To me, this really is the best comedy routine I've ever seen ... damn shame it's not the video version, it does loose something without seeing him. His delivery on stage was simply stunning. PS: I've met that damn goat going boating.
I love his storytelling and sound affects. It might even be funnier without video, because I'm just imagining everything that's happening to him and it's so relateable and realistic.
As an instructor of snowsports for the last 3 decades, I have to say that Larry NAILS (from a comedic perspective) the first time skier experience. This one is oft-played among our staff and more than one of the experiences Larry shares has actually happened to most of us, with the lone exception of the Goat. Not sure about that one. Wonder if Larry still stays in touch with him?
Remarkably similar to my first, (and only), time skiing. I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bill, but I was introduced to the thrill of speeding down the side of the mountain Way too fast by my "well intentioned" friends on my first visit to the Poconos. They too, had instructed me in the "secret" of the snow plow. Thanks for posting this as a reminder why I will Never attempt that again...
"You don't have to tell me I'm a bastard, I know I'm a bastard, been one for years, love the hours and no heavy lifting." 2 L&O's he was on, still 2 favorites of mine. LOL
OMG! THANK YOU!!!!! I saw the special twice many many many moons ago after the first time i went skiing and related to every minute of it. I've been looking for it for years! Was starting to think it was just my imagination cause no body I knew had every seen it.
Yes, he's brilliant and this is one of his best bits. He was Great on Law & Order in a dramatic role. But my favorite film role of his is in A Mighty Wind. The look of pleasure on his character's face as Jennifer Coolidge's character compliments him by saying "It's like we only have one brain between us" is priceless.
So accurate! Every year I run a school ski trip and every year more than one student comes back to the bus with a story very similar. This year I saw a women who forgot to get off at the top or maybe she tried and then had second thoughts because when the chair stopped and she was now facing downhill she only had one ski on. .... maybe she too forgot to lift her tips up! I wish he had added a bit on putting on lift tickets. A bus load of kids trying to put a wire one on is hysterical.
@kalicat1 Yes, it's most of an HBO Comedy special titled "Just Words." You can still catch it on HBO once in a blue moon. Whoever owns the copyright is crazy not to make a DVD. What, they think it's too intellectual with the reference to Oedipus? Not enough dirty words for a mass audience? This is sublime story telling by a true master, a comedians' comedian. It's up there with the best of Carlin, Pryor and Cosby.
@Bygboi69 i've been giving it some thought and i 'may' record it from my webcam. granted the video quality wouldn't exactly be HD but i'll think about it. personally i wish HBO or whoever owns the copyright would just put it on dvd already.
Right? I remember seeing a video of this beat, years and years and years ago-- the bit with the microphone as he recounts hurtling down the hill is a scream.
I've been trying to find a good video of this bit since last year. All I've found are poor quality bootlegs! The expressions make it soo much more funny. Still funny without it in my opinion though.
First time I went skiing, I got lost. XC skiers were passing me. I finally hiked to a lodge and I was so hungry I ate the dregs of someone's soup who had finished and presumably went back to skiing. The second time was better.
I went to pine knob in Michigan We were about 19-20 years old I had my poles boots skis. Well 30 seconds later a guy comes barreling straight down the hill breaks his leg after he hits the orange safety fence
The thing about Larry Miller is it's all in the body language, the expression, the delivery. The material is not actually that funny but he is a funny guy.
OOKKKK, SOMEONE REALLY NEEDS TO POST THIS STAND-UP ON THE INTERNET, I CAN'T FIND IT ANNYWHHEERREE ... I HATE THIS .. I DON'T EVEN SKII, BUT I WANNA WATCH THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE
@Kingdom007Hearts Excellent! Just pop "Larry Miller Just Words" into the search box. World needs to hear this, and they should listen to the Just Words part first.
@Kingdom007Hearts You should record it and upload the video to youtube so the world can enjoy it :) I've been searching for years to find a video of this
This is from Larry's excellent HBO comedy special Just Words. Here's the link to the first half before the skiing routine (which was half the total shows length). m.ruclips.net/video/FU2yg6aEyjo/видео.html
I haven't skied since I was a teenager. The list of injuries includes a broken nose, two cracked ribs, a broken arm and a twisted knee. Now that I think of it, given that I am in my mid-thirties and have only now kicked my pain killer addiction; maybe I sholdn't ski again.
@mrn1ceguy03 i've honestly been trying myself for quite awhile. i managed to dvr it when it appered on hbo comedy back in 2009. i refuse to delete it until this special is put on dvd.
OK, I have this on an old VCR tape, and with credits it's 58 minutes and 30 seconds, so we're missing quite a bit. In a few places the joke comes from his expression or motions.
The first time you realize Miller is a genius is the second time he coughs, which happens about a minute before the skiing bit starts. He coughs once during this audio too, and it has a special meaning you won't understand without the first part.
So if you never saw the whole HBO show -- NANNERNANNERNANNER! ;-D
@mrn1ceguy03 if anyone knows how to hook up a dvr machine to a laptop for copying then i may surely consider it. b/c if i record from a tv it gives off a lesser quality and the sound sometimes could be choppy.
@Kingdom007Hearts Is there any way to find this whole thing? How did you find it? I remember it from a late night way back when and I'd love to see it again.
I don’t do rollercoasters at all. I mean ANY rollercoaster. My very first time was at Euro Disney where a group of my closest bestest friends told me to go with them on one called Space Mountain which they said wS thrilling but not going to frighten me to near death. I made the mistake of believing them. We’re not friends anymore. Not for that but for similarly underhanded things . . .
“Two rows…fertilized.” Larry is a national treasure. I miss his podcast.
Larry Miller is one of the finest storytellers to ever live.
To me, this really is the best comedy routine I've ever seen ... damn shame it's not the video version, it does loose something without seeing him. His delivery on stage was simply stunning. PS: I've met that damn goat going boating.

