- The Winston PURE 2 is the latest rod from RL Winston and embraces a tradition of soulful vibes from a company with 95 years of tradition. It's a slightly more responsive update to their timeless model, the PURE.
We enjoyed all the rod models, but the 8'3" 5 weight and 4 weight stood out as some incredibly accurate dry fly models when paired with a RIO Gold or an SA Standard Trout taper fly line. These rods shoot nice loops at variable speeds and intensities. Lots of room to play around in these actions.

My favourite rod is still my Winston B3X after all the years I’ve had it. Would love to try one of these.
Oh that is a wonderful rod, I remember the year that came out. Super rod, the PURE 2 will actually perform quite similar with a much lighter swing weight. It won't handle heavy rigs quite as well but we would be splitting hairs.

Another great review! How does the Pure 2 - 8’3” 5 wt rod compare to the Scott G Series for Spring Stream fly fishing?
Not sure in comparing it to Scott, those are wonderful rods but I'm not experienced with those beyond playing lawn darts with them. The way I hear people talk however, the application sounds identical. Touchy rods for mending and casting fairly delicate flies.
Are the pure 2s such a drastic improvement over the pure for dry fly only? The og pure has been the best dry fly rod I've ever used, thanks!
It's subtle, not life changing. Nobody needs to run out and replace a fine rod thinking its the "best new thing ever", but if somebody was starting fresh and looking for a fine rod for accurate, delicate casts with the ability to mend dry flies without sinking them... this is a super choice.

Ha she is great, never took to fishing as much as my boys. Likes deer hunting, prefers skiing.
I've try the PURE 9' #4 in 2019 and for me it's not a medium action, more a medium fast and really heavy in hand.
And the paradigm from T&T is really soft.
When winston create the new pure 2 i was thinking they changing action for more soft action but no... That's more stiff...

Im sure its a great rod but i might just pick up a discounted pure1 which also seems great especially for a quintessential trout bum.
Oh yea if you can get the OG Pure that's a super buy and a super rod.
