That's not to say that the 5-series should look like it, not at all. G30 5-series was so much better, but the 2-series GC isn't exactly ugly either.

I really dislike these big square screens with no design language. They don't fit into the interior at all and will just look outdated and bulky once the next gen infotainment is out.

I'm holding on to my 2020 G20. Was considering a new car, but which one? Other than the 8 series I don't like anything BMW makes now, and I don't have 8 series money.

The same sentence was said when that generation was new. I think that you get used to things. But I also agree with you, right now I prefer the old generation. Same thing with M3/M4, I still doing like the grille, but I'm getting used to it and can overlook it better now.
So the M135 gehts 4 exhaust tips (4 cylinders) but the 550e gets no visible exhaust pipes, even though it has 6 cylinders? I cant wrap my head around BMW design these days.
Hopefully people stop buying these stupid designs. maybe it'll make BMW change though I doubt it

This one doesn’t have exhaust tips because BMW doesn’t think that belongs on a hybrid luxury sedan, this is a completely different purpose car than the M135 which is a sport hatchback
The M550i was easily the best car in the entire line-up, got all the comfort and practicality with insane performance, much more street friendly compared to the M5.
How is a 5000 cc street friendly? Do you drive in the desert 😂?
@@PatrickArcato Im obviously talking about the chassi/suspension, the M5 is incredibly stiff while the M550i is abit more versatile and got more comfort.

people seem to try and hate every new car that comes out. it's not a bad looking car at all it's just slightly different than what we're used to and that upsets litteraly everyone for some reason. I do hate the cheap plastics on the dash and door panels especially
Mate, the G20 and G30 were very well received when they came out. Now they ruined the interior of the G20, and the replacement for G30 is ugly as hell.

Well, to be honest, i think the E39 and G30 will continue to be my favourite 5-Series.
2 reasons it looks fugly:
1, design aimed at far east market;
2, battery adds lots of girth;
China are making their own cars now so hopefully European cars can go back to being something for Europeans.
this is a TU3 ( Technical Update 3 ) version of B58 and in this application i think it runs on Miller Cycle which is basically Turbo version of Atkinson Cycle - so that may be why it sounds different. the TU3 also uses dual injection ( port and direct ). TU3 is basically like if Toyota redesigned the B58 for efficiency and reliability, which considering the B58 is in Toyota Supra now might actually be the case LOL.

Efficiency and reliability, while holding the same power delivery is not bad. I'd trade sound for that. But I don't like this G60.
For all the people complaining about the design, I work in bmw dealership and we’re constantly selling more cars than ever before. I don’t like the new bmw design language either but the customers love it

All of BMW’s new models appear to have had a cost cutting exercise bestowed upon them resulting in noticeable quality downgrades on interiors and exteriors, why?, that is the question on BMW’s loyal owners minds, especially when you consider BMW’s ever increasing profits year after year it’s difficult to make an excuse!!
I'm sick of people referring back to the Bangle era everytime BMW ruins another model. Not even close to the same. Entire line up went from great to completely f....d in under 8 years. RIP
But the Bangle era is when BMWs looked the best. Put any Bangle car on the street today and it still looks current.
So in a nutshell BMW build a worse 5 series than the previous. Damn that motor sound does not come through at all.

Oh they are very comfortable. And oh my, I did take a seat in it and the leg room is amazing. Nothing compared to the new E-class. The new 5 series is better then the new E Class

I recently compared the new 5 Series with my 850-GC. Conclusion: BMW is not going in the right direction. Much of the equipment and design looks much cheaper, a lot of bling-bling like La Vegas. In addition, the 8 Series is easier and more direct to operate. There is also a lot of cheap showmanship in the exterior design of the 5 Series. I will therefore buy another new 850-GC or M8-GC with the wonderful V8 shortly before the model change and then drive it for years.
The 8 series is the only good car BMW sells now. I wish I had money for that, my G20 3 series from 2020 is due for an upgrade, but holding on to it for now, I don't like the new interiors. Will probably end up buying my first non BMW car in 8 years.

I think objectively the E class may be the better car in this class, but they are a few things about the BMW that make me lean towards it. The 5 interior feels like a complete package, not pushing you towards the larger 7. The E class however seems lacking in some crucial areas like the front seats. BMW also seem like they are finally putting some thought into reliability and long term ownership, which is crazy to see. Direct and port injection (huge factor for me coming from a lexus), no air ride, no rear wheel steer on the lower trims, no soft close doors, better fuel economy, lighter curb weight. As much as I like the E class, it's hard to overlook those factors.

