As a breeder myself, we don't. What do you think you will avoid if you did? We encourage our buyers to return our pups if by any chance if it was a mistake getting a pup, whether it's due to the pup or even a family situation. It's a way to keep track of our productions.

Charge! Please, not many will pay you to take a puppy back. I suspect they'll just abandon the poor thing or put it in a shelter. RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS will take back any animal that they created; you owe it to the animal.

Hummm I'm on the fence. On one hand you charge the fee and it may help recouped the time and money you have to put into Training away bad habits. But on the other hand you don't want to see your pup's going to the pound so the own can avoid paying a fee. You have a great fan base and could potentially re-home them to a family who would rather have a grown dog and speed pass the puppy stage. 🤷‍♀️

People want Cane Corsos because they think they’re cool dogs, and they are, but most people have no idea the hard work and care they require. Mine was a rescue at 9 mos. from one of my husband’s friends that were moving. He brought him home and I immediately said, “Oh hell nah!!!”😂 Well, he’s 3 now and I take good care of him but HE IS A LOT OF WORK!

That's common with dogs period. Humans buy dogs for all type of superficial, impulse reasons. Just vet potential buyers properly. I have an Akita. They are hard to care for. She is a female. I wouldnt sell Akita pups to any Tom dick or Harry. Samoyed is another difficult breed people buy cause it's "pretty".

As the owner of a 2-year-old 110 lb. male Cane Corso, I recommend that part of your screening process be a mandatory virtual Cane Corso Bootcamp, which includes a required site visit to the homestead. This must be completed before taking up a puppy (or, instead, a little soldier waiting for orders on when to defend and serve). By doing this, you can better screen potential adopters looking for lifelong companions and family guardians. To compensate for your and your family's time spent educating a prospective owner about the pros, cons, and other aspects of owning this fantastic "solider" breed, I believe the BootCamp should be an additional cost to the purchaser besides the puppy purchase price. Additionally, I think the stunning young woman you work with to train Cane Corsos will be a valuable resource for the Bootcamp. You should be able to charge the customer appropriately if they fulfilled all the requirements, came to the BootCamp, bought a puppy, and returned the adult or puppy to you for rehoming. I hope you find my recommendations helpful to you. After Kimichi was returned for rehoming, we recently bought her from you, and we are grateful that you chose us to be her new family. If we could have, we would have taken in ALL of your furry offspring, including the feathered ones.

There are pros and cons to charging a restocking fee. The biggest cons I see is the puppy ending up with another person who may end up abusing him/her, the puppy ending up in the shelter and being put to sleep. I learned that for every liter of ten puppies that are sold/given away, one will end up in a good loving home. I also found out that animals that are abandoned/returned have the same psychological effects as a three year old child. It’s a lot to think about on both fronts. People know they can’t afford to take and care for an animal but I believe it’s a “status” symbol, especially when they can get something from someone that is very well known. Just my thoughts.

I know it is work and you have to be committed to taking care of a Corso. Proper exercise, diet, clean up, maintenance, and just general care is work. I do believe in legitimate extenuating circumstances, no fees should be charged. Those circumstances could be death, maybe job or home loss, or even health issues for the owner. Not just be because it is decided an owner simply doesn’t want the dog anymore.

This to me is a simple fix, like all employees do on an application, they demand that you have an emergency contact if something goes wrong. I believe that not only the buyer should be interviewed, but there should be a minimum of 3 contingency plan members that should be interviewed as well just in case a married or relationship goes wrong or financial hardship occurs. If there’s not at least 3 creditable backups that agree to take the dog if It doesn’t workout with the owner the puppies should not be sold and each back up should be interviewed as well. I’ll call it a “3 tier system and you can check to see if the buyer tried to reach out to his contingency members before taking back the pup’s. Just simple thinking ahead to insure continuity of care is provided 👊🏾❤️

Taking the pups back from people who lack the means, the dedication, the will, and the love (need all four) to keep the pups will always be the better choice for you and the best choice for the pup(s). God bless you, Greg, and the rest of the homestead. Stay safe. Stay hydrated. Stay motivated!

