This song makes me wonder if Junko knew about DRV3's ending. She made Mukuro sing this song without an apparent reason and during the anime she talked about how she knows everything, how life is predictable. Because of that, she says, she brings chaos and despair to the world. Maybe that's also why she (spoiler to DR1) killed herself in such a theatric way
Honestly, despite how awful this whole scene is in the anime, from a writing standpoint, it was beautifully done. One thing I will always appreciate about the DR3 Anime, specifically Despair Arc, is how they handled the subject of the Ultimate Despair. Up until this point, we had never really seen exactly what the Ultimate Despair did, and the pain and suffering they inflicted. Sure, we saw flashbacks in DR1, DR2, and UDG, but that was about it. All we had to go off of was accounts from other characters and a couple of disturbing CGs. Many people love to romanticize Junko and her ideals of despair. They sometimes forget about the truly awful things she did, like the killing game. The DR3 anime shows you just how awful she and the Ultimate Despair were. This anime is full of shock-moments that are so disturbing that you don't even understand how to process it (Chiaki's death, Chisa's brainwashing, the Student Council Killing Game). The anime tries to get you to understand the true horror of Ultimate Despair; a group with no morals, no values, a group that scoffs at human life. I feel like this fandom tends to forget just how f**ked up the whole Killing Game is. We just see it as, "Oh yeah, kill someone, get away with it, trial time, funny bear kill person funny way". This scene I feel like is a good (and horrifying) reminder of just how disturbing the whole idea of friends and classmates being driven to kill one another is. The really disturbing part of this whole scene is not the fact this group of classmates are being driven to brutally murder each other, but the fact that their deaths are simply stepping stones for Junko. The people participating in the Killing Game meant nothing to her, unlike the one she later orchestrated. The whole purpose of the Student Council Killing Game was to frame Izuru as a murderer and convince the Reserve Course Students that Hope's Peak was using the money from their tuition fees to create "monster" like Kamukura. Their deaths were only pawns in Junko's master plan to brainwash the Reserve Course into Ultimate Despair. It really disturbs me to know that the Student Council was always doomed. They were all meant to die. It didn't matter who killed who. It didn't matter who lived. All of them were dead bodies for Junko's master plan. I think the brutality of the Student Council Killing Game was meant as a wakeup call for the audience. I think the creators wanted us to see just how dark and twisted this series is, just how terrible the Ultimate Despair is, and just how disturbing it is to watch classmates murder each other out of cold blood. This dark and grisly scene paired with this hopeful song is really effective at getting this message across. Please Give Me Wings, or "Tsubasa o Kudasai"( 翼をください), is hopeful song. The chorus of the song roughly translates to, "I want to spread my wings to the sky and fly away, to a free sky, where there is no sadness. I want to flap my wings". The choice of song perfectly ties in with the dark and twisted events you're watching on screen. All of the members of the Killing Game want to live in a safe, peaceful world. All of them want to escape. All of them want to live. All of them want to survive, and be free of the horrible events going on around them. All of them don't want to kill one another, but they've been driven to madness. That's the sad irony. None of them can escape. None of them can "spread wings and fly away". Junko has Mukuro sing this hopeful song to mock them as they brutally massacre each other. In the end, the entirety of the Student Council ends up dead (except Sōshun Murasame, but he's killed in Danganronpa Zero by Yasuke). That's the twisted beauty of this scene. Clap and half to you Spike Chunsoft for thoroughly disturbing me, and making me realize just how f**ked up your series is.
I feel like friends killing each other was more brutal here since there were no trials and there memories hadn't been wiped. Also it wasn't dragged out for a long period of time.
@@jvniper.v Exactly. It was all very quick. All of sudden these kids were thrust into a battle royale with no guarantee that they could live. None of them were supposed to anyway. At least in the main killing game the students knew that they could all just survive together in the school. These poor kids were basically told to just start killing each other.
