One of the few albums ever that gets you rather emotional. If you understand the story and follow the lyrics.....plus THAT music...OMG. It should be made into a movie IMHO.
Ditto. People latch onto one bad reputation and then it spreads like wildfire. I’m sure others appreciate his voice as well but are too chicken shit to deviate from the status quo.
james labrie can be amazing for sure, and usually is in the albums. However, live he can sometimes be really really trash, but sometimes is really spot on and amazing, like in the octavarium tour- he was really amazing there.
Olly Rogers he had a horrible vocal injury during the awake tour which seemed to have permanently damaged his vocals. For me after six degrees of inner turbulence his vocals started getting really hit or miss, and live they were even more inconsistent.
I’m not a fan of LaBries vocals but Strange Deja Vu sounds empty without it. ;~; Also. Just saw DT live for the first time on Monday. I think I’m deaf now but it’s worth it.
Metalhead Nation 1021 Yeah man! It was my first concert, ever, and it was loud as hell. Had to get ear plugs from the coat booth in the lobby haha! But like I said, worth it.
I love how your ghost notes are louder than usual but still quiet enough not to become a standard snare hit. Great mixing! Oh, on a side note: PowerShifters are AWESOME!
I think you did a awesome job covering this awesome song .. you put so much feeling in every note you play .so inspiring..bim a drummer myself . But you did this well .. along with other covers also
Great job Josh. Some of those sections are just insane. I cant remember if Portnoy has said anything about your videos but this is surely one to be proud of and it would be great to get his response on it. Cheers bud!
Congratulations on 200k!!! You deserve it, and so much more!! You've been my favourite youtube drummer for as long as I've been playing. Keep up the good work :)
Congrats on 200k !!\m/!! Much deserved Josh!! You are one of the reasons I started too do drum covers too!! Cool cover here it sounds great as always and your drumming is always awesome!!\m/!!
Saw DT yesterday, probably the best concert I've ever been too. Mike Mangini really plays well and I think his playing fits the music really well. Also, Labrie's vocals sound exactly the same as the records. I think Dream Theater is even better live!
MechMonstrosity studio vocals are fine. I prefer DT studio to DT live, especially now with LaBrie having vocal issues and Mangini isn’t for me either. Shows like the Budokan were electric though
Yes!!!! I have waited for this!!! Maybe you could continue Six degrees of inner turbulence soon too? ;D if only you could do the full 42 minute thing in one video, that'd be awesome!
Josh Steffen As much as I love James, your disdain for him is hilarious XD I can't wait to hear that medley, you seem to have an excellent knack for creating perfectly flowing medleys! I've missed your medleys so I'm excited about this!
Could there be a better cover, ever?! I've been watching your covers for a solid 2, 3 years now, and this the best cover I've ever seen! Beyond this life would be fun to watch if you can find the stem without LaBrie!
Omg! First album from DT I’ve ever listened, and their best one! Maybe a full cover of Metropolis pt 2? You know, they sometimes play it in it’s entirety live... 😏
@@Fenixias No he does it because he lives that song. But many guys hate Labrie's vocals. For live, I agree, because a cow sing better live than him, he is really that bad. And his studio performance were after Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence also kinda hit or miss. Before his vocals were absolutely amazing though.
Yes daddy yes. Love this album.
+66Samus this was the album that got me into them. I couldn't believe it at the time.
66Samus your channel is beast. Like as in blast beats beast
@@joshsteffen5yt
This is just the best prog metal album ever!

Through her eyes... omg.
The plot was basically taken from a movie
@@umut_hmut No it wasn't. Name the movie, genius.
@@clearjet Dead Again (1991)? This is pretty basic information
@@umut_hmutMight want to read the plot of that again.
Unpopular opinion: I think James Labrie is amazing.
Joe Romano agreed. First time around listening, his vocals are kinds weird. But I love them. Especially his singing in Octavarium
Ditto.

He is in the studio but when it comes to live shows a cow could sing better
7:34 NAILED it. Good stuff.

Wolfie 1217 Hey man! Did you see them at the lyric?!? I was there too! In Baltimore!
Metalhead Nation 1021 Yeah man! It was my first concert, ever, and it was loud as hell. Had to get ear plugs from the coat booth in the lobby haha!
But like I said, worth it.
Wolfie 1217 Yeah man! What side did you sit on? I sat on the right side, and we could barely see John Petrucci!
Wolfie 1217 One more thing: Were you wearing a The Contortionist Sweatshirt?
Metalhead Nation 1021 nah. Also I was in the top left for the second half and in the back for the first half. Since my friends got separate tickets.
The best interpretation I have seen of this cover !!! This is how it has to be played !! Technical and strong!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on 200,000 Josh! You are my favorite RUclips drummer and continue to inspire us all every day! Can’t wait for the day you hit 1 million.
That kit sounds insanely amazing! And killer cover indeed!! 🙌🏽

man your snare sounds heavenly
This is your best work to date. I normally don't care for the way you "chef up" songs, but it's a great display of chops and timing. Well played, sir.
Wow Josh! You've developed a lot! From good to great!
Kudos from Finland!
Congrats on 200k! Been here since about 50k and still a huge fan. Keep on kickin ass, bro.