As an outsider, you often have a rash opinion of what you should have done.
You see the beautiful girls who are given back for whatever reason. Personally, I think that if you have a dog like that (even though you know beforehand what breed you're getting) and you can't handle it or can't keep the dog, then it's a blessing that you take them back.
But dogs are not objects. They become family members who live with their families and are suddenly torn from this world.
This breaks their hearts and it takes time for them to accept their new life.
So it's really a blessing that you are there for them, give them understanding, new carers, respect, education and above all love and a home. ♥

This seems to be a touchy subject, but there’s multiple variables:
Sometimes it just simply doesn’t work out. Whether it’s circumstances, behavior, etc. A lot of people choose to hold onto dogs, instead of doing what’s best for them & their selves
Charging for a return, is a crazy concept. Most Owner’s are reluctant to return, even w/ a strict Contract, because they want to re coup what they spent
This is definitely a topic, I’ll have to make content about

Hello I have had my corso for a year now and has it been hard yes but also rewarding! Just my opinion … I have been knocked down and pulled down the street. I figured out how to get my corso to understand me and for me to understand him (training). I want to do what’s best for him you need to realize yes he is a big strong and I mean strong ( 125lbs) at 1 year old corso but still a PUPPY he needs to learn as well as I do. I’m not going to hold it against him!!! Twelve Titans Kennels handled it with dignity and grace !!!!
I also think people need to learn the strength of your loving big Corso puppy. As far as charging I think the family did right by the puppies by returning them to the homestead. I vote no. ( just my opinion least they were not abandoned! ) Love The Twelve Titans Kennels they are wonderful and compassionate!!!!! 💕🤗

I think you do a great job at striving to pick the right owners for your pups. Of all the puppies you have been blessed to sell as far as I can remember you have only had 2 returned, sounds like an amazing percentage to me! A kinda wish you could do a “restocking” fee but I wouldn’t want someone to get rid of a dog to avoid paying the fee. Better it go back so that it can be taken care of properly. In my humble non professional opinion 😉

Thank you! We actually had two other returns but we were able to immediately rehome them with existing Titan Families who jumped at the chance to take them. These were the first to actually stay with us. But I believe you're right, anyone giving up on the dog is not going to pay a restock fee at that point. I think the other commentator mentioned charging it UPFRONT. And I really think people would pay it but when they get in this situation they would STILL give up. *Sigh*

For me, your videos and the videos of others made me realize that as smitten as I am with the breed, having one would not fit into my lifestyle. I had to be honest with myself. We as humans seem to have trouble being honest with ourselves at times. Erika.... its the people and commitment. When I adopted my Cane Corso /Presa Canario mix from my local shelter, he was a repeat offender of running away from his home. It was so bad that animal control knew him at sight. When i got him, they only thing he escaped from was his crate... he wasn't about that life! LOL!! However he never attempted to run away from my home. As a matter of fact he would never cross the door threshold without my permission. He never once tried me and he was going on 4 when i got him. The CC and PC are two formidable breeds and i got the best of both in him. Unfortunately i had to put him down after 5 years due to his health. I dropped thousands on him before i did.
You had to reevaluate, train and whatever else in order to see if the dog could even be with another family and that cost. Yes breeders should take back their products but people should also think twice. These situations/circumstances were already brewing before the dog entered their home.

I think a good breeder should take their babies back no matter the circumstances. By taking them back they will be in safe hands. You don’t want your babies put in harm’s way like a shelter or backyard breeder. They deserve to come back home if things don’t work out. People go through hardships and trauma. We as humans can work ourselves back to a comfortable place. A dog or puppy cannot do anything on their own. They will always need a good human to take care of them. So this being said take your babies back. 💜

I think part of being a Titan is
having that good deep down feeling knowing you can give the dog back to where they are loved&safe.
There is absolutely positively no way to know if a baby is coming back. Things happen and its better to come back to you and not the shelter. Your vetting process is better than most.

