This is a great in depth video, Danielle. Did you know you can change the “name” of your kindle? I noticed your Kindle name is Danielle’s 17th Kindle. I like to name mine after some favorite book characters. My first kindle was a Gen 2. I named it Laura Ingalls Wilder after my favorite childhood author. I have two kindles right now, named Max de Winter and Elizabeth Bennet. Not really an important feature, but it’s a bit fun. Thanks for your channel, I’m a newer sub and am enjoying your content.

Thanks for the video! I now feel much more justified in my totally illogical desire to get myself a new Kindle even though the one I have (from 2021) works PERFECTLY fine. I mean, one could stay on my nightstand while I keep the other one with me in my purse, right?! 😅 Thanks for talking about how you like to set up your fonts, etc. I had totally overlooked the Bold options and now realize how nice it is to make the type stand out a little more for a better reading experience. Your video also made me realize that my device does not have a Bluetooth connection like yours seems to have. I am in Europe so I’m wondering if it’s something Amazon is doing deliberately with devices over here because, as far as I know, I don’t have the option to connect my Kindle to my Audible account. It looks SO NICE to be able to see the book covers alone in colour; it somehow looks so much more welcoming! The price tag is just so extreme for that experience though… 😢 I’ve been wanting a kindle for a couple of years now, but I might wait a few more in the hopes that the price on colour e-ink comes down. I’m way too lazy to de-DRM anything these days, and I’m not that interested in moving to the kobo ecosystem either, but it does sometimes seem like better option. I love the buttons, the grip area, and the white colour casing on the kobo libre… but I’m also addicted to the simplicity of the Kindle ecosystem! (Also I’m in Canada, so I think the situation with ads on kindle is different here.)

I never understood customer themes until you explained it. I have downloaded a lot of different fonts and I switch them between books. I find that I have to constantly reset it on this Paperwhite because it defaults to Bookly. Can’t wait to try that!

May I ask if Amazon replaces these ebooks with the edited versions? I mean that there are people editing out the original author's words they feel are bad or unfair. For example Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile. I stopped buying ebooks from Amazon because I cannot be sure I am getting the author's original works. Can you find out if they engage in that or if they leave them pure? I would love to go back to buying for my Paperwhite but for now I have stopped. I am an avid reader. By the way, you are delightful to watch and listen to. So glad the algorithm recommended your channel.

I just impulse ordered another e-reader even though I already have one, so I can relate. The way I see it is, it's a harmless hobby. In fact, reading is really important and it is good for your brain. So I don't feel bad about buying something that helps me read more.

haha we're so much alike. I had said on your Colorsoft video that I was waiting for my Colorsoft but something happened and it was late and they said I could keep waiting since they didn't know where the heck it was but I decided to cancel. I'll wait until next month and order when it's sorted out. But I did order the raspberry paperwhite non-signature edition and I've had it a few days and I love it! I can tell it's a little crisper and faster than my older paperwhite and the raspberry color is beautiful! So even though I'm disappointed waiting on my Colorsoft, I'm happy for the new paperwhite. :)

Yep, I am one of the privileged many that have myopia and presbyopia. So font sizes are a key to successful reading. I have embraced the reading glasses, whether I like it or not. And now a whole new world has opened again for me, the same that I had when I was 19/20 and realized I needed glasses, and I could actually see the blades of grass again. Well, age caught up again, and now that sweet spot of holding a book in is now all blurred, requiring some additional magnification to see it clearly enough. And the less portable option for the visually challenged is to get a monster A4 13.3" tablet reader, like the BOOX family, and have it parked somewhere, and use either a wired headphone in the USB-C port (minus is forward, and plus is backward), or just a bluetooth page flipper device. But yep, I have found the enjoyment of the leanback and read position.

I love the Project Hail Mary reference. That is my most favorite book EVER!!!!!

I’m trying to disconnect myself from Amazon as much as possible, but I love my kindle. I decided to go with the Kobo Libra Color and I’m very grateful for your videos to help me with this transition.

