That method of leaving a comment of potential bits to cut out if it's crucial is actually something I do a lot when video editing, marking off bits that I can get rid off if the video ends up feeling too long! I should try applying it to writing, not that I'm anywhere close enough to the final draft where I need to be cutting out words :P
Also the footage of your camping trip was absolutely gorgeous!

    Hi, Sara!
Just finished binge-watching all your writing vlogs across the past couple of months. I watch them while I work on my own novel series and they are so helpful in staying motivated. I really love how you have been so consistent in sharing your process. You are one of the most inspirational people on authortube. It's rare to see someone who is so diligent and steadfast in their determination to get their novel published.
It is so easy to get bogged down by the opinions of others about how fast we're publishing books or how many drafts is too many. I have seen so many authors who start and stop books constantly and never quite get anything published because of the online pressure to always show yourself advancing at such a rapid pace; and others who rush to publish one book a year but never quite put the time into their books to really have them shine. In most cases, the pressure to perform for authortube influences these types of scenarios. I've really seen you resist this kind of pressure and stay true to yourself and your vision. That is not easy to do, but you're doing it.
After you complete your debut work you are going to be such a seasoned writer. You will have learned so many lessons by entering draft after draft, especially drafts 4-7 (and beyond) that most writers NEVER get to because we lose focus or try to rush the process. I have no doubt that this focus and commitment will pay itself in dividends later on. After this WIP, you will without a doubt be a faster writer, but you will also be able to produce fast AND quality work like few do because you put in that time and effort here to learn all the lessons the right way. You haven't taken any shortcuts and your growth shows.
I hope you know there are 20,000+ subscribers who have seen you EARN this debut who will support you, celebrate when you get a book deal, and buy your books traditionally published or self-published down the line. I genuinely am so impressed that someone who is close to half my age has such tenacity that they can balance an entire successful youtube channel, freelance work, familial/platonic obligations, HAVING A PERSONAL LIFE!!!!, all while having a relentless determination to polish their debut novel/series to such high standards. You inspire me daily.
I wish you all the best. ((hugs) :)

Yeah, editing by hand can definitely help slow you down. When writing scenes by hand, I usually leave some extra space to do some edits before transferring to the laptop. Idyllic scenery, by the way.

Good morning, Sara and happy Friday! Thank you for sharing while on your camping trip as the scenery looked wonderful and peaceful. I've missed seeing you and watching your vlogs, plus it sounded like you were almost done editing draft 7 of Project DE and you'll be able to take the next step towards getting it published. Have a lovely day and as always happy writing. ❤

If you take out whole sections/scenes, then you can have complete things for leads or bonus materiel for newsletters or back matter. Good luck!

I wish I could overwrite. I'm a sever underwriter. My first book was a collection of short stories and it was only 35K words. Aiming for 40K for the second book.

Congratulations on the slimming down of the word count.
The visuals of Moab are almost ASMR ... I had to lay down and nap.

Why cut exactly 12000 words? It's just a specific number and I'm curious if it's like a trad publishing thing where certain genres have like a word or page limit that authors need to hit?

From her latest videos, she has been cutting down on videos to query for trad pub. I think the ideal limit is 100,000 and DE is over that.

The goal was to get to 110k-ish because the book was well over that! And for traditional publishing standards for a debut author, close or under 100k is ideal
