If this scene doesn’t cause sheer despair then I don’t know what does.
DR3 (or rather, the DR series as a whole) made me realize how fragile human emotions are, leading them to be driven by greed, lust, and revenge. It paints a morbid picture on how no matter how strong a person is, they're still human and thus vulnerable to psychological manipulation. This scene in my opinion perfectly replicates that. One heartbeat the classroom stands united against the Despair Twins. But next heartbeat later, the candle was toppled via revenge. Now half of them are dead and the rest are suffering from despair

I already knew how easily people in real life can be motivated to do horrible things - you see it in the news all the time, from school shootings to fathers/mothers massacring their families, etc. 15 kids killing each other is far from the worst things humans have done to each other.