Its a tough topic but not everyone should have a Cane Corso. However, I would hate for them to take them to the pound. When a dog isn't properly trained it will over all negatively effect the breed's reputation and name. Some shelters and pounds wont even attempt to temperament test Corso, this happens a ton in county shelters. I know lots of reputable Dog breeders do not want their dogs ending up in pounds and its stated in their contract for legal action may be taken if they dump or abandon the dog at a shelter or side of the road. It sucks because good breeders have to put in lots of time and work to rehabilitate a dog and deal with this, I feel for the situation at hand and the "owner" gets off light. Most people who get a working breed don't get that by 1 1/2 and 2 the dogs need the most consistency and thats what ive seen to be the sweet spot for people wanting to give up on them. I do know some breeders end up obedience training the dog and selling them at a higher price for the training, it will never be enough for the amount of work actually put in but its something people do get a bit more out of and some people willing to pay for. Wishing you and your family the best!

It's almost impossible to screen out inappropriate owners. Some people present really well and say all the right things, and others, who don't look so promising, could turn out be more responsible, committed and self-disciplined. I sympathise with your frustration, but I think charging to rehome would be a strong incentive not to return the dog. And Corsos are particularly vulnerable to meeting an early end if things go wrong.

    Straight forward feedback .
Could you do a download about how to choose a dog Corso and to understand its needs so that people who are
contemplating dogs understand what it means to own big powerful dogs that have natural guarding instincts .
I went to a dog show and there were two Kangals there ,
Ispoke to the owner read the dogs body language and became aquainted .
The Breeder , said would I hold her dog whilst she went in the ring .
The dominant dog was attentive , in sync with my energy and well behaved .
Does this mean I should get a Kangal . Hell no .
I can know I can handle the dominance and a large dog . What I also know from my twenty minute chat with the breeder was that not only do they need a job , they prefer to do that work on their own and need a big acreage even with introduction to newcomers well done .
So in the short time the interactions need to be understood .
A lady came over to speak to me . Thinking I was a handler for these dogs , and asked me how long I had worked with Kangals . Answer 30 minutes Awesome dogs but not for me . Same with Akitas .
The problem is could you do something to deter the return .
I admire people who work in dog rescues but some dogs if not taught how to be , may be difficult to rehome and correcting bad habits is a full time job in itself .
I knoq that you know Fenrir Training in the UK maybe some zoom assessment for payment may make people award if the pitfalls and what to do.
    .

As a former Boxer breeder I did not. I want to know where my litter puppies are located. If they did not feel comfortable returning one of the pups they could sell them, surrender them to local shelters, give them away to less savoy persons or just leave them behind. I taken back several dogs - one came back a 7 yr old intact male not in the greatest of health. I have been called from a rescue who pulled one of our dogs from a local kill shelter at 2 yrs. Rehoming contract is detailed with a communication clause, training clause, etc. I have been out of the breeding business for many years and am the proud mother of first a rescued Corso who is now 10 yrs old and a soon to be 2yr Corso I obtain from breeder as a pup. Favorite breed ever.

I don't think the prospect of having to pay a return fee will help the situation some puppy buyers will face. It could also result in some people freaking out completely and dropping the dog at a shelter, or even resort to selling the dog on Craigslist. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to have a Cane Corso because I have a family member who is afraid of them and I would worry about the dog picking up on that energy and then not listening to that person at all. As a result, I always have small dogs. However, I buy them on contract from responsible breeders who have return clauses in the agreement. Any dog can be returned without cause at any time during its life. Fortunately, I have never had to do that but I do know of situations where it's happened. I think you have to look at how many dogs you have placed in permanent homes over the years you and Greg have been breeding. A few dogs returned is a few too many from the dog's perspective but as a business it shows you are producing good, sound dogs. I agree about the emotional trauma inflicted on the dogs when they are rehomed but I have faith in the resilience of dogs. My first dog I owned as an adult was a two year old collie who was returned to his breeder after his owners divorced. He was a much loved pet and also following his parents' paw prints and earning points in the show ring. He was very confused by what had happened but eventually he grew to love my family and we adored him. That experience really taught me a lot about a dog's ability to adapt to living in a new pack. It was people who failed him but it was also people who saved him. A dog who knows their place in a family will heal from the trauma and be able to lead a happy life. One word of caution though; for the dog's sake they should have no contact with their prior family at all. Zero. Under no circumstances should that dog see, hear, or even smell them. They don't need any triggers that have a chance of setting them back emotionally.

