A Plague Tale: Requiem Is Easily 2022's BEST Game | Review

- I swore to myself those two words in the thumbnail would never be spoken again here, but A Plague Tale: Requiem is so masterful that I just had to use them one more time! ;) A Plague Tale: Requiem is stunning, epic, beautiful, fun, and expands in all the right ways that a sequel should. When I finished this game, I slowly laid the controller down, sat back, and tried to collect myself. It's a wild journey that truly delivers.

Man I just beat this game it definitely deserves an award
Dead ass… sad Hugo died but I’m hoping we get another sequel since a baby was born with the disease in modern times
me too this is one of the best
First game could be a lucky accident. Second game reaching bigger and succeeding means this studio is in it to win it! I LOVE IT!
Asobo studios is going to be one of the first stories of 3rd party studios gaining a massive following because of their partnership with Game Pass. Now that Asobo has proven they make amazing games with this series, people will be very interested to see where Asobo goes next.
Nah, this is Asobo establishing relationships with gamers. Hey look at at my game and how awesome it is. Big reason why it has many AAA qualities. Next game will not be back with gamepass on this kind of level. They will opt to publish themselves and make the money they truly deserve.
@@juanpablo8886 That's exactly how game pass benefits developers. Developers get exposure, then Developers can make more money.
@@tylerbarse2866 I agree, Its just that most people do not see it that way. People think that developers are getting a ton of money for being on gamepass. People also think that everything should be on gamepass.
@@juanpablo8886 Developers are making a fortune off Gamepass or they wouldn't put their games on it. 🤦
It's weird it was built for the PS5 yet runs better on Series X lol. Well not that weird i guess seeing it is about 18-20% more powerful so it makes sense as it does that PC
s many times more powerful than Series X are getting amazing results with Ray Tracing and all.
Outstanding game that is heartbreaking. A true once a generation experience. This is probably the most underrated series on current gen right now that deserves recognition for its storytelling and gameplay. They borrow ideas from Naughty Dog (Uncharted) and put their own spin on it, with camera angles and how to maneuver around...and then ramp up the story with its deep emotional connection and pair it with the perfect soundtrack to set the tone. Masterpiece.
The ending broke my heart into a million pieces.. I dont think I'll ever play this again, my heart wont make it the second time.. This is the second game, first being Last of us, that made me feel so helpless and extremely sad to the extent of being depressed. I'll never forget this experience
This is how you write a good female protagonist. She felt human, had vulnerabilities, accepted help and recognized her own weaknesses which all made her stronger and I cheered when she overcame adversity. She wasn’t some May Sue doing back flips and 1v1 dudes by throwing them over her head or just constantly covering her head to toe in blood and dirt like the new tomb raider games. They did it through amazing storytelling.
Well said!
Bro she literally gets impaled by an arrow and is back to normal immediately after. It's actually comical how many injuries she just shrugs off.
@@jaydee2847 If Lara Croft can do it for a whole game so can Amicia for the last act. Plus the arrow was soon treated by Arnaud.
Agreed,Senua from Hellblade is also very well made
@@jaydee2847that's why it's called a game genius
This first game was a underrated masterpiece and was made by 60 developers, really excited for tomorrow
Underrated? Are you sure?
@@rem792 It was underrated by many mainstream gaming media outlets like IGN and GameSpot. IGN only likes big first party playstation exclusives
@@daksans6764 I think it's safe to say most people loved it. Most playthroughs or reviews I've seen mentioning it praised it. I don't watch those two... I just looked at steam reviews and saw over 90% and that says it all.
@@rem792 Steam reviews are genuine reviews because these reviews are given by people who have actually played the game. I trust steam reviews more than shitty gaming media reviews.
I loved the game but a "masterpiece"? And "underrated"?
Hive mind in full effect
This is now officially my favorite video game story ever this is such a amazing awesome game I don't even like these type of games normally and this is just a masterpiece to me
Everyone was so obsessed with GOW and Elden Ring that they let this beautiful gem slip right by them. How this masterpiece never won anything at the game awards is beyond me.
I know I'm late but I played it for 5 minutes then deleted it the gameplay felt horrible.
@@OTG1776 average braindead gamer

@@OTG1776 literally nothing is wrong with it you’ve just never played a good game in your life.
@@aycuh7873 I mean I play story driven games completely devoid of gameplay all together but when it's a story driven game with horrible gameplay as opposed to none it makes it hard to play. I mught as well just watch it on youtube at that point.
I LOVED the first game, so i was gonna play it on gamepass when it came out, but innocence was so good and based on what you said im gonna have to buy the copy. This is one series that truly deserves monetary support
I'm midway through the game and loving it.
