Aaron, thanks for the video. I am currently searching (researching) windows and your video was very helpful. All other videos I watched was someone just plugging their product or company and you just wanted people to know what to watch for. Thank You.

Richard Kelly ..windows are a major investment for your home no matter how small or large. always good to get as many "written" estimates as you want ~ to review and be sure of the product you want/need.( Any climate issues for your area?) AND make sure the installation crew are experienced...know what the hell they are doing?

I used to buy windows made from wood, same wood I would build my outhouse. Then I would seat on my soon to be recycled toilet seat.

Excellent advice anybody buying a window regardless of the manufacturer "WARRANTY iS KEY" Not sure when double and triple pane windows came out, I think the manufactures know it's almost impossible to keep condensation out. We experience this with a top brand company not only us the entire housing tract. We were lucky the manufacture was down the street. We bought the house new it's been 28 years now just sold it. I would say we started having problems after 3 years of purchase, remember just not us the entire tract. This has continued the entire time of owning the home. HOWEVER it did settle down over the years. Last time the manufacturer came out, had 9 windows replaced NO COST!. The problem you get into if the manufacturer is not not down the street it becomes he said she said it's the builder's fault no it's the manufacturers fault. I was told by the manufacturers repair guy they knew of this serious problem. Over the years they were experimenting with different types of applications from preventing this. So now we sold our home building a custom one and reading all of the complaints of windows we are strictly looking at "warranty". As Aaron says read the fine print I thought I was the only one picking up on this. I was looking at a Simonton window. I thought it would work for us. As Aaron explains buried in the page in of half BS LIFETIME "LIMITED" warranty did you just here that "LIMITED' how to they get away with that. And to boot CONDENSATION & SEAL NOT COVERED! REALLY! So basicly you don't have a warranty. Print all this BS you read on social media as well and present it to the sales rep see how they react. I had one guy just slam the phone on me he had no words just argument. I was catching all his BS. Sure you here all the negative comments nobody hardy writes in or post say we love our windows. However after reading the same complaints over and over it's most likely ture.

Perfect Example of "Life time warranty" From Pella
    1) repair or replace the defective part(s) or product(s) (with cost
of labor included only within two [2] years of the date of sale by Pella or its authorized dealer) or 2) refund the original purchase
    price.

Windows 101 - Top 3 Mistakes Customers Make When Choosing Their New Windows
    Mistake #1:
They think, "A window is the window is the window. They're plastic and it's all the same!" You just look at them and wonder, "How much money do these people want to make on me?" So you go in and buy the cheapest crappy windows available anywhere just because it's cheap. But the truth is, you'll end up buying windows made from recycled toilet seats and toothbrushes and it's not going to last you a very long time. It does not matter how much money you spend, what matters is how good the windows are that you get. So mistake #1, all windows are not the same.
    Mistake #2:
Nobody looks at the small print in their warranties. You might be very happy to read, in huge 70 point font, "LIFETIME WARRANTY"...well, go down the list,...down,... down, and on the bottom of it, there is a paragraph, "EXCEPT for natural weathering and atmospheric conditions. Which is everything under the sun. So why would you buy something that promises you a warranty when the next sentence in the small print cuts it all out? So basically you are buying the windows without any warranty. If something does happen, you can of course pray to God that nothing happens and that you will be perfectly fine. But if God forbid something happens, you're on the hook. Why? Because the contract says that you purchased windows that are affected by sun, and daylight and fresh air and salty water which are not covered by the warranty.
    Mistake #3:
Make sure that you know exactly what you buy. This this is important is because people come to your home and show you a brochure, "Here's our beautiful brochure, wait, this one's even better. This girl has her leg this way, this guy has his arms spread out," It's not important how good the picture is. It's important is:
    A) Who makes the windows? Are they really the manufacturer of vinyl windows and doors?
    B) From what material? Are they vinyl windows and doors? Is it wood or fiberglass?
    C) Who is responsible for installation?
    D) Do they break out the stucco when they install it?
    E) Do they install your new windows inside your old windows and make it much smaller?
You have to research the most critical elements. It's not all about money. Money is VERY important, but even more important for you is to get something really good for your money.
    Thank You,
Aaron, RMO of California Deluxe Windows®

One big tip: dont go to lowes. This guy failed to emphasize that poor installation is usually the main reason windows leak....know about flashing tape for waterproofing and insulation around the new install (whether low expansion foam or fiberglass strips)...make sure it is clearly stated in contract. if u dont want to take a shortcut, look into full frame windows (aka new construction windows) which include nailing fins. what they call "replacement windows" r a cheaper way to go

Any suggestion for a budget of $600 per window without installation. Size 35"X60". It seems every window i research is flooded with negative reviews. Pella, WeatherShield, ViewPoint. The things is windows are not going to fail immediately and when they do (years down), the pissed off people will come back to make negative remarks. However, the happy customers prob forgot who they made the purchase from. That being said, you have a higher chance of seeing negative reviews (my theory). Any advise?

Just because they are vinyl doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Vinyl holds up much better than aluminum. The paint wears off and it starts oxidizing. Pgt windows are what we are getting. By the way, one sign of a scam company is loud salesmen who name their company Premiere, Deluxe etc. Quality speaks for itself, like Berger Windows and Doors

How can I verify that the vinyl is virgin vinyl? I find that window salesman lie a lot.
As for warranty, they except acts of God, they expect that insurance will cover it.

    • @Dbulkss
      @Dbulkss 7 лет назад +1

Recycled Vinyl or Reground Vinyl is thinner and also gets discolored easily. Virgin Vinyl will be THICKER. Does not discolor easily. Only issue with vinyl frames is the color options are very limited to white or almond. Any other color will not last you very long. Ask them where they get the vinyl from. Top brands like Ply Gem have the best in the business. Or you will notice around the 5 to 10 year mark the windows starting to lose its color. VS 20 to 30 year mark. Hope this helps
