      Pro advice: after filling with oil, clean the plug and the area around it with a degreaser or window cleaner. This way you avoid dirty spots and the impression that there is a leak.

    Here in the rust belt, the plugs don't look that pretty. My differential socket plugs were stuck tight, but what finally worked for me was: 60 seconds with a butane torch, a T55 TORX socket instead of ALLEN, and a 17-inch breaker bar with a universal joint adapter to angle around that mount bolt. Replaced those problem plugs with M18-1.5 stainless magnet plugs and a bit of anti-seize.

    When I still had my 1993 Toyota previa that had the amsoil 10w30 signature series oil before I donated it, I went with the amsoil gear oil 75w140 even though the rear diff called for 75w90 since the rear diff is old, original from the factory.

    I know I’m 2 years late and all, but that’s not really a lot of metal on the magnet plug. That’s pretty typical actually. As long as it’s not huge chunks of metal, which yours didn’t have any chunks. That’s typical and normal on a front or rear diff, but usually you get more on the main drive diff. So rear wheel drive would have more on the rear diff and fwd would have more on the front diff.
    Also, Amsoil makes, arguably the best synthetics. Excellent choice there!!

    80,000 miles here in the Northeast your sub frame would be swollen with not just rust but rot. The rear hatch across the Highlander name with that little panel attached to it would be eaten through with rust. After six months a Highlander looks nothing like what yours does. It’s obvious you have a complete rust free environment where you are!
    Wow it’s just not fair ha ha! You guys have absolutely no clue of how lucky you are to live in a dry environment when it comes to working underneath your car!

    For some reason the head of my drain plug is like counter-sunk into the diff and i can't even fully get an open or closed end onto it. The head also seems much thinner than yours too ughh its just stripping idk what to do other than drop the whole exhaust but all the bolts are so rotted out

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  Год назад +1

      I would get some MP metal protector on there let it saturate for a while I would see if you can open the fill bolt possibly you could suck it out with a hand pump and then fill it that's always an alternative if not you can get specialty tools and drill it out you just have to be very careful and you may want to take it to an expert that does it everyday

    • @dmcc7365
      @dmcc7365 Год назад +2

      I assume that you mean the transfer case drain. What worked for me was a butane torch and a Capri 15/16" stubby socket on a 3/8" drive ratchet. One bang on the ratchet with a hammer and it was loose enough to unthread manually. If you replace the magnetic plug with something smaller than 24mm, like a 19mm hex head, then you won't have any problem at all getting a ratchet wrench in there to retighten.
      As far as refilling goes, trying to squeeze that pouch in there among the pipes and rods seemed like a recipe for frustration and waste. I used 30 inches of 1/2" dia clear hose and routed it to a funnel braced in the notch in the engine cover just behind the oil fill.. The OD of the 1/2" hose fit perfectly in the 18mm fill port and doesn't wiggle out the way a smaller hose might.

      You can use any 75 w90 GL5 specification.