@@Kingdom007Hearts Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for the link. As I said, it is so much better when you can SEE his delivery.
Aw man, I remember this from long long ago. Nice to see him again. He tells great stories😊
Clean comedy is very difficult--Larry Miller does it great!
Clean comedy is always the best.
Depends on the humor.
I love this guy. I didn't know this was here. This is the best comedian ever!!!!!!
You ever check out his 5 stages of drinking routine? That's also a banger.
Fantastic story teller. This skiiing skit is so on the money. Happened to me just the way he said it. Larry Miller is the greatest.
Same for me!
This is up there with Abbott and Costello's "Who's on first?" routine. Absolutely classic and priceless. :)
He is the master of long-form narrative comedy story telling.
I think that's what _all_ comedians do, other than Steven Wright...
Larry Miller is an incredible comedian!! I would love to have the entire "Just words" from HBO years ago.

I love Larry Miller❤😂😂😂😂😂
Two of my favorite lines are:"She had mistaken me for Oedipus." and "Now he's giving lessons. He's unbelievable!"""
I had tears running down my face!
Dana Murphy The whole part about the wishbone game was awesome

Eddie Murphy brought up how funny Larry Miller is on Seth Myers show the other night. He still makes me laugh my head off.
I saw this on his hbo special. The first time i watched it i laughed until my ribs hurt. Thank you for posting it.
Michael Glenn same here. I've been looking for this for years.
This is exactly why I will never go skiing, I can picture this happening to me. Classic Larry Miller.
Looked for him for YEARS now
Thank you for uploading this
I've looked for this for years. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so very much for posting this. Larry Miller is one of the funniest men on the planet.
One of the funniest routines I have ever heard.
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember taping the video from this a long time ago. I forgot how funny this segment is.
Larry has such great delivery.
Excellent! True brilliance!

