Introduction to colour sketch. Studying Sargent.

In this video, Xavier Denia will give you some indications on how to choose and prepare the mixtures. We will also talk about how we organize our palette. Then, you will see how to start with a basic drawing, the underpainting, and then add the large masses of colors in an organized way. We hope you enjoy it!

La verdad es que hacer esto conlleva mucho trabajo (sobre todo la edición y el cortar los momentos muertos para hacer el vídeo mas corto). No disponemos de mucho tiempo, y el trabajo no es remunerado, lo hacemos porque nos gusta. En estos vídeos tratamos de compartir lo que hacemos. Todos los vídeos han sido grabados con estudiantes delante ya que son demostraciones echas en directo en clase. Personalmente yo preferiría hablar en español, ya que me siento más cómodo, pero en este caso no podía . De todos modos trataremos de subir pronto algo en español. Un saludo!

Hi Francisco. My teachers used it, and i like it, for skin tones it is a nice colour. For under painting you can use other colours, experiment and see how they work and wich effect give to you. The main point it is just be focus on drawing with just one colour becose it is easier to control. If also you can use som parts of the under painting for the final painting it is even better. Burnt umber it is a perfect alternative. Best regards!!

Hi. We were learning this from diferent artists, books, tutorials and our experience. We can recomend you the book of james gurney " colour and light" that is very good. For this one there is not another step. This was a small colour sketch. We will try to make a portrait painting descriving more also how to descrive specific zones and forms. Best regards!

Thank you for this demo. Which medium do you use to make your paint so easy to put down on the surface ?

Hi. Here I use trepentine at first. Then, after covering everything, we started using half turpentine half oil (I don't remember if in this demo I did it, and then I used only direct paint without mewdium). I can use more paint because I mixed my colors, and I have more paint. If you mix with your brush, you will mix less paint than with a spatula. This is a matter of choice, but for now we work like this.

Hola Diana, esperamos que hayas podido sacar alguna idea. Tomar los subtitulos nos toma muccho tiempo, tardamos 1 hora para subtitular bien 5 min, lo hicimos en algun video, pero no tenemos tanto tiempo. Intentaremos hacer otro video de otro apunte de color en español lo antes posible. Un saludo!
