When you realize James and his crew went to kill Ellie to protect her from David…oof. I love that moment of acting from Bella where Ellie finally comes out of her rage-induced slaughter of David and looks down, realizes what she’s done, and looks completely TERRIFIED. Ellie isn’t just scared of David and what he did to her, but she’s also scared of herself, because she realizes that she’s capable of that level of violence. It was so sad seeing her have to go there to protect herself. Another sweet parallel I noticed: David, who views himself as a “father” to his people, takes Ellie’s coat and hat from her and lets her freeze in the kitchen. The first thing Joel, a true father, does when he finds her is take off his own coat and bundle Ellie up to try and keep her warm. I think we could all use a big bear hug from Pedro Pascal when we’re scared/sad…he just seems like the kindest, gentlest person. ❤🥹

It's very complicated issue in survivalism. Sure, you can have these principles, but how about you relatives or friends? Would you rather watch them die from starvation or wish for them to survive even if it means that they'll eat human meat? Obviously, you can do whatever you want with your own life, it's fully your right, but it also complicated to judge others (and I'm not talking about David's commune which simply could hunt animals instead, but more about desperate situations where there's 100% conviction that there's no other sources of food left or the survivors in no shape to hunt animals/go long distances after exhaustion sets in) who decided to go the cannibalism way. Society of the Snow (about real life survivors) also explored this topic (great movie, btw). I'm in no way defend or trying to push canibalism agenda (lol), but this issue isn't black and white when it comes to the survivalism. Of course, in any other circumstances it's forbidden and 100% immoral.