"Hope is a state of harmony, righteous and bright...and all that other BS. Despair is more fun, and it grows so quickly...like mushrooms over a single night. Despair is messy and confusing and it ain't much of a picky either. It devours love, hate, the whole shebang. Despair takes the plans you've all your faith into and rips them to shreds. You may *think* you're above petty human desires, but you need Despair...when it's calling the shots, all bets are off. You don't wanna be bored out of your skull for the rest of forever, do ya?"
This song ALWAYS puts me on the edge of the seat... It's like you've got something too hold on that you can't let go of when you listen to this song... And it's makes me so scared... And idk why. :(
Anytime I hear this song, no matter the version, I get PTSD, I can still see and hear their pain. A song once about love and freedom is now a song of pain and despair for me
You can use this song both to easily strengthen a killing game and gave it a classy touch, your graduation ceremony, or the start of the apocalypse, it's that varied of uses
Just hearing this makes me recall the scene it was playing. Junk-chan you are a genius, you and your ideas about such a beautiful song playing while people lose all hope!
love megumi's voice in this as well as this song choice. the soft soothing music being sung, contrasting to the events of whats happening as mukuro sings in the anime. i think some meaning could even be found in the song lyric (though im not very smart lmfao.) i feel as the lyrics to please give me wings could reflect Mukuro's character though it might just be me looking into it too hard. "I want to spread my wings to the sky and fly away" i feel this might be reflecting with what Mukuro said in her free time events as Munko in trigger happy havoc. in her last free time event, she expresses hesitancy about continuing 'her dream'. "Ever since I was a kid, I've chased after my dream without getting sidetracked. But looking back, I'm kinda worried. I've started looking around for a new dream, a new motivation." While she shrugs this off as referring to modeling, it's been heavily implied that she was possibly talking about her relationship with Junko. She's always followed by Junko without question, but during the killing school game she questions Junko. This is expanded upon in IF. Mukuro convinced herself that Junko's attempt at killing her was just to bring her dear sister the most amount of despair. Still, after Junko tried to kill Mukuro she wanted and forced herself to believe that Junko still cared.
If I got a nickel every time this song played during huge, tragic events involving the deaths of many people, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I know that DR3 has some mistakes, but when it does something good, it does it REALLY good.
Wow you really enjoyed waritting about this huh? I honestly agree with you
I feel like friends killing each other was more brutal here since there were no trials and there memories hadn't been wiped. Also it wasn't dragged out for a long period of time.
@@jvniper.v True
@@jvniper.v Exactly. It was all very quick. All of sudden these kids were thrust into a battle royale with no guarantee that they could live. None of them were supposed to anyway. At least in the main killing game the students knew that they could all just survive together in the school. These poor kids were basically told to just start killing each other.
the murder anthem
One of the best moments in Danganronpa ever. Despite DR3 being quite mediocre, it was so despair-inducing when I first watched it.
yea the anime was a huge disappointment, could have executed it way better, but i still appreciated it as a fan
Thank god im not aggreeing with you guys. I fucking loved every minute of every episode.
unlike certain animes (ft, one piece, sao. etc) danganronpa's plot is pretty unpredictable unless you've played the games
Animated Music Videos Same!
Chiake... ;-;
It wasn't by any means perfect. A lot of the reasoning was stupid af but yeah I agree it was still entertaining.
ah yes, such a beautiful song... i *hope* nothing bad happens
*Starts the 3rd Impact*
Wait wrong show
*3rd impact and children murdering noises*
Watch the EVANGELION version, it isn’t even like this, it’s stripped to it’s bare bones. Only it’s childlike song is there.
Anytime I hear this song, no matter the version, I get PTSD, I can still see and hear their pain.
A song once about love and freedom is now a song of pain and despair for me
I really, really want to like this song, but... Traumatic flashbacks are kinda preventing that.
Mukuro: I sang for Junko…*blushes*
Couple: *Wants to take suicide, to transform their death into somehing beautiful*
Shovel Guy: "I'm going to destroy their whole careers"
They have canon names lol. The girl from the couple is Tsubasa Kamii, the boy is Taro Kurosaki, and the Leon knockoff is Sosuke Ichino.

