The mark of a great video tutorial is the fact that, if you need to, you remember it and come back to it for a refresher. This is the case with this video. Thank you so very much Rob for the great tutorials you post.
Thank you. Appreciate the details you bring out and very impressed with the way you present it showing the camera controls, the monitor for results and the background pictures as well.
Definitely very useful! I just dumped my Nikon D7000 and bought an E-M1-mk2 and the menus are brutal! You are really helping me make the step to Olympus. I will probably get a Pen-f (or a Pen-F-mk2) as my second body. You're building up a great collection of videos here, and at some point, like with David Thorpe, they're surely going to attract big numbers. Cheers Rob, and thanks!
The first time I watched one of your videos, initially I thought "They'll let anyone onto RUclips". You kept touching your face and hair and your voice is not James Earl Jones, but your videos are very informative and and very USEFUL. You are a good teacher! I like the way you have a dedicated camera focused on the Pen-F's screen. It makes understanding the inputs you are making so much easier to understand. Other RUclipsrs just wave the camera LCD at their main and only recording camera and hope we can see what they're doing. Hopeless. So I enjoy watching your videos and I hope you don't change a thing. Who needs James Earl Jones when we can have Rob Trek. Keep up the good work. Have you considered Patreon for your channel? I'd be happy to contribute.
Thanks! You made me laugh tonight. My first video I stayed home from work because I had the flu, so I was very heavily medicated. For some reason, thought I could do this. I do scratch a lot, just getting old I guess.
Your teaching videos are great. You made me a fan of yours. I can therefore say that the value of my Pen F has become at least ten times the price I paid for it.
Another great and informative video. Almost everything I’m learning about this camera is coming from your channel. Thanks for all the great content, Rob, it’s truly invaluable to newbies like myself.
Very clear and informative Rob, have learnt so much about the Olympus system from watching your videos, am very grateful, please keep up the great work.
One thing I noticed (playing with the bracketing functions for a couple hours today on my recently-purchased EM1 Mark ii...), using the Bracketing function in the menu offers a maximum of 1 stop, whereas using the Bracketing button on top of the camera will go up to 2 stops apart. You custom timer idea is golden! I ordered a very cheap ($10) plug-in shutter release today to make it easier to fire off the shot sequence. When you are trying to move fast on a real estate shoot, tenderly touching the shutter button is annoying. Thank you for your tips!!!
Very helpful Rob as I am just at the stage of wishing to use exposure bracketing in my landscapes with OMD 5. These short focused videos on specific functions work well, thanks. Doug.
I have watched all your videos on the Pen F and they are all very informative. I want to know everything about this camera so I can get to know it inside and out. Please continue. Thank-you.
Thank goodness it works on the 10ii. They stripped a few things from it vs my pen-f, so was glad to see it kept that ability. The 10ii is my primary workhorse.
You could also use HDR menu and make a custom HDR bracketing...for much faster process. In HDR mode you can choose in camera auto HDR or just getting multiple exposure files.
Love my Pen F, even though the menu is not the best (maybe the worst) and I have read through the whole hundreds of pages manual and tried each function myself but still very helpful and enjoy watching your videos. Once get the logic of how the menu is set up and set the custom items in SCP and dails it's actually very easy and powerful camera to use. One little suggestion is maybe you should mention about focus bracketing as well? Very useful when deal with macro shots ;) keep the videos coming please!
Thank you Rob. A question: no way to get 3 stops on The Olympus em1 iii? I mean: -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 ? Because the GH5 can do it. And I have some clients (real state) wo ask for -3 0 3 bracketing. Thank you again Rob! Your tutorials are superb!
Thank you for the video. Very interesting and informative. I wanted to know your opinion about omd em5 mark ii. Is there a difference in the quality of the image between it and pen f. Whether it is necessary to overpay for pen f
For me, there is no difference between my em10 mark II and my pen-f in terms of picture quality. The em5 mark II adds a larger viewfinder, optional battery grip, and weather sealing over the em10 and penf. The em5 and penf are both a bit easier to customize than the em10. The difference in megapixels is very subtle and I personally wouldn't pay more for that alone. I bought the penf for its classic looks.
Hi Rob, I searched your channel but dit not find a tutorial on HDR function on the OMD EM 10 mark II. What triggers me is the HDR function and the exposure bracketing as explained in this video. Actually they are doing both the same thing but the HDR functions limits you in settings. I would love to see a video on that, moreover since you use it a lot with interior photography.
I don't use hdr much since blending flash with ambient light is my primary workflow. Bracketing is very dependent on the software being used. I have photoshop. What are you using?
Extremely informative. The manual is worthless in describing this feature. Thank you. I would like to have a video on Live Time and also for Live Composite. I have an EM5 MKII.
Those features are definitely on my short list. It's not something I've ever had before, so I need to work on some practical and/or creative uses for them to make a video. I've seen a few videos on fireworks and product photography, but that's it. Thanks for your feedback!
Hi Rob, Great series of videos for the Olympus cameras. Wondering of you could do a video explain Live Comp and Live Time. How to use, when to use etc. Thanks you

