Dude ive lived in Seattle for over 10 years and ive walked up and down these streets so many times and to see it in a post apocalyptic setting just blew my mind last night i literally had to get off the game and think about this real hard.
kinda wish they added Bellevue, UW and allowed to get closer to space needle but holy shit, that little part of downtown was hella large location, can’t imagine how huge others would be

I've walked many of those same streets before. Bring a gun or at least a rusty pipe with you. Many of the tweaked out people there can seem like the infected characters in the game

I used to live in Seattle back when I was in college and some of the best memories of my life I lived them there. Playing TLOU II hits home way harder for me.

Boston is currently undertaking adaptive measures to rising sea levels; many Australian coastlines apply various methods of erosion control to keep coastal infrastructures and properties intact; I mean, shit, even the weeds that grow in your backyard shows you exactly how fast and aggressively nature works.
Man, I feel bad for Naughty Dog these days. It’s clear they spent the last 6-7 years putting their hearts and souls into this game only for so many people to shit in it because they didn’t like the story. I personally found the gameplay experience much more crisp in this one compared to the first and loved playing it.
The designers really did an amazing job recreating Seattle in an apocalyptic setting. I appreciate that they went out of their way to make it the way it really looks instead of making a landscape that fit the characteristics of Seattle and sticking a space needle in it.
I can't imagine how much fkn work went into creating this game from scratch idk how long it took but damn congratulations on almost masterpiece almost cause we who played know why but everything else masterpiece, last of part 3, uncharted 5 on ps5 will blow us away into a million pieces like a head vs shotgun shell 😂

It's cool how the developers actually make the city eaten by nature. The vegetation in every single routes, bridge, streets, roads and skyscrapers are so impressive. Even the lighting and ray tracing are on point. This game is just too good man, and the gameplay is highly detail also. What more could you possibly want in a game? It's all in here.
last time i played a game so detailed and so meticulously crafted is 2018's red dead redemption 2. both games are masterpieces. no other comes close, so far at least.

They did a pretty good job except for when I came out at the "base" of the Sunken Ship Garage and found the Smith Tower on the wrong side and far away. Also, anyone figured out how Belltown became an island? It was weird to see the Seattle Center and other areas around the Needle become straight up forest with no ruins. Ah well, they did a commendable job and I enjoyed running through a post-apocalyptic Seattle to the point of forgiveness on these issues.
Yeah this story does happen in 2037, but it does makes sense abt what the op said. The reality pics are recent, have many diff where there are some new buildings built after 2013. In the game, after 2013, after outbreak there wouldn't be any new dev, hence why there's diff between the reality pics and the game pics.

As someone who was born and raised in Seattle and still lives there today, seeing naughty dog get a majority of the details of the city down to the point where I can recognize where Ellie and Dina are is fucking amazing. And I’ve seen video games like “Infamous: Second Son” where the only aspect of Seattle that’s recognizable was the space needle lol

Locations were super accurate and it was awesome to see the surroundings in a post apocalyptic perspective. MY only thing was the sun was shining in the wrong direction half the time where East was West and West was East in comparison to real life. lol Same with Santa Barbara. It was like the ocean was to the East but it was still freakin awesome!!!!

I work in game industry, and when developer replicate map in real life they never use 1:1 scale because it's too big, too far for player to walk. They also try to avoid making 100% accurate with things in real life because it will cause them trouble in the future. You can see the difference by counting the total of windows, compare the colours, door types, etc.
@Victor There is no exact rule for the scale. Each studio has their own preferences, depends on what kind of game they want to make. As long as it works for the gameplay and the visual looks like the reference/concept they are trying to achieve and also believable, then it's good enough. Those units are used when creating assets to measure the size of it based on real reference/concept.
Do they have to alter the looks a little bit for copyright or something? I feel like video games always do that with buildings, they have the look but some of the scale and placement is off. Regardless looks great

I work in game industry, and when developer replicate map in real life they never use 1:1 scale because it's too big, too far for player to walk.
They also try to avoid making 100% accurate with things in real life because it will cause them trouble in the future. You can see the difference by counting the total of windows, compare the colours, door types, etc.

There is no exact rule for the scale.
Each studio has their own preferences, depends on what kind of game they want to make.
As long as it works for the gameplay and the visual looks like the reference/concept they are trying to achieve and also believable, then it's good enough.
Those units are used when creating assets to measure the size of it based on real reference/concept.

Do they have to alter the looks a little bit for copyright or something? I feel like video games always do that with buildings, they have the look but some of the scale and placement is off. Regardless looks great