Ok...here we go...have several things in this ole noggin. 1st & foremost...y'all are badass, found y'all right after y'all were moving to your homestead...man, y'all have come along way & have done alot of work...not just for y'all, but, for the Corso's & your critters. The information y'all give(for free) is great. Which has helped myself greatly. 2nd...like you said...people are the issue. There's a difference between ignorance & stupidity...someone who is ignorant...can learn. However, one can not fix stupid. There is absolutely no shortage of stupidity these days. 3rd...personally, I believe it's better for them to come back to you, damaged or not. I Have faith that y'all do as you do & get them back right. It's a whole lot better than some of the other things that could happen to them. Y'all are by far the best option. 4th...heard it said once...getting a Corso is like having a child(which is true) ya can not throw a child in the back yard & leave them to fend for themselves. It is a full time job. They want/need/require/demand your time, just like a child...honestly, at one time...I thought that I might have bit off more than I could chew, just kept my nose to that grindstone. Now, there's a badass next to me that is cooler than anything...he does his jobs well & takes them very seriously. 5th...still really would love to know exactly how the professor teaches them to wipe their mouths after drinking water. Lol...that rascal of mine...still leaves a trail of water throughout the house...yes he has me trained to sop up after him...believe he laughs each & everytime. Y'all are great...Thank you

I was a breeder myself, and my wife and I, had our buyers, sign a contract, basically stating, that if, for any reason, that they couldn’t or wouldn’t take care of the dog anymore, if the dog was fought, mistreated in certain ways, or was going to be surrendered, we had the right, to take the dog back, because first and foremost, it’s all about the dogs! So, in the end, I feel, that this was the best, for the dogs, overall!

Hello Erica and Greg. Well here I come to add an opinion. I would not charge a fee to take a pup back. My reasoning is I fear that the pup would end up being turned into the shelter or sold to somebody not in tune with a Corso. No telling where your babies could end up at...

I’m straddling the fence on my decision because if you ask me it enables these buyers to feel when they’re fed up they can just give up their dogs. If you’re going to take them back you deserve a return fee upfront that’s refundable after the owner keeps the dog a certain time frame. On the other hand I’m glad the dogs are returned to their breeders who still loves them.

We are looking to purchase a puppy from you in the near future so I better answer your question accordingly. When it comes to buyers wanting a Corso, initially its the sight and majestic presence which catches the eye, and rightly so. I think in addition to your already rigorous screening process, I think that the intended buyers should have a discussion with the Breeder surrounding the topic of the “ ALPHA and BETA in the family as it pertains to raising the puppy through adulthood. Most people look at dogs as an addition, a play thing, something to occupy the kids when in reality CORSOS are literally a different breed and DEMAND ongoing training, socialization, and attention throughout their lifespan. The Breeder should very poignantly ask of the family what being an ALPHA to a corso entails. I can only speak for me and my husband who only now have come to the point in our lives and careers that we can give this Breed the attention it requires. Its selfish of a buyer to look at this BREED AS JUST A PET. I think if its drilled into them the hours, expense, necessary socialization/surroundings, and ongoing care it takes to raise one. I believe some will acquiesce and find a more suitable breed to their lifestyle. Lets face it, there will always be the ones that feel they can do it, and for them I have no comment. But I think you do a tremendous job as a Breeder, and of course you have to take the dogs back as painful as it is for the returned Corsos. Nevertheless, its better than the alternative of placing this Breed at the ASPCA. Hopefully, I will be filling out a questionnaire in the near future. Thanks

Not sure if this is helpful or if this is just more of a hassle and a task for you and your family and program however there are some breeders that I have seen in Hawaii that required every family that purchases a puppy from them to do on site training with them specifically that way they are confident and comfortable that the dog is getting the appropriate type of training and they are able to see that the dog is moving forward in an appropriate situation . I realize that that's a lot and it works typically in Hawaii because no puppies can be flown off Island because of the strict regulations that they have and it's in a kind of a confined space again in Island however something along those lines might be worth pursuing