I already have a couple Kindle Fires, which I use to both read books, watch TV and play games. Why would I buy a Colorsoft on top of those? Just curious!

I have the Colorsoft and I LOVE it. I've been reading on and using a BOOX Tab Mini C for almost a year so I was familiar with color e-ink...and I think the Colorsoft blows it out of the water when it comes to the color. I still plan to keep both and use the BOOX for other reading apps like Hoopla...but I will use the Colorsoft for all my color content. I do read graphic novels and they look great. I have the yellow band on the bottom but it's faded over time and I don't even notice it. I'm not sure I would have even seen it in the first place if I hadn't seen so many people talking about it. Definitely not a device for everyone...if the yellow bothers them, the UI not having a full dark mode bothers them, or the price tag is just too much that they don't see the value...that's totally fair. But for me? It's love.

Website is pretty solid. I have a Aftershockz Swim bone conducting headphones and they don't support audible so need a way to get books on there. I also checked with dev tools in the browser and there's not much network activity, i.e. your books aren't being scrapped for other people to snaffle! :D

So do you have to re-add previous books that didn’t get de-DRMed correctly and try again? Or is there a way to apply the new plug in to all your books just in case? (I am new to calibre and didn’t have the updated plug in when I first added all my books from my kindle device).

Amazon isn’t releasing this ereader due to so many bad reviews. They are supposed to be working on the software. Heard the customer service is awful. Heard they are are no longer posting the one star bad reviews. I don’t like that there is no pen and no overdrive. I love my Kobo Libra no need for another color ereader. I think the Kobo is so much better and cheaper too. Not worth it imo.

I like that it’s also linked to the library overdrive and I can annotate. I would be very interested in seeing a comparison of the two ereaders also. I have a large collection of kindle books so I may want to upgrade to colorsoft too.

I also have multiple reading devices (3 iPads(pro, mini and air), 2 kindles (ppw, and signature) and now a kobo libra on the way, which is how I found your content!) sadly I can’t find the boox note 3c anywhere, but I would’ve loved that too! Just two questions, where did you get that nib for the lamy safari? Or what is it called, so I can search for it! Also, funny how you address your intern. Is the intern your kid?

New to this! I have downloaded the zip file in the description, but everytime I try it, Calibre gives me an error code: DeDRM_tools-10.0.3.zip' is invalid. It does not contain a top-level __init__.py file Is there anyone else having this problem, and/or know how to fix? Please and thank you?

I was so excited to see this video pop up in my list. 😁 I was sure I'd want a color kindle before they were announced, but am on the fence now and am tempted by the scribe. I was hoping for writing abilities like the Kobo. Like you, I only read black and white, so my main purposes for color would be covers, highlighting (very intrigued about being able to filter highlights by color), and having my knitting patterns that I send to my kindle in color. Would love a deep dive!

Thanks for the review. I almost talked myself into buying it but I know I would not be happy without page turn buttons. I sometimes get out my iPad just to look at the beautiful book covers. I guess I will have to settle for the Kobo Libra 2 Color. I would appreciate a comparison between the kobo and kindle.

I’ve been wondering what you’d have to say about this! :) I too was excited…. I’ve enjoyed the old Paperwhite over the last couple years. After getting the Colorsoft I was cursed with that yellow hazy band at the bottom and I guess I’m also cursed with eyes that are sensitive to things like that- what got me even more sadly was the graininess of the display compared to the crisp contrast on the Paperwhite- even my old one. The color itself looked AWESOME but I had to weigh what was more important to me (beautiful color covers, or crisp pages to read). I was also missing the complete dark mode. After 2 days with it I decided to send it back and I got the NEW Paperwhite instead, signature edition, and I lovvvvvveeee it. So fast, so clean and crisp, and I’m enjoying those signature features I didn’t have before like the auto dimming and wireless charging. I’m happy!
