- The New PXG BLACK OPS Iron testing numbers are Insane...
After testing the new PXG Black Ops Irons, I came home to reflect on the numbers, and quite frankly, I'm still shocked!
I've not tested a brand new set of FULL CAVITY oversized golf clubs for a long time, but during testing the NEW PXG Black Ops Irons, I couldn't believe the Ball Flight and Carry Distances I was getting, even on miss hits!
Take a look at the numbers, and let me know what you think, are these Double Cavity Irons too much, or is making the game easier, a good thing?...

It’s big it’s chunky and it’s clean. I used that as my chat up line many years ago😂😂
Ahaha 🤣 lmao
I recently got xcor2's, I can't hit woods to save my life. If I play with woods I'm a 28 handicapper happy to break 100. Recently after some shocking rounds hooking and slicing my way to 100+ scores I left the woods at home and used my xcor2 irons only 4-LW and low and behold I shot 85, 90 and 87 in my last 3 rounds. If xcor2's can do that for me then I throughly recommend the black ops irons, being a worthy successor to the xcor2's. Everything including the bag other than my recently purchased Taylormade mini driver (to help with that slicing and hooking) and my Scotty Cameron is PXG. The quality is outstanding. I'm pushing 60, knackered by military service, motorbike crashes, creaking bones and injuries, and yet PXG equipment still allows me hang with those I play and compete with. Age and fitness are against me but PXG is keeping me competitive in my playing group at least for a while longer. Give PXG a try, you won't be disappointed.
My issue with game improvement Irons was that because those types of clubs had thick/wide soles I NEVER got a clean connection and it looked as though Gary was having the same issue.
Reminds me of the Calloway big irons from the early 1990`s. They were enormous and very easy to hit.
That’s a great recall, I’d forgot about them. The fusions 😃
Awesome review Gaz and PXG I tip my hat to you guy’s
Looks good if a little thick, great flight and distance, if it's what you need then worth a look.
I can’t hit irons with wide soles for some reason but these irons do look so good
Need to try these at Sam's, I reckon we can get the "7i" over 210-215 carry 😂
They’re not the iron for us, but they won’t definitely win a longest iron contest lol 😂
I was thinking of buying Ping g730 because I like an oversized, forgiving iron. Would you recommend these over the Pings?
That’s a great question as I’m a big big admirer of ping, I love the quality of their product.
I would certainly recommend them, but not over ping, they’re on par with ping for quality, probably longer, but at the end of the day, it really does come down to you testing the both of them.
If you bought the ping without testing the PXG, then I’d be guttered, as the PXG were ridiculous when I tested them 😃😅
It’s like golf instruction from Paddy McGuinness
I really like the look of these clubs I going to have try them for myself
You’ve got to try them if you’re looking for forgiveness 🔥
Gary where did you have the fitting? Really like the look of these irons
I had my Pxg iron fitting with Sam Smith at www.golfrepairs4u.co.uk
If he’s not in your location, Pxg have a list of fitters on their website.
Gary where did you shoot the video for the black ops irons. I went on the site you suggested but it appears to be inside and in truth when I get fitted I like to see the flight of the ball in really not through a launch monitor.
PXG stepping it up this year, though stepping as bravely as that bird (pigeon) 😂
Huge back to front dispersion. So maybe not as forgiving as they are making out. I'm going to try a fitting in 2 weeks. Looking at 2 degrees weaker lofts. 7 iron at 28 degrees is to strong
I think if I owned them, I’d club to my best strike, so any miss hit comes up short, not long. The most forgiving irons are always going to have some back to front dispersion, but it the right hands, they can improve someone’s ball striking and distance.
@@garymartingolf think that's exactly what I'd do. I did have the 0211 irons and liked them. I'll try them then make a decision. It was nice to see a good player miss hit a few for once 🤣
What were their SGI irons from a few years ago thought it stood for Super Game Improvement
Wasn't the 0211 their more game improvement iron...and wa it cast?
First club as a game improvement? First Cast iron? Wait what about the 0211? I play the 0211 DC and it’s cast and a great price point. I don’t understand….
I’m not sure too now you mention it, hopefully Pxg jump in the comments to clarify what they mean.
PXG is rebranding the 0211s as players distance, not game improvement, to make room for Black Ops as their “true” game improvement iron. But I bet they are about to make the 0211 line go away. They were pretty much as good as the 0311 P and XPs and were probably taking sales away from their bigger money irons. So the entry to the brand will probably be the Black Ops now. Makes sense because the bigger, chunkier Black Ops will not compete with 0311 Gen 7.
where can you buy this clubs in Australia Melbourne
0211 was there game improvement clubs
I do remember the 0211 being their most reasonably priced and most forgiving line up, but I never tested it. They must not of considered it game improvement iron to rival the best. I don’t know.
@@karldann3107 I had a set, they were forgiving but I wouldn't say they looked like the modern game improvement irons. More a player's distance iron
Is this more like a hybrid iron?
I guess it’s as close to it as you can get in the body of an iron. 100% a maxed out iron.
interesting clubs but i had the zx4s and had to swap because like what you did i hit 180s then you munch one and it flys 20 yards more not fun on the course
I do think if someone with a quick club speed who can strike good ball uses any full cavity, back to from distances won’t be as tight as something more progressive.
I always use high handicap less as a good example of someone who these clubs would suit. Swings it slow, lacks distance, struggles to make good content with irons. That the kind of golfer they’re best suited too, someone wanting to just make the cleanest possible contact, with distance control not being the priority.
I’m about a 12ish handicap. Would u recommend these vs the gen 7.
I say 12ish cause I’m usually 10-14 over but have been putting more single digit over rounds these past couple weeks. But I do play on relatively easy course
I would most likely say not. I’d gone to a Pxg fitting centre to test, but the only way I think it’s possible they might suit you, is if you swing really soft and require maximum distance. You must already hit it sweet enough, so the ease of these probably isn’t required. As I say, it’s only a calculated guess, but I think you’d be more XP / P .
Go get a fitting and get what works best for you. Honesty to many people (including me) think they need better players irons. I said if I could break 80 10 times in a row, I would buy new irons. I did and haven’t broke 80 since. Part of it is figuring out the new irons and part is because I miss low toe some times.
Hell no. Gen 7 all day
I don’t need new irons but I want new irons 😂
Some people still can shoot mid 70s just by using game improvement clubs ..

@@garymartingolfit’s no secret that pxg have poached some ping employee. I’ve never hit them but going for a fitting this week at one of their stores.
@@garymartingolf I’m not at all. Look at them side by side and from the bottom and you’ll see what I mean.