I'd go so far as to say it's not only an improvement to the first game but a GotY contender.
I often have the same opinions as Matty on games and Requiem feels also like my GotY 2022. Absolutely beautiful game!
came here after just now finishing the game. what a beautiful and tragic experience. bravo asobo. they dont make em like this anymore, and I hope even more people find this series
I’ve been on the fence about this game.. not sure why as it seems right up my alley. Once you compared it to your experience watching Breaking Bad, that was enough to sell me. About to play the first via PS+ and just bought the sequel. I think it’s about time I play this series.
You can feel how much effort the Devs put on the story; in every landscape, every part of the story is just so well written… The Ost is just a masterpiece
I was so floored by this experience. Never was I more often in awe playing a video.
Another great review sir!! I’m playing it right now and I’m truly blown away.. The first Plague Tale is one of my favorites and Requiem is going to be up there for me.. I see a lot of inspiration from TLOU2 Asobo is a super underrated studio. They’ve done it again! Hats off to them.. 👍🏻👍🏻
The story is one of gaming's finest stories. A must play for linear story lovers.
Loved the first one it was completely off my radar aswell so I'm really excited for this one
@Ryan Vetter -what an odd comment
The first game was incredibly well done, especially the ending. I can't wait to play the second.
The detailed environments are in par with what Naughty Dog can do.
@@maineman5757 pity we can't say the same about performance and optimization, naughty dog are light years ahead in those departments, or maybe they're simply not lazy.
@@maineman5757 indeed. Graphics aren't everything though. But just imagine what they could do given the same budget...
@@Braconara1981 i think that could be more of an issue with the budget for the game
@@imthemoeron I get it, it's difficult to digest as the first game got patched for new consoles and runs pretty well at 60 fps with an even smaller budget at hand, you would assume that Requiem was going to run at 60 fps at launch since their budget doubled for it.
This may be my favorite game of all time! For the same reason Annihilation is my favorite movie, its themes are super deep and human. It made me think and it made me sit back in my chair and consider my life for an hour. It's gotten me to reflect on my decisions and the world as a whole in many ways, I too just like half the characters in this game cannot let go.
Xbox really knocked it out of the park by getting this bad boy on Gamepass day one
Can’t wait for this one!! Was a big fan of the first game and I’m hoping once the ABK deal is done, asobo is the first studio Xbox acquires
Why, so they can run them into the ground and leave the IP stagnate for a decade too?
@@conor6436 L
Idk it seems like every studio Xbox acquires there production goes way down idk what’s going on with that
@@Speedo94 stop with the silly narrative that Xbox screws with the studios they buy. When Phil Spencer took over they had like 4 studios. They're up to like 24 now and tons of those studios they acquired like Mojang and obsidian for examples are thriving.

Game pass finally gets a great day one third party game.👍
it will not top elden ring. for me to clarify. I'm a mega souls/from soft fan.
while it looks interesting and will have to give it a go. The only thing could top elden ring for me is its sequel.
Did you play Elden Ring??
I am excited for this game. I will buy it, play it, and probably love it, but seriously?!? Better than Elden Ring???
This game is 80% walking simulator so I have no idea what Matty is smoking to make himself think this is a better game than Elden Ring.
Spot on Matty. Just finished it this morning and I don't even know how to articulate the words on how I feel about this game other than brilliant.
Probably going to write up a full review in a OneNote file and just go ham. haha
I passed innocence recently and absolutely loved it so when I found out they were working on a sequel i was so excited! I can't wait to play this tonight I got a new controller (mineral camo) to play this game lol that's how excited I am 😅 my birthday was yesterday so this'll be like a late bday gift for me lol
With every game seeming like its an open world It's a nice break to just enjoy a story that unfolds in front of you.
I really enjoyed the first game. Looking forward to the sequel.
Meanwhile worst game of the year:- saints row remake
Great story but I find the gameplay absolutely boring. Am I the only one who feels this way?
This is a NEAR PERFECT review Matty!
Elden ring 👀
Innocence was a very unique and memorable experience for sure. I can’t wait to check out Requiem
Man idk about GOTY Elden Ring was near perfect.
So funny to hear your story, mine was the exact same, the feeling, the experience.
What a masterpiece. Cant wait for the next game with that ending 👌
Unfortunately the reviewers are not talking about the atrocious performance of this game. It's horrible.
Even a rtx 4090 can't handle it
This will go down as one of the games that I wish I could experience for the first time again.