As in all dogs all breeds, its "COMMON SENSE", the Responsibility of the buyer ( KNOWLEDGE), to know what they're getting in to, to do their own research as to the type of dog ( breed) that they are purchasing. It sounds like a game/pre-planned 🤔. A big "IF"🤔. IF we find out that this breed is"Too much to handle ", we'll just make up something then ask for a return,Is ridiculous. No different than having a new born child. IF one doesn't take the time for obedience training that child will have little structure. After all you're not breeding chihuahuas. Yes, based on the reasons, that would be the determination of my final decision in refunding a percentage back, Not 100%🤔🙏. Perhaps you might try producing a video, maybe and hour long, that chronicles "a day in the life" of a Corso family. I think a CC is a breed you have to VERY WELL SCAN and review the people buying before selling them a puppy; A lot of people can fake anything to get through this too. They should have (1) knowledge of a basic book on CCs (2) make sure they have a plan for diet (3) make sure they have a proper income (4) make sure they have proper yard space (5) get an idea of their 5 year plans for future .. not for the dog but for themselves... a legitimate outline (6) add a rehousing fee clause so they know it can be done but will cost. I think some people that have the money to invest in that kind of a breed perceives it more on a superficial level and sees the dog more as a status symbol or how they will be perceived by others in owning that type of breed. It was stated that those people had done their research into the breed. If they had, then it's a matter of them running when the going gets tough and not willing to put in the work it takes to care for this breed. Or they just flat out lied to the breeder because they simply wanted what they wanted in that moment without real care for the animal itself. And how is the breeder to really know? They took precautions. People lie on documents all the time to get what they want. They lie straight to people's faces to get what they want.
I am not currently guardian of an animal but I do watch videos of those who train Rottweilers and Canes. Those people have very specific characters and have an intimate understanding of how dogs operate in general and even more detailed knowledge on the breeds they train. And unless those are the kinds of people making the life choice to take in this breed, then they have to be really strong people with the integrity and energy to put into training this breed as they should be. Protection/guard dogs requires one to go the extra mile with training and forging obedience and this breed responds much better to a true alpha (male or female), as their guardian. And the training method needs to be continued/enforced in the same style by all members of the family as the alpha that trained them or they can become confused/agitated/unsure of themselves causing other "bad" behaviors. Those are things I've learned by watching trainers of Rottweilers and Canes, so my knowledge with those breeds is limited and I have never been the guardian of any of those breeds to have real life experience. It seems to me that Kanes take a great deal of time, energy and great care with training.
If this question isn't already on the questionaire, maybe it should be added: WHY/what purpose do they want be guardian of a Cane Corso? And depending on their answer, are they willing to put in the time/energy it takes to train them and are other members of the family willing to enforce/assist with that training?
If they start engaging in "bad" behaviors, are they willing to put in the time and training for correction? Or would they choose to return the dog?
That's a bit blunt but a way to separate out those who truly understand the breed vs. those who are wanting them for other reasons. And then the breeder has an easier time placing the dog with the right family or person saving the dog undue trauma later on. Clearly this breeder takes great care in breeding them and sees them as the beautiful, sentient majestic creatures that they are and wants the best home for each one. It doesn't matter if prospective buyers get offended by questions. If they're serious, they'll know exactly why those questions are asked and actually have a care for the dog in question.

You can’t charge for returns. If you do, the previous owners will simply dump the dogs at the local shelters that don’t charge. The problem with that is those shelters are generally high kill shelters. Regarding interviewing prospective owners…… you do what you can. The questionnaire you use is pretty comprehensive, then you interview. You make a judgment call based on limited information. Being a breeder is as much a business as a passion. At some point, you have to let puppies go otherwise there is no business, and very few people are wealthy to the point that they don’t need any return on their investment. The Corso breeder I recently used bred a really nice dog, but that person wasn’t as comprehensive in their vetting. During the purchase process there was no conversation regarding returns, just ways I could lose the dog if I broke the contract. It’s a different mindset. I don’t know what that person would say if I put them in the situation the two families put you in.

"Being a breeder is as much a business as a passion" - very poignant and right on the mark 🏆

If you charged a fee to take back a puppy then the owner will simply dump the dog somewhere else for free end of story...also people lie so you cant ever 100% know someone is a good person adn can or will love and care for the dog which is why good breeders offer take backs.

Nope. That will lead to the dogs being abandoned. Just vet people properly. Dont let anybody just take on Cane Corso.

Interesting. Can you expound on "Just vet people properly"? What other ideas do you have that can be employed?