I drove this last week and it disappointed. It’s big, it feels heavy, the interior isn’t that nice design and material wise. Ergonomics and infotainment are a disaster. Seats are nice though.
Been a 5 series owner for about 20 years and agree with vast majority of comments here, it's not just that it's ugly but the interior feels much lower quality, yet the price is significantly higher than the previous generation (I have an M540i with the B58 engine) with a properly specced M550e costing GBP 91k list price...that's just insane. Am not getting a 5 series when I change later this year, as I can't justify the price for what looks a bit like a big Kia
Can you do a test of the old model BMW E38 750I, acceleration from 0 to 100, and to maximum speed, driving and so on?
i sat in one, when it was released, not sure what to think, idea of bmw doing audi things with exhausts is not great either.

i got a 530 as a loaner the other day when my g87 m2 was in for service. 2 things really bothered me that i know will sound weird. the paddle shifters are EGGREGOUSLY bad. like Fisher Price/kids toy bad. and the new airbag covers are killing me. it looks and feels soo much cheaper than the lovely stitched leather covers of the past. such a shame. they are really pulling a Mercedes here.

The new Audi A5 looks much better, I just hope they will offer a six cylinder Diesel. I'm not a fan of 4 cylinder hybrids.
- there is no comfort seats option (multi contour) on new 5 series
- the comfort access lock on door handle for the rear doors.. only front door has the lock on the handle now..
- the hood does not have insulation cover from inside anymore
- no rear seat entertainment option (no rear screens option)
these are just some things that I quickly noticed when I visited the dealer
the previous generation was better and more luxurious in every aspect

I own 550e and still not digging the black plastics. It is simply making it look cheap. I cannot understand why bmw chose to use it in so big quantities. Otherwise though the desing has grown on me now that I've been looking at it. I actually really like it. The driving experience is also step up from G30 545e - feels stable and more supporting than it's predecessor. One of the biggest highlights is the added power and torque on the eDrive system - it is feeling rapid enough on electric only mode for daily driving.
'50' denomination should be a V8, this is a disgrace. B58 is for the '40' models...

The b58 used to be not so loud in non m-Performance Cars like the old 5series or the X5
Nah they were definitely noticeably loud. We still service them at my dealership and when they start, you know it’s a b58. Half the time you don’t even realize these new cars are started because of the EME rather than the starter starting the engine and how quiet they are.
The dealer near me has one of these and that interior is a massive downgrade. My brother had the last M5 and going from that to this is like going from a BMW to a Fiat.
It's a pity that you didn't meet the zeekr001 on the road with acceleration of less than 6 seconds from 100 to 200 km/h, it would have been an epic sight for fans of the BMW brand :)

I hoped this car would grow on me. But the more I see it time road the less I like it. When I see it coming in the back mirror I doesn’t have any of the mean look of g30 saying -get of my way.

This is a very nice powerful car. It is a huge car but feels not that huge. I like to design of the back very much compared to the front. The car is not available as Touring in NL and Germany, but maybe it could come.
Tansanite blue works with that car.

The thing I really don't like about the new 5-series is the stereo. There isn't really a good option for a nice full sound. The B&O system lacks any midrange sound. I'm not sure what they did with the system but it's horrendous.

Totally agree on the quality of materials which don't deserve the premium price tag. We have just received a new i4 M50 company car and it is also full of cheap plastics both inside and out. Even the floor mats are wafer thin which just adds to the cheap feeling and the seats are thin and uncomfortable. Think i'll be keeping my F90 forever!

Do you know what's going on with the BMW tunes as of recently? Like the X5 50e, the 550e. A lot of chip tuners now have specific rules etc. BMW being more strict now in locking everything off? Since the 45e was chip tune monster

Bro, this kept me from wanna upgrade to a newer car, im holding on to my g30 as long as possible, everything in the g60 feels cheap. I agree you get a bigger screen, but that doesn't change the fact that the whole car both inside and outside has downgraded alot in looks.

It's one of the most fresh cars on the streets, specially dark matte painted, they will sell a lot of 5series but the M5, that will be a huge flop

Unlike everyone else, I think it is a good looking car and I also think it looks good with the Brooklyn Grey and black combo. It might look better in blue without the M Sport package. Then the grill would look like a normal BMW grill.
Most of recent BMWs in M Sport package look like they have a bib. Truly atrocious.

It sucks that the battery will no longer recharge from driving, just recuperation. The previous generation could do it, but with this you deplete the battery and performance suffers.

I read somewhere that this looks like a GTA version of a BMW, where they tried to make it look close enough to one but it had to be a bit different to avoid a lawsuit. Honestly I think that is a good description.
But to be fair, I also didn't like the M2, M3 and 7 Series when they came out, but now, after seeing a few on the road, I quite like the design of them. So I imagine this will be a similar situation
No it wouldn’t trust me, i watch them on the road every single day couple of times per day (since i’m in Germany) and i thought the same as you but every time i see them, it’s worse and worse and worse i cannot imagine that i buy one of this things! But the 7 series in full black edition with M package i have to say looks somehow but Njeeeeh