Congrats to Asobo for officially graduating from AA to AAA. I was hoping fro greatness. Now I expect it from here on out. 🍺
Exactly what I felt about the game - "Every single moment on screen being meaningful." Also it never felt repeatative - "Almost every chapter introuduces brand new mechanic", Some other proclaimed narrative driven games like God of War, Uncharted and Gaurdians of the Galaxy felt a lot more repeatative to me.
I only played Innocence last week, but then I played it again to Platinum and that was fine too. Looking forward to this one.
i am still missing 1 cart and been through the game 4 times. I don't know if the achievement just glitched or something lol
I loved the first game. Considering buying at full price and playing this weekend.
I Personally think with more development time they could have got this game optimized properly it not running at 60fps when the original did no next gen and they are in the same engine and loot identical in terms of graphics no excuses
Just finished, Wow what a wave of emotions. Special game and thanks Matty for putting this game on my radar. Makes me sad how many people are going to miss out on this one
I agree. As much as I love God of War and Elden Ring, this game is just made with so much love and passion, and the experience was gripping and heart-wrenching. Definitely one of my favourite games of all time.
I can’t wait to play this!!! Thank you Gamepass!!! 💚
I think overall - Elden Ring is better game, but Plague Tale Requiem is seriously one best narrative driven games in past decade. Not even fucking joking - can't name a single franchise in general (so both Innocence and Requiem but with emphasis on latter one) that grew on me so much emotionally. Absolutely great set of characters, great writing - especially in Requiem and seriously - Amicia is now one of favorite video game protagonists of all times for me personally - absolutely legendary tier character.
Wait this over Elden Ring? Matty did you forget Elden Ring was a 2022 release and not 2021. I mean come on bro, what is this? Honeymoon phase? One is fresh in your memory and one isn’t? I know Plague is good and all, but Elden Ring bro.
Not my tipe of game i thought. But i was wrong.Finished it in two sittings.Never felt bored or frustrated. And the graphics is fantastic.Played on XBSS.
Looking forward to enjoying this game through PC gamepass soon😀
Now we all love ELDEN but personally I voted this for GOTY2022, simply because I can relate to an Elder Sister / Younger brother dynamic of a story.
THIS is how you write a story with a "bad"/"unhappy" ending! Not like TLOU2
I played the original back when it first came out and i purchased it. Kinda forgot a lot of it so i need to replay it to refresh my memory. Then i will play this one for sure once it comes out on Game Pass then more than likely will buy it like i did for the first game.
It's comes to game pass tomorrow 👍
I'm on Chaoter 3 it's incredible.
Matty I really want to finish listening to what you have to say but your spoiling some of the plots in the story so imma have to stop the video. Thanks anyway buddy.
bro you got me so hyped on this game! I loved the first one but I was worried the second would be too familiar. Sounds like they hit it out of the park!!
For everyone that 👀 to the comment section you must know that 90% of the comments are under aged people, paid hypers and youtube bots.
There is now fucking way this is better then elden ring 😂 Matty always hyping game then say I was wrong about said game as usual
30fps though🤢
I'll be playing it via gamepass
But i hope it was worth the wait
Well, you’ve convinced me to try the first game, and if I like it I will for sure play this one
don't you have an series x? this game ran phenomenally on mine . love love love this game
Definitely one of the games of the year. An amazing and BEAUTIFUL experience. I don't think I've ever used Photo Mode so much...
Game of the year? Yeah right... 🤣
Played the first game off your recommendation over the summer and I loved every minute of it. Can’t wait for the sequel.
First game that's made me cry since rdr2 shit was 10/10 couldn't reccomed it enough
I am very happy to hear that this game will be everything I was hoping..really love the first one and I am so so excited to play this one!!
Its a great game, but its not better than Elden Ring and wont be better than GoW Ragnarok in 3 weeks
Alright I am pacing myself on this game mainly because of how wildly I am enjoying it. The first game surprised me, but had its faults gameplay wise. Still, for something coming out of a small studio, I could overlook the frustration I felt (A lot of that was my fault, I don’t think it was meant to be played on a keyboard and mouse.)
Requiem? Fffffuck. It fixes a lot of the gameplay issues I had. Improves the few issues I had with the voice acting (I much prefer Amicia’s accent). The story. Shit.
I think I am in minority who like LoU II. But even I can admit but the emotional beats that Requiem is hitting are the beats I expected from LoU II.
I can’t explain *why* this is different. It’s very much textural. But it feels less in-my-face about what it’s trying to deliver, like it’s giving room to breathe, while still very much delivering on the horror.