Love him on "law and order", playing a bad guy, good stuff.
"You don't have to tell me I'm a bastard, I know I'm a bastard, been one for years, love the hours and no heavy lifting." 2 L&O's he was on, still 2 favorites of mine. LOL
People all over the net are ready to buy the @HBO video if it was available.
One of the best standup routines done by anyone, anywhere of ALL TIME! Even better with the visuals. LOL
I miss his standup. GREAT actor though. 🤔
OMG! THANK YOU!!!!! I saw the special twice many many many moons ago after the first time i went skiing and related to every minute of it. I've been looking for it for years! Was starting to think it was just my imagination cause no body I knew had every seen it.
u r awesome larry. i will never forget your comedy!!!!!!

no pretty woman
Underrated.

I remember seeing this on tv so funny 😂
I decided to watch this in the library today. I was kicked out 15 minutes later for laughing too loud
Worth it
Wow, I was looking for this one (audio, or video) of this here. It's one of his best works (aside from his Stages in Drinking).
Thank you for putting this up here.
...and then you meet women! How many guys since Adam went to their doom on a quest to meet women?
You can watch this...laugh till your sides hurt...and then watch it again so the same thing happens! Then go enjoy "The Five Levels of Drinking!"
I saw him do this on HBO and LMAO! Thanks for posting it!
"I flunked Wood Shop!" I say that on bike rides all the time.
I saw him live at The Improv in Chicago. I laughed until I cried.

around 12:40 i am just crying from laughter. for real. so good.
To bad you cant see his facial expressions...thats half the fun.
QFT!!!

His smirk when he says, “We both lost hair...”
@DarkHunter2012 the whole special is up now on youtube. the skiing vid is the last part and the other vid is the rest of the audio files.
First time I went skiing, I got lost. XC skiers were passing me. I finally hiked to a lodge and I was so hungry I ate the dregs of someone's soup who had finished and presumably went back to skiing. The second time was better.

This guy is seriously funny!
"Did you know birds can laugh?"
I can't breathe and I can't see I'm laughing so hard.
The thing about Larry Miller is it's all in the body language, the expression, the delivery. The material is not actually that funny but he is a funny guy.
@rickideemus i have it saved on my DVR and i'll never delete it. Also i uploaded the remaining special the other day.
Every bit of this story is 100 percent real.

Pssst. There's a talking goat.
God bless you, noble servant of comedy.
LOL they play this on the xm radio called laff usa
Thanks for this one too! =D
@kalicat1 its Larry Miller Just Words. it isn't on cd as far as i can find.

Reminds me of Newhart
Surreal and brilliant. Long before Eddie Izzard
Dude’s not a comedian he’s a cartoonist. I saw all of that.
It reaaly is amazing how he conjures up an image in your mind. 😆
@Bygboi69 its a typical dvr that i got from timewarner. i believe its an explorer 8300.
anyone know where I might be able to find the video for this performance? either a place where I can buy it on dvd or a website or something?
@Kingdom007Hearts You should record it and upload the video to youtube so the world can enjoy it :) I've been searching for years to find a video of this
What was the name of this? I've been looking for the whole stand-up act for a long time. Thanks for posting I love this story!!

I never heard a comedian go for so long on one subject. It's good though
Try listening to John Pinette talk about buffets. He can go for an hour and a half and still have me laughing.
@mrn1ceguy03 if anyone knows how to hook up a dvr machine to a laptop for copying then i may surely consider it. b/c if i record from a tv it gives off a lesser quality and the sound sometimes could be choppy.

This man is a genius. -------------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o

@Messistale yt said i could upload videos longer than 15 minutes and i tried this as a test but hey it worked
I was like you once...
@RKade8583 no problemo
Can you give us a link to the full special? :)

Are you kidding me? o_O! You are able to upload 35 minutes on YT? How come...?
Jeff dunham stole this guy and made walter
Naw, Walter is less subtle.
@RKade8583 i found it on some random fan blog years ago. if you want give me your email and i will send the whole thing to you
I would love to copy the whole ski routine action and audio. Is possible? randlewhitney400@yahoo.com
Yup, when comedy was, well, funny...
@DarkHunter2012 shoot me your email and i'll give you the audio files.
