabashed enthusiasm. I haven't even tried the first one, despite it being in my catalogue (PS Plus), but this video sold me on giving it a fair try.
SPOILER FREE VIDEO! I know everyone is gonna complain about the frame rate (totally justified) but there's a great game here regardless
I'm sorry but i don't understand, first game was very similar but had locked 60fps on ps5

Photomode was so clutch in this game. You can clip through anything lol. It helped me see what was ahead.
Thanks Jake. You convinced me to get this game tomorrow. Loved the first one.
It is absolutely a must have but before playing requiem its very important to play innocence.
I've never been a stealth game person. I love running in and cracking heads but I'm really getting into this
Your passion is contagious, Jake. I love your videos. I still haven't played the first game, so I think I'm going to start that this weekend, eventually working up to this one. I should take a break from playing Persona 5 Royal on Steam Deck anyway.
Your fake donation didn't work so well...
Just finished. Absolute masterpiece.
That's good to hear
finished it last night and im still thinking about it. they dont make games like this anymore. amicia de rune has solidified her place as an all time great video game heroine in my opinion
This game is an absolute Masterpiece
Hugo is wearing a cape in this one. I don't see any downside.
Thank you! This is my favorite game of all time now!
I just finished the first game and started this one. I'm excited that I slept on the first one, because now I get to experience them both.
Nice vid! Loved this game! Love ya in the FPS podcast!
Great take. I wasn't sure if I would dive into it but after your review I deff. will be going through it. Great job as always - and also enjoying your content on FPS :)
Thanks for the review. I just got both of them after price drops and your recommendation. Pizza is on me!
Thank you for existing man
After replaying the first game prior to Requiem, for the sake of noticeable improvements or lack there of I don’t share your opinion Jake.
Can't wait for the day I randomly encounter Jake on the street and he has to buy us a pizza.
I really didn’t care much for the first one, but man this one is so good. And there are so many reasons to actually use the photo mode in it too!
because the first one had all the reasons to be a better game if not for the Inquisition BS storyline that ruins the mystique. It was the absolute weakest point of the game and I was hoping Requiem did away with Big Bads. And it did.
Love the unabashed enthusiasm.
I haven't even tried the first one, despite it being in my catalogue (PS Plus), but this video sold me on giving it a fair try.
