  • Hi all, I hope you enjoy this video. I had no end of issues with this lovely player, but I'm happy with the end result. I also used the following webpage which gave me some useful pointers, so a big thanks to Peter Vis!

    Thanks for this. It took me back when I was a wee lad and got my first walkman. This was the exact same one. The sound quality was outstanding.

    шикарная работа! автор молодец! купил точно такой же плеер. внешнее состояние просто супер, но внутри нет двигателя и провода все оборваны. буду пытаться восстановить.

    My advice on the soldering would be to use flux and desoldering braid to remove the old solder on those wire connections, then flow new solder and attach wires. Looks like you just soldered on 40 year old stuff which will give you dry joints and unreliable connections. Also wonder if those electrolytic capacitors are gonna be out of whack after 40 years. Otherwise good job.

      @monkeysyndicate  3 года назад +1

      Yep you're right, I use flux all the time now and also desoldering braid, the flux in particular makes a massive difference! I think you're right about the capacitors, I might have a go at replacing them down the line...

    Hi great vid .. I’ve watched it a few times now … I have exactly the same model but my play button presses fine but doesn’t seem to work inside the deck … does that sound like a belt too? Thanks

    i have 2 m4430,s in white one is perfect other needs belts and has audio problems only 1 channel and it is distorted i did find a dry joint on the headphone jack but that done nothing ,i think either the amp chips have failed or preamp is faulty but today a denon tape deck failed dodgy panasonc tape mech and a gear stripped teeth so i broke it up for parts looking at the main board there was an la 3161 ic a google search and it is pin compatible with the 3160 in the sanyo so desoldering it now .

    17 cm 1.5 mm or 18 cm 1.5 mm?

    Why you don't buy some set of professional screwdrivers? It can avoid stripping the screw's head when there is some hardened thread locker like in old Japanese electronic. By the way, I had one of these back in day, a bulky machine but with a nice sound and fairly cheap compared to the very expensive Sony Walkman! Unfortunately someone stole my unit, that was identical to this one. May be it's the same unit.. ;)

    • @monkeysyndicate
      @monkeysyndicate  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the advice, I agree my screwdrivers are pretty bad. I have 3 of these same units (This one, 1 partially working, 1 donor) so one of them could be yours :)

    I have the exact same model. I put new batteries in it today. Nothing, no movement at all. The red power led didn't light up either. I'd love to get it going again. It's in good condition for forty odd years old. Might try and source a 6v supply. Have any suggestions?

    • @monkeysyndicate
      @monkeysyndicate  3 года назад +1

      Is there corrosion on the battery terminals? I'd recommend a trying with an adaptor as you've suggested as well. You may just have a loose wire...

    • @stevocarton
      @stevocarton 3 года назад +2

      @@monkeysyndicate I'm going to picked up an adapter and take it from there. I cleaned the battery terminals. Hopefully it just a loose wire in the battery compartment. 👍

      Don't play any cassettes in there before changing the belt and lubing up the gears a little. Even if its only sitting in a box, the belt's could be loose, which will cause tapes to be chewed on by the machine, or it doesn't spin the gears at all.