One of the best games i've played
Hey..... I'm emotionally connected to my damn Khajiit from Skyrim, so i won't judge you on being emotionally involved in these characters.
Looking forward to playing this tomorrow
Wow! Really happy about this! Better than Elden Ring though? I can't even believe that ....
Allot games I would put ahead of Elden Ring decent game but not on the level of Bloodbourne.
I loooovveed plague tale innocence. About a month ago I got my sister to finally play it since she got her hands on a series x and she couldn't stop playing. We both loved it. I already have the sequel fully installed and ready to go tomorrow. It's about 50 gbs for those that don't have the sequel already installed.
LOVE LOVE the first game.
I'm still playing it, currently on chapter 12. But so far the game it's amazing, and it rivals what Sony's studios have been able to put out.
Asobo came out of nowhere with this IP kicking a**.
If this is this years best game then it proves that 2022 was a crap year for games.
Aside from looking like GOTY material, this game is going to add real value to Game Pass. This is the kind of title that bolsters the target.
Matt forgot Elden Ring released this year.
Edit: I'm just playing through this game and I just want to say how great it is. It's definitely up there with one of the best story driven games I've played in a long time.
Played both, this beats Elden ring for me
What a beautiful story, what a beautiful game . Just finished it. One of the few games that really got to me on an emotional level.
lack of replay ability is common for linear titles, funny tho they get replayed more often comparing a 15hr gametime to a 105hr openworld.
One of my most anticipated game this year. I think you are exaggerating some things like Amicia being one of the most interesting gaming history but still looking forward to playing this
I finished it a frlew days ago and I was blown away by how much the story has to say. I'd love to see you do a spoilers breakdown I discussion of this game and really get into all of the symbolism, elements and message of the story.
I loved this review Matty and it made me decide to get it tomorrow 😍😊. I loved the first game, but I was planning to get this maybe next week because of busy schedule, but I don't think I can wait 😍😌🧡.
Another movie game getting too much praise. Then we complain how games are getting too handholdy now. Ide rather just go watch a movie. When im playing a video game im expecting more GAMEplay. Hard pass
"Easily 2022's BEST Game" Elden Ring fanboys heads are exploding!!!
Very boring walking simulator with a hell lot of whining. Bad writing bad acting. Play the first and forget the sequel.
Kind of true that. Partially.
"EASILY" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That´s because you haven´t played GOW Ragnarok by the time you posted this video.
And also didn't play elden ring
Elden Ring is the best game of the year by far. I love you Matty but no one thinks this is better than Elden Ring. Playing a story is just a yawn. All the footage looks like a must miss game. How is being told what you have to do a good game? You're losing me on this video Matty.
I WILL be playing this as soon as I get the chance. What an excellent review. The first one I couldn’t finish because it was taken off of game pass and I had exams to study for but I’ll watch a synopsis to play this ASAP
I really loved the first game so hearing the sequel is even better is very exciting. Can’t wait to play it!
Just finished and this game is a 7/10 at best. Too many glaring flaws to overlook. Clunky combat, shaky technical performance, mediocre dialogue, incredibly bland supporting characters, some very poorly designed levels/checkpoints, braindead AI, cartoonishly evil villain, lame collectibles.
We forgetting Elden Ring came out this year too?
That's what happens when a game releases at the start of the year.
Elden ring is over rated
@@shutup7349 your opinion is overrated

Incoming Elden Ring fanboys, it's his opinion people jeez.
I don't enjoy games like these with a linear story and no freedom. I can't get into them.
I finished Requiem today. A masterpiece
Only played first game for 5 minutes and then uninstalled not my type of game. Glad people have at least something to play on Gamepass.
I just finished it today...and i'm SHOOK.
The game is great only issue is it’s not 60fps on next gen and that sucks
I recently played Innocence, and apart from some frustrating sequences in the penultimate chapter, I absolutely adored it. Super excited to play this one!
For me, the boss fight at the end was, by leagues, the most frustrating part of the game.
@@Smitty_Werbenjagermanjenson Yeah, a very well done and atmospheric game really marred by that cliché, over-the-top boss fight there at the end.
Once you study the pattern of the final battle though you can complete it in 3-4 mins which is a bit too easy lol
@@Smitty_Werbenjagermanjenson That was a little annoying, but I preferred it to cart sequence. In the boss fight, I felt like once I figured out the pattern, it was just a matter of executing enough times to win. With the cart/archer sequence, it took me like 30 tries, and it felt like I simply got lucky when I FINALLY got through it.
stop...
Elden ring walks into the room.....
So stoked about this! It was a game pass find for me and as soon as I played it I couldn’t wait for the sequel.