DUDE!!!! The snare Sound is so compact!
Yay more Dream Theater! Keep it coming man!
200k subs...you know what that means!
Also would like to see a Rest, Repose cover :D
It'd be interesting to see josh Cover oh Gravity or Hanging by a thread as they are the most interesting tracks drum wise from the album.
Josh is way too good for them
Saw MP play these songs live with his Shattered Fortress tour a week ago. Was vvvv nice. Good job dude
Congrats on 200k subs!
Yessss, so much Dream Theater! :)
Incredible bro. Incredible

Another great cover buddy. Keep up the excellent work! \w/
Hi josh, i think you should play some rush man.
Nice vid btw !
Nice Josh!! Great job
Awesome! Well done!!

+*insert name here* i saw them on the octavarium tour. Im sure i looked like a kid in a candy store
Josh Steffen Are you a fan of Mike Mangini or you prefer Portnoy?
check out his Mangini era covers and see for yourself.
In my estimation, you have done a great job.
You really are at the top of your game right now! That means it’s all downhill from here...
(Buzz killing is my business... and business is good)
Very cool and great cover ... so easy and energic felling ;)
My God... I hope you perform live shows Josh. That was absolutely incredible as always! It's nice to listen to Strange Deja Vu without LaBrie as well!
MechMonstrosity his singing on this song is awesome though ngl
I don't mind his singing at all in studio versions but he almost always messes up live ones... I listen to DT for the instrumentals mostly in general
MechMonstrosity studio vocals are fine. I prefer DT studio to DT live, especially now with LaBrie having vocal issues and Mangini isn’t for me either. Shows like the Budokan were electric though
Well done my Ladd !!!!!!
Very good !! Congratulations !!! 👍👍👍👍
you are a fantastic drummer!!!!
Those are some amazing sounding toms
Yes!!!! I have waited for this!!! Maybe you could continue Six degrees of inner turbulence soon too? ;D if only you could do the full 42 minute thing in one video, that'd be awesome!
emperoring112 i just constructed a 21-minute LaBrieless medley of 6° ;)

My dude you are just absolutely killing it with these Dream Theater covers I love it 👍 and please more SLIPKNOT
uygi q there’s not a whole lot of slipknot songs not covered by josh, but yeah slipknot is awesome
clown and the assholes need to hit the studio
Man, I loved the way you put a pinch of swing at 2:18, better than original!
Awesome ... You doin great ...!!!!
Very good play, respect from Norway
Could there be a better cover, ever?! I've been watching your covers for a solid 2, 3 years now, and this the best cover I've ever seen! Beyond this life would be fun to watch if you can find the stem without LaBrie!
No dude... I submit that you rule!! You fucking nailed it and added your little bits to it as well!!! You fucking rocked it!
Fantastic man!!👍
Yes! Awesome cover as always! I seriously hope you are not done yet with DT covers.
A lot of Dream Theater lately!!
your videos are awesome gave me inspiration to make a youtube channel keep up the great work Josh \m/
+KevDrums101 ;)
Man, you're Mangini's replacement, if he decides to leave DT. Fuckin' love your drumming, and that kit sounds awesome.
Did you kick up the tempo a hair? Sounds slightly faster than I remember. Not criticizing at all, that kicked ass brother!
Eric Ellis I can't really tell but if he did, he probably did it to avoid copyright claims.
It is faster
Yeah overture feels a bit rushed to me
I think it’s either faster or he is rushing slightly
@@wiggy009 Isn't that the same thing?🤔
Omg! First album from DT I’ve ever listened, and their best one! Maybe a full cover of Metropolis pt 2? You know, they sometimes play it in it’s entirety live... 😏
This is great !!!
dislike for the labrie hate. ):
but like because I can use this for singing.
good job as always
is it meant to be hate for the vocalist of Dream Theater? I just thought it's like this because it's easier to hear the drums without the vocal track.
@@Fenixias No he does it because he lives that song. But many guys hate Labrie's vocals. For live, I agree, because a cow sing better live than him, he is really that bad. Exelent my friend congratulations
Sick man! SICK!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Lars it up a notch, man, please! Everybody can do Portnoy, but only a few have the gift to do Lars.
Hey Josh can you do something pretty much forgotten off St Anger like Invincible kid ? Maybe feature the trashcan snare as well.
Awesome!!
you got it Josh.
How the fuck can anyone dislike your videos? You're so damn good!!!!!
CRAZY GOOD!
Nailed it 👍👍👍👌👌
yoooooo
this is lit *AF*
Portnoy was (is?) an amazing song(rhythm?) writer. You can "hear" melody on his drumming.
Literally the best in business
bom baterista... toca muito... ficou perfeito o cover...
Parabéns , showwww Brasil com você
Great job
If it's DT without laBrie we're looking for then how about some Liquid Tension Experiment?
friggen awesome
Amazing Bro!! \m/
I love when you go on streaks of covers from certain bands, especially DT and Metallica. Can we get some more A7X Rev era covers? ;)
Jason86906 I agree
great job
This Is goooooood!👍
200k subs! Been here since 12K
