Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the king of this crossover segment!
Sykee
Porsche Macan is better 🤷🏼♂️
@@bbxg6228 you can't fit in the back seats, dealers are double the price at every visit, and still weighs 100kg more (at least).
@@bbxg6228 The Stelvio 2.0 petrol with 280bhp drives and handles better than the macan
@@bbxg6228 I'm pretty sure the Macan holds it's value better... but the lack of space in the rear seats is a concern for me, and not practical for an SUV.
Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio is a new benchmark ...
Wow 1660kg? That's like 500kg lighter than some SUVs!
I bought a stelvio yesterday… the 2.2 diesel kicks ass!! Feels like a smallish sports bmw or merc….
An excellent comparison. Thanks for the video.
Hold on....Stelvio 6.1 to 60 with 210 Hp and 1600kg? That's crazy
Another reason for this is the brilliant ZF transmission
Nice to see the guys back, and really good and unbiased test as well! Well done.
Alpha??? ALFA ROMEO! Alfa= anonima lombarda fabbrica automobili.
ferrari466 ma che stai dicendo??
simone s perché cosa ho detto? Questo è il significato o l’acronimo di alfa : it.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo
@5putput My Friend, one of bigges Alfa romeo's funs , is Jeremy Clarkson....You are so bad informed...
Finally a car company that understands that on demand AWD cars should primarily be real wheel driven. Scumy Germans put that FW-biased Haldex into everything and save the RW-biased Haldex for superexotics only.
They both look pretty nice in those outside driving shots.
Nice video! Two of my favourite and handsome looking SUV...
really happy 5th gear is back 😀😀😀
Super happy to stumple upon this episode airing on Quest this evening. Great to see the old talent with current content! Honestly, the section on changing the ignition systems seemed a bit pointless beyond entertainment. Perhaps it would be better if it went in a more topical direction showing how modern systems work. It could go a bit nerdier and still fit the fifth gear ethos.
Overall the show was great and I'm happy the formula's not been messed with. Looking forward to more.
“Alpha Romeo “
Now that’s an autocorrect embarrassment
DJ not the first time they spell it wrongly
Alfa...Not Alpha
Henrik L the original video title said Alpha
@@henrikl1394 I think they used googles spelling correction. :)
Great review chaps, because as everyone knows, track times have a great influence on consumer SUV buying decisions.
Jeez chill man it’s a fun video to watch why u hating for no reason lol, because u can’t afford them?
They are poitless cars anyways
You are absolutely right this is a pointless test. While the review was interesting no one buys these cars based on there track ability.
it's the only review testing the car on a track, while every others are testing it in a straight line, which is really pointless. plus it's the only SUV that handles well, so it's good to see to which limit it can get. Circuit performance is a direct indicator for driving pleasure
Jacuar and Alpha, looks like very professional car channel
Alfa!
yes, finally a new season !!
Welcome back fifth gear team
Thanks !
both great cars! but stelvio number one and f pace number 2
I love the Alfa Romeo Stelvio:) Its a wonderful car guys! Please open your eyes!
Why didn’t they compare this Alfa to the 240hp F Pace? Much closer call.
Quadrifoglio vs SVR would be great.
I had an Alfa Giulia and I bought a F Pace. The F Pace drives like an old carriage. I am buying a Stelvio now!
Why don’t pick Jaguar F Pace V6 supercharge or the SVR V8?
5th gear rules !
5th Gear team - you should have pitched the alpha against the 237bhp f pace 2.0 Diesel as its a much better match for power and performance (not price)
The difference in price is why they didn't review them together
Then they should have used the 280bhp Stelvio... which would have won again... by an even greater margin... except fuel economy.
Hiw is that a fair test?
Alfa it is
You had to test the gasoline versions!
i would suggest to use the 237 bhp f pace for this as it has similar 0-60 times
It will lose anyway
yoof01 what about 2.9 biturbo v6 Quadrifoglio 510hp and Maserato Levante trofeo v8 biturbo 590hp....
Carlo Calò Levante looks so ugly that’s why there aren’t many of them on the road. Porsche Cayenne would be a better choice, but the Jag is the best looking SUVs in the market right now.
Carlo Calò or how about Jaguar XE project eight? Fastest four door around Nurburgring.
237bhp Jag much more expensive than the 2.2 Alfa which is why they didn't test them together.
ALFA RULES!!
alfa romeo despite some percieved and perhaps accurate reliability issues is building amazing cars at bargain prices compared to the competition. The stelvio is the best SUV since the cayenne and its the sportiest out there right now!
