Just found my WM-3 I purchased in 1981 and at the time my fav tape was Supertrampp Breakfast in America. I used to go walking at night on the AFB in Alconbury England, sometimes in the rain, just to escape the day. Such great memories. I need to replace the belts otherwise it was never mistreated and is in great condition. I cannot find however, the external battery pack that came with it.
That is one very clean looking walkyboth outside and inside. Glad you changed the belts before it turns gooey. I have a WM-2 which the belts had completely destroyed. Goo all over the place. Haven't got around cleaning it yet.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just repaired mine and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working and was eating tapes, then looked at your video and the part where you said you did it wrong at first, so I flipped that part of the belt and it works perfectly now. Thank you a ton, I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong lol
Hi, could somebody help me i have the same wm3 but alkaline batteries destroyed the baterry compartment... i found service manual on google but there isn t information about the red wire that goes between the batteries (on plus side). I see that it is attached to the board next to battery compartment. But the metal on the plastic compartment is destroyed.. Can anybody send my pictures how the plastic battery compartment looks?
That is in amazing condition for the age. Like you suggest i bet it sat in a drawer for the last 37 years after it broke. Could the power socket have escaped from the case without dismantling or had someone been in there before?
Someone would have had to at least opened the case as the socket is too big to pass through. I suspect that they either couldn't free the battery door, or they weren't confident to solder. The inner screws were factory tight still!
Can anyone tell me what he meant by the clicking noise inside the gears of the unit was? I have a WM-3 identical to this one and it also makes this noise but mine sounds kinda fluttery when I playback the tape. Not sure if there is a connection or if maybe my belts are a bit too big or something. Anyone have any ideas?
@@fmoyano I finally fixed the issue, mine needed replacement belts that are specifically for that Walkman, I would check eBay first for WM-3 belts, there are a few different sellers. Usually that’s the issue, but I haven’t run into any problems with the clicking, as I think it’s the gears turning and there’s some type of lever that engages every turn that clicks. It now works perfectly fine like it’s brand new. Try also changing the playback, although it’s usually the belts that cause flutter if they’re old or not the right size, they have to be exact
@@monkeysyndicate Dang that's kinda expensive for a broke ass teenager like me lol. But I guess for someone like you it's a damn good deal. Especially since its in pretty good cosmetic condition overall.

That’s an amazing album.

I have one in mint condition. It's my favorite of all the Walkman's and I even had the TPS-L2. Nice work!
Thanks! I think it's my favourite-looking Walkman as well, and when you consider how old it is, it's really compact, too.

I prefer the DD lineup aesthetic
Simple yet elegant especially the DD9
but i rather get the OG DD or DC2

I notice this model has a mic, can it record, like a dictaphone? cheers.
Nah, just sing along. So you don't have to sing into space rats like Starlord in the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Hello from Austin TX. How do I contact you?
Where did you get it?
This was an eBay listing, being sold by Oxfam...
How much did you pay for it?
£130 I think... Not sure how good a deal that was, but I've been wanting one for a while!
