- Reggie is super happy after doing the RAV4 differential and transfer case fluid change. We switched the fluids to Amsoil 75W-90 100% synthetic GL5 Gear Lube. Will give him extra protection and will allow his vehicle to run Looongeer & Steeroonger.....
The RAV4 differential fluid and transfer case capacity is about half a quart each. I highly recommend getting 2 quarts or more that way you'll have plenty of extra lubricant just in case you spill a little bit.

Great Vid Eben, I plan on doing my transfer and differential once my f150 kits 100,000 kms
Very smart so it's good to be proactive and that way you know exactly where you are if you do any off-road in water or go and launch a boat in a boat ramp sometimes you can have more water in your differential if you don't know who owned the vehicle prior they could have potentially drove through water puddles and there could be water contamination in the differentials and or transfer case each component has a breather hole at the top and it can let water seep in so it's always important to do it earlier than later that way you'll have a longer life component and your vehicle will get better fuel mileage and drive quite a bit better.

Yeah it's always good to be ahead of the curve and that way you don't have to worry about the way the vehicle is taking care of before as I mentioned to someone else earlier if you ever get a used vehicle and someone drove it off-road in the water or used it to launch a boat and a boat ramp water contamination can really damage the film strength and it may be needed to be changed way sooner so it's always good to always check your gear lube transfer case sooner than later especially on used vehicles that you never bought new.

I got a 2015 Rav 4 AWD, there are 3 plugs.
The bottom plug is for draining.
Facing the front of the vehicle the plug on the left hand side (the one you undo with the long bar) is above the drive shaft, toyota manufacturer use this to fill a measured amount. The other on the right side is my fill plug. My drain and fill plugs have hex nuts. The manufacturer plug has the 15/16 nut. Please comment.

My 21 rav4 calls for 75w-85 Gl-5 LX in the manual for the rear diff and transfer case however dealership said they only use 75w-90 when I went to buy. Will this difference cause issues in terms of warranty / west?
Is this a AW RAV4? Can it be done on the FW version LE 2018?

Hi Steve, congratulations for your videos are very helpful specially to maintenance my rav4!! I have a question however! In a different video you fill up the transfer case from a different place (actually the mechanic needed a special tool to reach the 10 mm Allen bold) and im wondering which I need to use. Thanks and keep doing those good contents!!!

Definitely a stickler on this one you may have to cut an allen key shorter or modify to get a tool that fits in there it was a very difficult we would change one of the most difficult on the channel just want to make sure you're aware of that!
You may want to take it to an expert that works on those Vehicles all the time they may have a better tool
Nice,I have a question about the gl4 manual transmission oil not in the easy pack but in the quart container, is it the same formulation as the severe gear in the easy packs or is there different additives in it? Thanks eben, love the videos
Great question Preston the difference is the modifiers the GL5 has more modifiers for differential components They need the slip lock additives so it doesn't chatter when you turn tightly the outside wheel turns more than the inside wheel and without that additive it will actually bind up and chatter the GL4 has a different amount of modifiers and it's a different specification and you would see everything on the lookup guide right here for your year make model and engine size.

To get the fluid out possibly just depends on the application
My 2016 rav 4 just hit 120000Km. is it about time to change the diff oil??
If it was me I would change my oil on a differentials every 30,000 miles of City driving for 60,000 Mi of highway driving if it was my personal vehicle👍

I thought RAV4 takes same 75w90 for transfer case. I worked on a 2014 RAV4 . Maybe 2006 different??

That looks like trans fluid he drained out!! It’s red
As it oxidizes it gets brownish like that and gets darker and darker and darker which is normal for something that age 2006 with 90,000 mi I'm surprised there wasn't more metallic flakes

You'll see there's a lot of different vehicles that have many engine codes and all that is is just different times of the year they made the car you can look at both and you'll see most of them all take the same fluids and same capacity just double check if you really want to know all you do is contact the dealer with your VIN number and they will give you your exact engine code😃💯

What is the life expectancy of the gear oil?
Great question it depends on the driving conditions on over the road trucks it's up to 500,000 miles if it's on a light car passenger truck it's up to 100,000 miles however that depends on driving condition so here in Las Vegas if it was my personal vehicle I would change the gear lube at probably about 50,000 miles on Reggie's car if it was my personal car
Where is the fill plug for a 1996?
Should be very similar but sometimes they change mid-modelier in different components can be different I would definitely ask a technician that works on those Vehicles everyday