Get stig to drive it. :3
Dude, A is for efficiency, you have to put it in D
"Jaguar is more agile than the Alfa.........." LOOOOOOOOOOOL
ahahah
Of course it is. No understeer even on the SVR. It walked all over the QV in another comparison.
@@christianolsson834 Rediculous! The standard Stelvio is about 200kg lighter than the F-Pace, and handles much better. And the 2.0 280 is a rocket... 0 to 62mph in 5.7s.
The Quadrafoglio is also faster than the SVR, and held the fastest lap of an SUV on the Nurburg Ring in 2017.
? why not compare the F-Pace SVR vs. the Quadrifoglio version? Not that interested in seeing base models do laps...
Really... "ALPHA"? You're a car channel... *SMH*
Lol
Oh come on. It's a tribute to Lancia.
Since you don't know how to spell Alfa, what do you know about them?
Both amazing cars, although I strongly prefer the Alfa. I wonder why would they ever put the 2.2L Diesel engine in a shootout? The 2.0L Turbo is far superior and much more powerful. That's just a shame.
Diesel engines are much more common and cheaper to run in the UK. They would not feature the 2.0 petrol engine in a review over here because hardly anyone would buy it.
Just see how "pace full" he drives the Stelvio with one hand and how he struggles to keep the i-pace on track. The body and head motion cannot lie and patching front rear unbalance with electronic garbage is an Audi type front heavy failure..Stelvio has biggest rear overhang and short cutted front of all SUV's, by far and the Nordschleife winner...only 20sec. slower than a Guilia Quadrifoglio better top speed but harder on tyres with higher CG height. Who said dogs???
ALPHA? come on guys...
This is a mistake for amateurs really...
Video uploaded by some intern who couldn't give less of a damn about cars. Alpha? Seriously? At 0:22 there's even a shot of the Alfa Romeo logo.
For god's sake; Alpha... It's not a Lancia guys...
perfect - thanks for this.
So who chooses a SUV based upon lap times?
Me

Someone tell Johnny he has lost 30hp on the Stinger GT. 😂
Diesel sport cars? Jeeez... you guys have really lost it.
When does it say alpha
Wondering which would be better at driving up and down a quarry cause these two have to have a little offroad capability even though for the most part they're going to see tarmac or city streets.
Probably the jag, there'll be some land rover tech in there and they have more than enough experience in that field unlike alfa who only have experience in electrical fires.
stephen robson ikr lol Alfa has never really been good in the reliablity dept.
Just go for the Jag cause it's a Jaaaaaag. 😏
@@stephenrobson6480 depends on ground clearance and eventual reduced gear for doing swamps and rocky trails, other that for gravel, snowy road Lancia used to do rally racing, so there is tech available ...
1:14 - listen to the quality. Sounds like they just threw the interior in the back without bothering to bolt anything down.
Jaguars with left steering wheel have massive issue. Driver legroom is limited meaning pedals are towards centre so operate acclerator your right leg is in weird angle as centre tunnel gets wider clpser to the floor. Literally any drive over 15 minutes is very uncomfortable. As pedals are offset it also means breaking is compromised as steering column is in the way of knee. Massive dissapointment and engineering failure, seems to be issue with other models sharing same interior. Even with Alfas quality issues, Jag loses out no matter what you do.
What about the Porsche Macan?
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Qv destroyed the Macan gts on the circuit.
Not necessarily a brilliant comparison, not between the cars in general, but the particular models tested. Stelvio was in sportiest trim with the more powerful diesel, F Pace was in the softest, most luxurious trim with the run of the mill diesel. If it was like for like, it would have been a lot closer.
Stelvio is not a Diesel
oops - it is a Diesel, my mistake.
The F-Pace more nimble than the Alfa?
Really?
🤔
I have one f pace
You lost me at "DIESEL"!
Drive the QV, it'll be worth to get out of bed (garage)...
No one has ever given me a satisfying reason as to the point of an SUV that can't go off road. As far as I'm concerned, both these cars are lemons
1.Space for multiple people/ going out with friends. Nobody wants to sit in a cramped crowded back seat.
2. Performance if you pay for it
3. Versatility for weather, as I live in a city where snow is on the ground half the year
@@ballinglikeimtobe4920 what about a AWD wagon and/or people carrier, surely those would do the job just as well?
@@Billiamiscool I cant think of any wagon that looks better than any of the SUVs(Macan, Stelvia, F Pace) I'm looking to buy right now. I'm also looking for speed.
@@ballinglikeimtobe4920 Merc E63
@@Billiamiscool it's obviously a nice car but I guess I just dont like the elongated look of station wagons. The name station wagon even sounds unattractive lol
I can understand why some spell Alfa Romeo as Alpha, its simple, because ALFA ROMEO is the ALPHA & OMEGA of the motoring world.