Whether it's Danganronpa or Evangelion, this song basically means "oops people are dying"
“my bad.”
Sorry my son just wanted to be with his wifu
"This is fine" *Blood-curdling screams in the background continue*
Mukuro is such a good singer!
We already knew she could fight like an avenging angel, we had no idea she could sing like a herald too.
I can still hear people killing each other...
queen of singing
Bro why do I like it better with the chaos in the background and junkos monologue.
I feel you (Not sure on this song though)

Not only I think so? This despair... seems too adorable. XD

Good point, it could be a lie set up by kokichi

True despair
Why no one talks about the fact that mukuro sings it? 😭✨✨
finally found this song! before I had to put up with constant screaming and death.... but still... I can hear the death and despair in the background
You can use this song both to easily strengthen a killing game and gave it a classy touch, your graduation ceremony, or the start of the apocalypse, it's that varied of uses
Finally! I've been waiting for this track! :D
*"¡I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"*
-Pikachu Girl
It's so perfect Junko just pulls this out and makes Mukuro sing on the spot, during the moment that's been hyped for 3 games and 2 anime
Everyone’s talking about Mukuro’s singing, whoever’s playing the guitar is killing it, just shredding
I'd like to think it was Ibuki. With me on piano, of course.

Just hearing this makes me recall the scene it was playing. Junk-chan you are a genius, you and your ideas about such a beautiful song playing while people lose all hope!
I honestly thought Monokuma was singing
also i love singing along with this
I can still hear the screams...*war flashbacks while looking at the horizon*
Fun fact: There are 2 or more fandoms in total in which this song gives flashbacks.
2. Or. More.
love megumi's voice in this as well as this song choice.
the soft soothing music being sung, contrasting to the events of whats happening as mukuro sings in the anime. i think some meaning could even be found in the song lyric (though im not very smart lmfao.)
i feel as the lyrics to please give me wings could reflect Mukuro's character though it might just be me looking into it too hard.
I've started looking around for a new dream, a new motivation."
While she shrugs this off as referring to modeling, it's been heavily implied that she was possibly talking about her relationship with Junko.
Best part of DR3.
* I can picture everything that happened in the episode, the murder, carnage, the despair in induced * still love the song
I love this! Mainly because Mukuro sings it. :D
Same
If I got a nickel every time this song played during huge, tragic events involving the deaths of many people, I’d have two nickels.
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Wait- I just realized this was uploaded on Junko and Mukuro's birthday.
Happy Birthday to them.

Can we take a moment to realize how beautiful her voice actually is

Whenever I hear this song, I always thought of death, destruction and despair
K-on and Nichijou fans: Wow! What a lovely, uplifting and adorable song!
Danganronpa and Evangelion fans having a breakdown in the corner:
Even after all this time, I’ll never understand how something that sounds so beautiful can have such a terrifying context bruh. Love it though. Love Mukuro too
I can't get over it... I CAN STILL HEAR THE SCREAMS, THE SADNESS, THE DESPAIR THAT THEY FELT!!!
This version of the song seems to be the most emotional one. I’m not just saying this since it comes from an anime based on murder, but just...listen to it. The tone, the tune, the choice of instruments...it almost makes you imagine that your in the situation of the anime...
"You want together..? I'LL GIVE YOU TOGETHER!!"
i cant unhear this. everytime i listen to this, i get flashbacks on dr3 (anime).

What a nice song. I bet this sounds while the characters are having a great time of friendship and creating loving memories.
I was in tears in that scene in the anime only because of this song and I remembered Evangelion..
I usually don't cry when people get murdered/executed in Danganronpa, but this hit different. Thanks Mukuro...
Imagine being called to the school at night time along side with your classmates, and you are told to kill eachother or else your secret will be exposed to the whole country...
At a sleepover, my friend was playing this song while I was playing botw. Then she showed me the scene. Now whenever I'm in Hateno village I all I can think about are the screams. Thanks Addi
