    I recently converted to this device after sensing the end of the Kindle Oasis. So far, it’s excellent. The 7.8” screen is the Goldilocks size for me, and the double set of page turn buttons is so useful. Lastly, the Nook’s warm light has a beautiful creamy, parchment appearance. My Kindle’s warm light has a definite green tinge by comparison. The system is a bit slower than Amazon’s and lacks dark mode, but I’d highly suggest it to anyone on the fence. It has a premium, quality feeling that is a joy to read on. Thanks for the great review, Danielle!

      Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I agree with everything that you said. I definitely like the New Nook a LOT. The only real question is which ecosystem the person is in or wants to be in.

    I’m leaning towards this. Amazon hasn’t come out with a new Oasis and I love page turn buttons. The 7.8 screen is so good also for me and my eyes. Lol. I had the 8 inch Forma and the size was perfect for me, but those buttons were awful. And I’ve had Nooks in the past, so I’m already in their eco system. Nice review. Very informative.

      Thank you. I'm glad that this was helpful. This Nook really is a nice device, and if you're already in the B&N eco system, it might be the way to go. Let us know what you decide to do and how you like it.

    While I’ll say that I absolutely love the screen size on my new Nook, the operating system is slow, clunky and non-intuitive. Although it’s made by the same manufacturer that produces the kindle, there is a bluish border around the top of the device similar to the original Kindle Paperwhite. It just doesn’t seem quite as high quality as the Paperwhite. Plus the battery burns pretty fast. I want to love this thing and I think with the right software update, it can reach its full potential. Hopefully it gets there!

      Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I'm with you. It's getting better, but it still has a way to go. I, too, and hopeful that they will keep working on it.

    I have one and love it. As I get older and need bigger font size, the bigger screen is better for me. It means less page turns.

    Thanks for this review. I agree that the flush screen is REALLY exciting. I have the older Glowlight Plus 7.8 without the flush screen and a tiny piece of paper got stuck at the edge of the screen under the bezel and I am afraid to try to get it out because I might damage the screen. I have the Oasis but I hate having to turn it every time I want to change hands. It doesn't take very much effort to make your Amazon books to readable on the Nook, but since I have both, it's not a problem. I'm pretty sure I will be getting this one.

    • @fitdaniellereads
      @fitdaniellereads  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah, that flush screen is a big step-up from past models. It just makes for a much better experience. Let us know what you think if you decide to get it!!

    I love that the nooks still have the physical page turn buttons. But where it loses my interest and why I’ll stick with my Kindle paperwhite 11th gen is Amazon has “Kindle Unlimited” that has thousands of books I have access too with the paid subscription which is worth it to me. I think Barnes and Noble should think about having a similar book subscription service. Also I use the Libby app with my library card and I can easily send the ebook straight to my Kindle. If the nook had those extra features I’d switch to it in a heartbeat.

    • @fitdaniellereads
      @fitdaniellereads  7 месяцев назад +3

      Yes to ALL of this!! I wouldn't necessarily switch to the Nook exclusively, but I do agree that these things would make it more attractive to people. I agree that the Nook is getting better, but it still has a way to go.

      Honestly, I don’t use it much, but not because of anything bad about the device. I’ve been using Boox tablets which run on Android, so I’m able to run my Nook, Kindle, and Libby apps on it.

    Rather than have stacks of paperwork, I took some pdf files and put them on my older Nook. Which allows me to search them for keywords. Hopefully the continue to improve this feature.

    I looked into this but the price $200 is a big turnoff . I have the Nook 4 and the kindle paper white signature edition and having a difficult time justifying this. I also have a Kobo and it’s got advantages over both the Kindle and the Nook. Thanks for the timely review .

      @@fitdaniellereadsI have the Kobo Libra 2 & Clara 2E. The Libra 2 has a larger screen & 32gb of storage 1:07

      and physical page turn buttons if that’s important to you. The Clara 2E has a smaller screen , 16gb of storage and no physical page turn buttons. I find myself using the Clara 2E more.
      The biggest advantage of the Kobo to me is its seamless integration with overdrive and borrowing ebooks from my library.

    I’m trying to decide between this and the Lenovo 9” tablet. I’m leaning more towards this cause of the E-Ink but that lag just seems so frustrating. I have seen some users mention it has gotten better with updates along the way. Has that been the case for you?

    • @fitdaniellereads
      @fitdaniellereads  11 дней назад

      I don't know anything about the Lenovo, but I can tell you that the Nook is not quick. It's gotten better, but it's still not quick. The big difference (not to be Captain Obvious) is that the Nook has the e-ink which is MUCH easier on the eyes.

  • @ejavenger
    @ejavenger 10 месяцев назад +2

    I believe that Amazon has the marketshare on content unfortunately. The nook just doesn't compare which is sad because B&N is a book superstore. If they would just let you read any book on any device and quit with the DRM stuff any e-reader would be great. I mean I can buy a book and lend it to you without any problem but taking an Amazon purchase and read it on a Kobo, Nook, etc is wrong. I will never understand this philosophy. Great review though.

      Thank you for your kind words . . . and YES!! to your points about sharing books!! There is actually a "share" function on Kindle books, but it's only available for a very few books. Maybe they'll expand that at some point.

      You should be able to go into the menu at the top of the screen from within a book. Click on the Aa, and that should give you the option to adjust your font size, settings, etc.

    Why are audiobooks so important on ereaders? Surely everyone has a smartphone and it’s way more convenient to listen to audiobooks on those.

    • @fitdaniellereads
      @fitdaniellereads  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's a GREAT question. I do prefer to listen to audiobooks on my phone, but some people like the experience of listening and reading a book on the same device. I definitely see the benefit of being able to have a kid listen to an audiobook on an e-reader rather than a tablet or a phone so that you don't have to worry about what else they are doing . . . but that might just be the teacher in me. 😂