Kenneth P nothing beats the Delta though🙃
Alpha really!!!???!?
2of the greatest names in the motor Industry and huge names in motor sport , and this is the shit they're making now ! Sickening :(
Autocorrect for you
Fun and all, but being realistic, you didn't cover anything related to what would a family need in a diesel SUV like these two. what are you even doing?
Diesel engines? Really?
:(
We ignoring the fact that they are reaching Diesel models
I would like to see the turbo v6 alfa go around the track
Es el plaser de conducir un Alfa Romeo es unico
Porsche Vw BMW far away
Why test slow diesels on a track?
Should be called F....... SLOW PACE
They do a SVR 5.0 supercharged version aswell!

Alpha? Wut?
Why don't you use the performance model. Maybe then u could actually do that u want and compare them to their brand heritage. Makes no sense at all
that would make too much sense. pitiful video.
Alfa+Italy =♥️
Faster, cheaper, but, which would you really want? Trust?, is more reliable?....?🤔
How bias towards jaguar
This seems like a pointless way to test diesel SUVs...
Who cares about the diesels?? Love the cars choice. Dislike the engines.
Okay. Knew the Alfa would be faster. But not with such a margin.
Stelvio lupo alpha 🐺
I’ll take one of each please. One to drive while the other is in the shop.
F-Pace weights the same as whale, no bomb there. Same with F-Type, they really know how to make heavy cars.
Stelvio best SUV !
f-pace 35t vs any of the stelvio models wins (SVR vs QUADRIFOGLIO = SVR every time as well)
Alfa rules!
The Jaguar drives so good because it is so slow.
The 3.0V6 diesel drives even better and that is not slow at all.
If I'm after an engagement car to drive I wouldn't take SUV any way... lets put it that way: if it is Giulia vs XE no doubt I'll take the gorgeous italiana... but Stelvio vs F-Pace... well the Jag is just the better SUV and the track time is not relevant to my choice
Lap times of SUVs with diesel engines. 30 hp and 130 kg in difference. This should be an awesome comparison, right?! Not really ...
130 kg more or less? ifJaguar did not do better it is not Alfa's fault
Hmmm... Stelvio and F-Pace are comparable cars... and appeal to the same types of buyers. So doing a comparison is very helpful! 🙄
Alfa Romeo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Given both the power and weight advantage enjoyed by the Alfa, what was the point of this foregone conclusion exercise? Sure, Fifth Gear needs content however, track time, although interesting, is largely nonsensical. Surely fit & finish including comfort levels and economy would be the relevant aspect for a purchase decision? FFS.
von Coconut They don’t have time to get into all that, they are race drivers with limited time. If you want facts figures specs etc... look at the countless reviews on RUclips car channels. Most of those reviews don’t put the car to test like these trained professionals.
So stop being a moaning whingebag.
Alan B. A little critical thinking wouldn't come to harm here, Alan. Why would race drivers with limited time waste that time getting lap times from a couple of oil burning SUV's? Millions have been spent in the design and manufacture of these cars and none of that effort had Jason Plato and Anglesey circuit in mind. The episode was a dull as dishwater however, if it caused you excitement why not take a garden chair to the nearest roundabout and watch the traffic go by. Incidentally, the answer to your question as to why 'trained professional race drivers' waste their time doing this - to everyone's embarrassment - is because it puts bread on their table.
I'm looking at buying either an F-Pace or Stelvio. My decision will largely be based on driving experience. And this video was definitely helpful in that respect. Think about it...
Seriously, what is the point of a 'shoot out' between underpowered cars? The only people who buy these underpowered versions DONT CARE about shootouts. Get the topline Alfa SUV and put it up against the FPace SVR. any other comparison is simply worthless.
wow Alfa!
Totally pointless test 😂
Why the worst lowest powered variants? Utterly pointless video.
Everybody loves Alfa’s cars but nobody buys them
Alfa is ALPHA AF LMAO
why the fuck diesel engines?
Alfa Romeo Stelvio !!!!!!!!!!!
The Jaguar feels so nimble because it is so slow.
Alfa Romeo, lui non parla italiano.
Totally unfair two completely different engines and output
I think they're both very capable handling SUV's and that's the whole point of this video.
Not at all unfair. They are comparable vehicles... if you want a 2 - 2.2 l diesel Stelvio or F-Pace. In checking out these two models... though I'll probably go for the 2.0 280 Stelvio... as it's the best handling and best performance for that size engine.