Hi Rob, thanks for the body of knowledge you shared and still sharing. No way to fire in sequence all the shots without programming? I saw this on Panasonic, mine Is g9, Is seems more handy and with the stabilization 3 to 5 shots can be managed without tripod. Thanks! KR esse
Rob, does this only work on the Pen F? Doesn’t seem to work on my M-10 II. It appears to be ignoring the “Number of Frames” setting in the Custom Self Timer.
There are 3rd party programs that are better suited for different workflows. Nik Effects is a free plugin but I don't think it's any better, but comes with a variety of effects other than HDR. Photomatix ($100) is best for working in volume and may produce slightly better output, but it's subtle. There are more, but you'll have to decide based on your workflow and results you want. For casual use, Lightroom is fine. Here's a good list captainkimo.com/hdr-software-review-comparison/
As usual amazing tutorial! One question. On HDR on my Pen-F, the default is if I remember correctly, 250 ISO and this ISO cannot be changed when HDR is enabled. Is it true? Not possible to shoot any sort of HDR @ higher ISO???
The Pen-F allows for several different types of bracketing. The most common is exposure bracketing. Its typically for blending the pictures together to increase the effective dynamic range. If you have Lightroom CC, check out this video ruclips.net/video/7x_hJF6YJdg/видео.html . For older versions, you'll need a separate plugin or software to merge the photos, such as Photoshop Elements or Nik Effects (free). I may do a video on the various bracketing available on the Pen-F, such as focus bracketing, art bracketing, flash bracketing, etc... and their uses. Thank you for your question!
I followed your tutorial on my M5 iii with firmware 1.5,but when I turn on Bracketing it won’t allow me to do anything with the time delay. Am I doing something wrong?
If you are in the custom timer settings, you should be able to push the d-pad left and right to move between the different options. Push up and down to change the setting. Let me know if that helps. -Rob
Hi Rob, a quick question (or for any viewers). My company would like three bracketted shots at -3, 0, +3. But I'm having trouble getting it to them settings. Are you aware if this is possible? Many thanks :)
I don't use HDR much anymore. I prefer to bracket exposures and merge them myself in lightroom. The in-camera hdr is fine, but has some limitations. I'll give some thought to an hdr video. Also, I haven't forgotten your other question about back button focus! I'll get back to you soon on that. Thanks.

This is a good video. However, I find the system on the Olympuses to be far from perfect. I realized on the Sonys, you can change drive mode to Bracketing continuous, and its all set. I've tried and tested the method described be Rob here. It works, but its timeconsuming and leaves the user doing unneccessary steps...
Thank you. Olympus has so many options, they didn't prioritize bracketing, so it got buried. I think the new models have easier menus for this with some limitations.
@@RobTrek Thanks for the answer. Just after I made that comment, I realized my em1 actually has this drive mode :) It's even assigned to a button, top left. Always something to learn.

Hi ess70, I answered your question in a video here: ruclips.net/video/7qWhl3GIajE/видео.html
@@RobTrek thank you!
Is there a quicker way to use exposure bracketing than ducking into the menu every time? Is it available in the SCP, or can you assign it to a myset?
Yes. You can assign it to a preset. I have done it for both exposure bracketing and art bracketing!
Rob, does this only work on the Pen F? Doesn’t seem to work on my M-10 II. It appears to be ignoring the “Number of Frames” setting in the Custom Self Timer.
It should work on the E-M10ii. I've used the custom self timer many times on the em10ii.

Unfortunately I believe that is the case. You'll have to bracket and do hdr in post.
Can you combine WB And ISO bracketing with Exposure Bracketing? Thank you for an excellent video
Yes. But that could end up being over 100 pics per bracket! Recommend UHS - II card.
What app do u use for merging, Rob?
I use HDR Efex Pro. It's free and works great! www.google.com/nikcollection/products/hdr-efex-pro/
What are the model figures? You use them to give examples.
I believe in this one it is from the Halo video game.
I would like to know what you do with the bracketed pictures once you are in lightroom and why.
The Pen-F allows for several different types of bracketing. The most common is exposure bracketing. Its typically for blending the pictures together to increase the effective dynamic range. If you have Lightroom CC, check out this video ruclips.net/video/7x_hJF6YJdg/видео.html . Hi Rob: it makes sense to take pictures with Bracketing if I do not process photos with photoshop ?
If you're going to merge them together, then you need software. I sometimes bracket then choose the best one of the series, so no software needed.
Thank you, perfect !

Yes, you just select RAW in the super control panel. Let me know if that worked.
Rob Trek hi, thanks for quick response. When I try that and then turn bracketing on the raw is greyed out and I can only select jpeg on my omd 5 mk2
Rob Trek hi. If I select raw and then switch on bracketing the raw gets greyed out and it reverts to jpeg.
